Honda confirm Ross Brawn appointment

QUOTE
As expected, Honda today confirmed the signing of Ross Brawn who takes on the role of Team Principal with the British-based team.

Brawn will take full responsibility for designing, manufacturing, engineering and racing Honda’s Formula One car and will work alongside Nick Fry who continues as Chief Executive of the team.

Brawn spent ten years with the Ferrari team where, in the position of Technical Director, he helped them regain glory in the form of six consecutive constructors’ championship titles from 1999.

Prior to joining Ferrari, Brawn held the position of Technical Director with the Benetton F1 team, helping them win back-to-back World Drivers’ Championships in 1994 and 1995 with Michael Schumacher and take the Constructors’ Championship in 1995.

In the course of his 30-year career in motorsport he has worked with a number of Formula One teams and in sports car racing. Brawn will start work with the Honda Racing F1 Team on 26 November 2007.

Nick Fry

“One of my main tasks over the past six months has been to attract new talent to the Honda Racing F1 Team and we have made a number of key appointments in the areas of aerodynamics, design, engineering, marketing and on the racing team. Today’s announcement that Ross Brawn is to join our team is a very satisfying conclusion to the process of refreshing and revitalising a strong and determined team. Ross obviously needs no introduction. His experience of winning world championships in Formula One will be crucial as we seek to put Honda back into championship contention and I am delighted that we will be working together to achieve that.”

Ross Brawn

“I am very excited to be joining the Honda Racing F1 Team.
Honda has a proud heritage in
Formula One and the opportunity to help the team to realise its potential represents a fantastic new challenge for me in the sport. The team has already done a great job of giving due consideration to its future and has spent a good deal of time putting in place both people and first class engineering resources to achieve its ambitions. I look forward to working alongside what I know to be some very talented people and helping Honda to rediscover its winning ways.”

Hiroshi Oshima, Operating Officer

“I am pleased with the structure we have put in place for the future success of our Formula One team. A great deal of consideration has been given to the areas in which we need to develop and I am encouraged that we have a strong basis for the future. The appointment of Ross Brawn will bring World Championship winning experience and technical vision to our team and I expect Ross and Nick Fry, who will now be able to concentrate fully on running the commercial and business aspects of our company, to work closely together to bring success to Honda in Formula One. Shuhei Nakamoto will now take up the role of Deputy MD (Technical) in which he will work for Ross whilst ensuring that the F1 team gains maximum benefit from our Honda R&D operation in Tochigi. We look forward to a successful season ahead.”

I don't think Honda gonna effect much...well maybe towards slower teams.
Unless Honda got fast cars...then Brawn joining them not gonna threat Ferrari, McLaren, BMW or Renault tongue.gif

Well, RB already said that he wont be back in Ferrari unless he got Todt's position.
Anyway, somebody else offer him that position and i am not surprised that he accept the offer.
Honda wont be closing the gap so soon even with Brawn anyway whistling.gif cool2.gif

I doubt it too....at least technically. I can't see Honda as one of the top player in just few months time. Look at Toyota.....improving but yet still competing for the best of the rest title.

But with RB in F1 now.....prepare for some whacky strategy which could spring few surprises.

Well, this is personally a good article on how RB can overturn Honda's crisis :

http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3261_2880042,00.html

Brawn Takes Control Over Button's Destiny

Whatever being said, Ross Brawn is indeed a very talented and intelligent person. Him being at Honda is definitely going to bring something, but it might not be too soon.

As said in the article, it took him (and the whole team) 3 years to bring Ferrari and MS to victory and create history at that point. So, i guess, we just need to wait and see how things goes.

I am more interested to see how things changes in Ferrari management and where JT is going though..

Yes, you are correct there. However, they were good the year before. So, i guess i am still wondering how well/poor would they be next year. After all, RB would not have any power / influence on how they will develop next year's car (2008) - he came a lil too late as 2008 car should be rolling out soon enough..Therefore, there is not too much hope Honda next year unless they develop a reliable, competitive car. In this case, RB's tactics would be useful.

However, give them a few years, and i do have a slight feeling they might come back strong with RB's intelligence and great tactics.

Anyhow, RB did help Ferrari with 5 titles in a row last time. rclxms.gif

I bet Ron Dennis must be sulking at one corner now.
Trying to turn table via a court ruling, he must be out of his mind. And if the judgment really did went against us, you will see how much the F1 rating will drop right away. Smart move or should i say its already determined long ago cool2.gif

Anyway, Congratulations to Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen for winning both the WCC and the WDC!
A pretty dramatic season last season was. And in the end, Kimi came out of it alive.
