My car porch walls have a lot of crack lines. I am looking for contractor to repair. Not keen on tiling up the wall cause too expensive nor do i plan to paint it. I thought of just doing smooth cement finish
Any advise what i should tell the contractor to ensure that the wall will not have crack lines and can last? does it need waterproofing or sealant paint?

Hi! It is best to remove all paint then sealed up the crack line with cement (special for crack repair).
Then apply good sealant paint or waterproof paint which is having high elongation.
Personally, I recommend Dong Fang Yu Hong - Smar Coating.

Woah...
This look like serious...
Was thinking just small hairline crack... Here & there...

This one...
I think huh..
Needed to take out whole cement layer... Until can see bricks....
And replaster cement layer back...
Later after like 1 week...
Weatherproof paint....

Cement based things like mortar/concrete is not an instant superglue.
Its a whole chemical process that need to slowly cure to release water vapour and other gases, in order to achieve maximum strength.

This is why we can't build whole apartment in 2 months (more like it needs 3-4 years) if follow the standard 28 days concrete curing process. It need to harden before you build next floor up.
China did it in 2 months (59 storey) because they pre-cast the thing somewhere else and just assemble lego blocks like our LRT track sections.

If you suffocate it by painting it over too quickly, before it cures completely, the cement is still wet inside and prone to failure.
For me I am OCD on this - after redoing I will let it cure to maximum strength at 28 days if possible, before painting over.

What I know...
Existing wall...

The contractor would drill small hole the whole wall...
If damage... Then cement plastering.... Normally few days keep dry...
Then tile up...

Since yours is outdoor...
Please pick heavy duty type... And not so big...
Later the tile might dropped off from the wall 😁 to be on safe side... 1x1 better... Some use 2x1 also....
Price piece around rm3 to 9....
