I am currently away from my home & tv. And only have my laptop & a 1440p Monitor.

I am thinking if there is anyway to stream Netflix/Disney + at 1440p onto this monitor? I seen people mention is not possible through browser... but what if I get an apple tv or chromecast to plug into my monitor? Or both streaming services simply don't support 1440p, and can only go 1080p or 4k directly?

Original video resolution is either 1080p or 4K, there is no video resolution made in 1440p. But you can still stream 1080p or 4K content to a 1440p monitor. The browser will just still scale up or scale down the video only. This is no different from making the browser window smaller and you can still watch video having resolution larger than the window.

Disney+ Hotstar offers full HD (1080p) resolution for most of their content. However, they do offer a selection of Ultra HD 4K movies in Malaysia if you watch it on the big screen with the Android TV & Apple TV Disney+ Hotstar app.

No such thing as 1440p. its either 1080p or 4k (but very small selection only). BUT u need to use android tv or apple TV to view that 4k content. cheapest & reliable option is using mi TV stick.

so in ur case, laptop + 1440p monitor = 1080p for All contents.

But will the 4K content actually downscale to 1440p? Or more likely they will b 1080p upscale to 1440p?

That means I would never able to enjoy 4K content (downscale 2k) using the 2k monitor ? I understand there is no 1440p content , but I’m wondering if a 4K content will automatically downscale to 1440p for better native resolution. Watching 1080p on 2k monitor looks horrible 😵

Both Android(Google)/Apple TV do not support 1440p output so the device will output 1080p and this will make all the apps on the device to only output 1080p video.

On Shield TV there is option to force unsupported resolution including 1440p but i'm not sure how those streaming apps will react to that output and it does have some 'side effect' on interface.
Not sure about Disney+ but Netflix might output 1440p but with odd aspect ratio and black bars. Also, the monitor must be HDCP 2.2 compliant.

afaik, you will get 1440p, but the ratio will be funny. If you can live with the funny ratio, then you should be fine.

It depends on the source of the movie. If the movie has 4K resolution, then, the output will be 4k, and your tv/player or graphic card if it is in pc will downscale to match the screen. If the movie in in 1080p only, then, tv/pc/player will upscale it to match the screen size.

Sometimes, the movie has 4K resolution, but netflix reduce it to 1080p only because it is viewed on non netflix certified device. So, in this case, the movie will be upscaled to match 1440p screen by the tv/pc/player..
