US Wii is supposedly more stable that Japan & Europe/Australia (PAL) Wii.

the biggest disadvantage of the Japan Wii is that the menu is all in Japanese & you can't change the language like you can for the DS.

if new wii cant be mod, then price of modded wii will goreng
and will take some time before it can be modded again

Y'know, if you really want to know if it's modded or not, just ask the seller. Seller says can play ahem game, then it's modded.

Cannot play = original.

I had been looking around to get one just now. Either, they are out of stock and don't dare to get the new batch as they can't be modded. Or, if they have old stock, US ver cost RM 1700 and Jap ver cost 1400. Damn I hate thos business man. I want to get a unmodded one but they don't carry.

frankly, i prefer the gameplay of wii more than ps3..
but ps3 has killer graphics .. ahh so difficult to decide ~ haha get both like what i did.

no idea what mod chip...all i can say it works with all the 10 games i bought...everything seem to function pretty good....able to connect to the internet....

sadly I bought earlier last month for RM1650 (2 wiimotes, 2 nunchuck 2 ori games, 15 games copy, adapter converter)...

i dun know the current market price.but he was offering me ps3 20GB at about 900+. cant remember the exact price or whether its mod or not. my hand also itchy on ps3 cause with that price...i would like to get and use it only as a blu ray player...still worth it man...

was told the additional wiimote cost about 150 and the power converter rm28....i think if you add one more nunchunk and 1 more original games...the price almost come out to be 1650....so dun be sad....just enjoy loh..

Asked this on the official thread but no one respond, so I try here, RM999 is it ok for this price? Only the console, 1 pair of controllers, no games or any extras.

But one thing I forgot to ask if it was AUS or JP version (I know its too cheap to be US version), it seems a bit cheaper compared to other prices I see here, which usually have more things included or is US version.

Is AUS version ok or not, will it cause problems, power supply or any problem?

Hey all... i'm planning to get a Wii but can someone please let me know the differences between a Japanese console and the US one? I mostly will be getting a modded one, though.

999 should be the japan set. Aus is the PAL set. Try to get NTSC if possible. And this is not the main thread.

biggest difference would be all the manual in Japanese and English and u cant change it. The other difference is certain japanese game dont work on US. A good example would be naruto

games language is depending on games. If japanese games surely will be in japanese. Only a few games can change language but never I seen one from Japanese to English.

I just survey from a shop at Holiday Plaza JB, RM 999 for modded JPN Wii set and RM 1250 for modded US Version + Wii Sports. And also nunchaku + remote = RM 160.

how long is the warranty... me just hope to get a good deal around 1250 for US wii.. but in kl it seems quite difficult to get.... all i see is 1690++ somemore no stock, all i see is the jap version...

I didn't asked about the warranty period and other stuffs included with it such as the adapter n the ahem games because my friend only asked me to survey for the price. At that shop, I could see 2-3 US units available on the rack. Maybe the next time I go there, I'll be asking the seller in detail.

anyway..the warranty given to me was 1 year with one to one swap within one week of purchase

no doubt the price has been increased due to the latest D2B chip , 3 pins has been cut-off from the IC ~ the modification of the wii
looks very difficult now.

some even so desperate till drill the D2B IC .. to join back the legs. whatever it is, pls support originals unless you want to backup yr own games

true, i believe the one i bought is from the old patch. the person did told me that the newer patch cannot or impossible to mod. anyway, my firmware version is 3.0 and so far i dun see any problem in playing all the games i bought.

probably a matter of time before it can be modded.

I went to the same shop last 3 weeks. He said RM 1280(US Version) and negotiable. 1 Wii remote + 1 knuckle + 10 *ahem* games + 1 ori wii sports + other basic stuff like adapters etc. He's a helpful & honest guy.He helped me to search info to set up Wii LAN party.

As far as i survey, that's the cheapest Wii price I can get from a shop.

One of the shopkeeper told me, for English Wii- there are 2 japanese game which unable to load ie Naruto and Shin Chan
And as for Japanese Wii, there are around 10 English titles unplayable.

Supposely getting 4 Wii consoles and start up a LAN party this week. I guess it is better to wait for a stable version once they able to mod the chip.

got mine yesterday from cineleisure us wii unmod set + 2 ori games (wario & wii sports) + 1 extra wiimote + 1 x 110v-240v ac adapter at RM1400 by card. 3 mths shop warranty. honest & nice guy at reasonable price. cheers!

Malaysia Wii is NTSC format and Australia is PAL format. Means you Hardly to find a game in australia in NTSC format. Same in Malaysia, i am talking about original game. Not those "Duuuuu" game !

And I KNOW THE Wii BIGGEST different btw Australia and Malaysia for this month is what.
IS YOU very very very hard to find a Wii console in Australia now. IF you are in Australia now, i think you should knew that, Nintendo Wii and Ipod are out of stock on most of the store and hypermarkets. EB-Games, Kmart, BigW, Target, Game, JB Hi-Fi, DickSmith, all OUT of stock in perth.!

There are no cheap wiis now. RM1300+ for Jap Wii and RM1700 for US Wii. cause no clone d2ckey yet.

Yeah. which is why the high price compare to previous chipsets. i got my wii for below 1k in july which is the d2b chipset using cloned wiikey.

To answer your firmware question, u have to update your console using a game of the same region as your wii. the wii will ask you to update when u enter the disc channel with the game. haven't tried online updates. people told me that updates using online can cause bricks because apparently the wii doesn't access the update website of the same region as the wii itself. so to be safe, update using a game of the same region to the highest possible firmware (currently 3.1) before playing another region's game.

however, some games contain patches that are not firmware updates that can semi-brick the console such as link's crossbow training and metroid prime 3. the solution is that just update your wii with the patch then only update the firmware. of course, your current firmware have to be lower than the one you are updating to. SMG contains the 3.0J update and Wii Fit contains the 3.1J update for those who are wondering.

d2c modchip is out liow. the modification doesnt come cheap ~ i seen the modification, you rather need professional who does soldering work. alot of wires for the IC .. dunno the reliability will be affected anot..

Almost impossible to find PAL games here. Wii consoles that are officially available in malaysia and singapore are of NTSC variety. U/C to be exact. and because of region lock, the games sold are from the same region consequently.

I got the Wii sports bundle(US version, normal inside with 1x ori game, stand, wii mote,etc), + 1x wii remote,2x wii mote jacket,1x nunchuk, 1x ac adapter

The wii mote n nunchuk set cost around RM 250. The bundle is RM 1750..
Updating software all that will not cost me anymore.

I know is kinda expensive but I stay around subang. Im too lazy to go to KL buy.. Sick of KL jam, expensive parking and petrol money. I have experience buying stuff from KL n cause me lots of trouble. Buying nearby my house really convenient to me if the console has any problem or need to update software.
One example is handphone from x-pax shop. Got problems with the h/p n I go to that shop back n fort from subang. Really make me exausted. So I tell myself from now on nvr buy stuff too far away from my home. In case u really need to claim warranty, that really trouble u a lot.

The Japan set is only around RM1350..no include ori in the bundle compare to US's 1

Hi guys I am from PJ,SS2. I have been to this shop with this not honest owner selling jap set modded wii rm1500 AND for 1 extra wiimote set which cost RM300 and she only will give 5 free game. All together wii+extra wii console set + 5 games for RM1800.Isn't unreasonable.

US console is more expensive because it comes with wii sport.
All consoles are region locked,meaning if you're using a ntsc us wii,you can only play ntsc us games,you can't play ntsc jp or pal games.Remember if you are using wiikey or any mod chips in your wii,you have to be aware when playing Super Mario Galaxies,because when wii read it,it will ask you to update before commence,and this updater is very tricky,it will brick your wii if you are playing PAL SMG using NTSC wii or vice versa.Once your wii is bricked,it is forever useless(no solution yet).

When buying modded wii,there are many things to be considered first.
For example,wiikey team is gone and not releasing update since 1.9g,their website has been down for almost 3 weeks,so it is pathetic.Nobody knows if nintendo will put the same protection in future wii games.So i would recommed you not to get wii modded with wiikey.

However,the new wii has been released and it is equipped with d2c chip.
Wii cannot be installed in d2c chip and people are basically using d2ckey to modify it.
In my point of view,d2ckey works fine but there is a very dangerous problem-the website has no forum and no patches are released yet.People say that d2ckey isn't updatable but if you want to update,it requires you to dissect the wii and do something on the d2ckey,so you would have to send it to programmers.Although d2ckey team claim that d2ckey is updatable,there is no solid evidence to prove their statement yet.

Ps:d2ckey has 32 wires and it is very delicate because if the soldering is not done well/ wires are not connected properly or loose,the d2ckey won't work.You won't be able to read backups and some people say they aren't able to read originals too.So you should send to a professional to do the soldering.

Then,argon from infectus team is released.It comes with all features that all d2ckey offers but they are more advanced as there are 13 wires only and it is UPDATABLE using infectus2 (argon---cable---infectus2---usb---pc).This jtag programmer will enable you to update the firmware and the entire logical work in the argon,so if nintendo intends to do something detrimental to modchips,they will be able to update the argon to a so-called brand new modchips.For more details,google infectus.And now,it has been launched,people got the argon,installed and found lots of freezing problem in many games,and it is not region-free(the moderator said it is not implemented yet).Maybe the first batch of argon have bad firmware,and now the problems in argon seem would be solved by the patch which will be released next week.What is bad and atrocious about argon is that.........IT DOES NOT fully WORK AS ADVERTISED.

Argon is the latest mod chip,and probably the most advanced.
For more information,google infectus argon.

wiikey is for old wii.New wiis come with d2c chip.So d2ckey or argon chip can be used only.
Many retailers here sell wii modded with d2ckey.D2ckey works perfectly well at the moment,so it is advisable.However,people find that d2ckey cannt be updated like wiikey by using dvd,i think it can be updated through jtag programmer.So far there are not patches released by d2ckey team yet,probably because it works flawlessly.

All modchips are made to play backups and enable region free,meaing you can play imported games(pal game on ntsc wii).For super mario galaxies,when the modded wii read it,you will have to run an update(3.0 v wii)in order to get the game run,so users that are unaware of bricking and because they play jp version super mario galaxies on us wii(or any other version on different region console),and the us wii is updated with jp wii patch,so their wii are bricked.

So it is better to play same region game,in case to prevent tragic
