Someone recommend me the best air cpu coolers? was told air coolers are more reliable ? Currently using Corsair H100i GTX in Corsair 540 case ASUS MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA motherboard + i7 6700k CPU So far after years of usage. no problems with temperatures but Quite annoying clliccccccky sound from radiator It only happens under load or high usage I dont know much about AIOs after 2016 but i replaced once and thinking to replace again. Maybe its better now ? idk This post has been edited by Eternalgl0ry: Sep 15 2021, 08:54 PM

It;s the effective airflow that is important, not which cooler.

Temperature does not seem to have any problems. Looks identical from the day i purchase. sits around average 40c - 65c in random usage
Goes as high around 80++ only while playing high demanding games or video converting that are power hungry
CPU only slightly OCed by builder. Never really touch it since after setup
but the AIO sounds very annoying. I hear people say may be pump issue or something that often happens to AIO
FANS on the AIO are corsair SP120
So i plan to go for more reliability and does not lack performance
budget... hmm, Below 600?
Dont really want spend a thousand cpu cooler
I heard noctua D15 also have d15s version. Which one better? i wonder can it fit in my corsair 540 case
ASUS MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA motherboard RAM are Gskill tridentz 3200mhz
Did not occupy the first slot of my case. Only second/third slot occupied by evga gtx980ti classified gpu

If u prefer to stick with D15 then u have ram clearance issue for gskill tridentz... u might need to shift the the fan toward panel abit and this might lead to case clearance.. i would suggest you just to get scythe fuma 2 with half the price and no ram clearance issue.. you can check this review.. just nice their testbench is using the same processor as yours.. fuma 2

I purchased ID Cooling SE-207-XT BLACK for about 190, for my 10700F, with frequency boost to 100W, to sustain 4.6 Ghz all core frequency, max temp was 70 to 71C.
If I recall correctly, my previous 212 surpassed 80C.

Which thermal paste do you guys recommend
I was hoping modern cpu coolers already pre-applied instead manual self paste because the outcome may differ

i've been using artic silver AS5 for years, still performs great There are better ones out there based on reviews and performance benchmarks, heck even china cheap ones that rival this AS5 haven't been doing OC for so long already but for normal use i guess AS5 is good enough. I don't trust those stock that comes with coolers but I'm not sure if the top lines Coolers already comes with really good paste I know Cooler masters one don't, they just provide essentials (okok only) i think QUOTE(Eternalgl0ry @ Oct 21 2021, 07:03 PM) Which thermal paste do you guys recommend I was hoping modern cpu coolers already pre-applied instead manual self paste because the outcome may differ

Noctua D15s is the best on market. You can dismantle the radiator remove the fan from it and replace it with the new fan. The annoying sound should be causing by the fan. I help my friend replace his AIO water-cooler coz he not confident to change it by his own. Normally on my AIO water-cooler it reach max 82 °C then it drop down to 69~74 °C on video converting. On gaming, max 78 °C and average around 58~64 °C. This is recently temperature monitoring 2 weeks ago before I clean my top filter on my casing. Plan to dismantle my radiator and remove the fan for clean in December. Yearly overhaul maintenance. Penang air quality is very bad. Unless my room is well seal off prevent dusk coming in my room. Noctua D15 is good, but it is overpriced. You can get similar performance for around 200-300 ringgit.
Lower 200 range, got Scythe Fuma II. Gamer Nexus got review, not bad but not as good as D15. Has 6x6mm heatpipes.
At around 280 got Thermalright Frost Commander 140. This one less common, not as much reviews out there. However, it got 5x8mm heatpipes, so more cooling than the Fuma II.
Assuming the fins and fans are all the same, weight is a good enough measure of how heat a cooler can dissipate. First 2 examples weigh around 1kg, while D15 is 1.2kg. I think they most likely weigh slightly more, since the number I found for both of them is exactly 1000g, which is definitely estimated.
However, all this is good and all, best cooler choice depend on what CPU you have. If you cooling something with smaller die size (5600x, 12600k, etc), higher heat density, lower actual heat load, the limiting factor for cooling is not how much heat the cooler can dissipate, but how fast the heat can transfer from the CPU to the cooler.
Thermalright True Spirit 140 Direct is suitable for overclocking those less high end chips. This one around 190, single tower, much smaller than the other ones so in total it cannot dissipate as much heat. However, in the base, the heatpipes directly contact the CPU, not like other coolers that put the heatpipes in a piece of metal then the metal contact the CPU. This make the heat transfer from CPU to cooler faster, since less stuff in the way. Because this one only weigh 650g, a lot smaller than the other ones, cannot dissipate as much total heat as the others.
Sadly I don't think there is a direct heatpipe cooler that is large, so no best of both worlds.
However, keep in mind that those larger coolers I mentioned, most likely can handle those smaller CPUs quite well. I got overclocked 5600x, using Scythe Fuma II, max 70c, cinebench r23 11000.
