Lol, true that we may not be professionals, but is it possible to find ppl from the first 2 in Malaysia that specializes in Sugar Gliders?
Actually, I'm curious to know. What kind of things do we get angry about and show off? If we ever do need presenters, Crazymouse and I were both trained to be presenters in the Zoo, but I think for speech she's probably better. She is more friendly in terms of verbal interaction and uses friendlier words. In my opinion, we don't really need to hire pros, especially when we have no financial backing. If we do, maybe we could invite a person who knows tons more about gliders from US or something. Right now, we need a dedicated group of people with social skills to help educate ppl and create awareness of the basics of Suggie ownership. Any volunteers? Clear bright eyes, clean pink nose, well-maintained fur, rounded body, fluffy tail that's a little like a bottle brush, alert and active.
Look at the environment it's kept in, the food it's fed and what handling routine they get from their owners. |

You will need a medium cage which is 4 to 5 times the size of a hamster cage. Yes, gliders each have their own personality. Some are more quiet, some more crabby, some jumpy etc. Have to see if the glider is for you or not. If you're a timid person, a crabby and bitey joey is not the best choice.
Sometimes it's normal for a joey to be crabby and a little bitey at the beginning because they are scared. Find out the conditions the gliders are kept in at the seller's and you can start judging from there. About the poo recycling, yes, it does happen in many species of animals. Hamsters and rabbits you can commonly see this behaviour. In gliders not so pronounced but it does happen. Even in elephants! But if the glider is eating poo excessively, then there may be something wrong. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 5 2008, 03:36 PM |

Ah? 3 weeks old? That very young leh.
Now what you must do is, go and find PETS OWN LACTOSE FREE MILK and buy some yogurt or the yogurt drink yakult if you can find it. Pet Shack in Sunway sells the PETS OWN milk. Buy 2 free 1. PETS OWN milk can only last a few days in the fridge, but you can try freezing it by putting it in ice cube trays and when you want to use cut half of one cube and warm it up. Don't use microwave, just put it in a bowl and put that bowl in another bowl with hot water. It should melt in a few minutes. Feed one portion every few hours. Do not leave the milk overnight in the cage. Feed mainly the milk and a drop of yogurt every other day. Try giving it some different types of fruits like mango, jambu air, guava, apple, pear and a little bit of papaya to see if it eats or not. If it eats then it's a good sign, but still feed milk as the main diet. Watch out for diarrhoea, if you see it having diarrhoea for more than a day, stop the yogurt and feed the milk and fruits as the main. The yogurt introduce later when it's older. Some organic chicken baby food would be good too but introduce it when the joey is stable only. Gliders are almost LACTOSE INTOLERANT, so please do not go buy other brands or cheaper brands to substitute. Do not buy any with soy or corn products either. -------------------------------------------------------------- Got a another sad case today. A friend of mine, he's around his 30s now, has a glider that has been self-mutilating. He has kept it for about 5 months and it has severed it's own tail in half, half naked from pulling it's own fur off, chewed on it's paws until swollen and chewed off half of both patagiums. He also told me his friend has a glider that actually holds the bars of the cage and slams it's face into the bars until it draws blood. He didn't seem to realize how serious it was already. I tried advising him and offered a home for it, but he seemed more keen on giving his friend(Dunno which friend). He said this friend had been keeping gliders for awhile and should know how to care for it(I disagree!). This was a result of his girlfriend impulse buying because she thought they were cute and his friend telling him gliders are easy to care for. It is indeed a hard decision for him to make but what upsets me most is that he really didn't seem to know how bad the situation really was. I fear for the glider, hope my friend decides soon, the glider may not survive that long. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 6 2008, 03:53 AM |

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Feb 6 2008, 09:57 AM) Hahahahaha Awh, don't la be so sad. I feel sad too but don't let it ruin your morning. Kinda makes me feel a bit bad to post it. Right now he doesn't want to listen we can't really do anything. The best we can do is hope and pray for the poor thing. Actually in my head I was scolding him and calling him idiot, so it's ok. T E R BELI??? How can you even terrr-beli??? A 3 weeks old summore! I have nothing to say at the moment and lucky you Reanne has answered your questions. So much in my mind which is not entirely good for a jolly half day work morning. WTF!!! What kind of person is this idiot??? (If he's your friend Reanne, sorry I have to say that...) I'm totally speechless! I know there's nothing I can do about this except that I pray to god to help this poor glider through his suffering and may it end very soon..... I do hope this story/case will open up some eyes in here about why we are too passionate about glider care and welfare... We are not mean, not rude, not trying to act like we know, but just trying our very best because we care too deeply for these little creatures... It's breaking my heart terribly and I'm holding my tears away... ----- This is NOT a good morning... KP For some reason, when we put it very nicely and explain, nobody really listens. If he does pass on at least he won't suffer anymore. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 6 2008, 02:38 PM |

QUOTE(bonai @ Feb 8 2008, 02:35 PM) It depends on the glider. Sexual maturity can occur as early as 3 months. Some male gliders have a very slight bald patch whilst some are very big and obvious. But the bald spot will usually become obvious when they sexually mature. |

. . . . That's a virtually hairless glider. O.o
Though they're cute, it may be a symptom or a sign of an underlying problem. Gimme a call, it needs to be looked at by a vet. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 9 2008, 03:02 PM |

Boiled prawns? It's not in their natural diet but you can give it a try if you like. Ttry to keep it as treats though as we do not know the outcome if given long term.
Bought some organic baby food for the gliders today. 2 with Turkey and one butternut squash. Billie ate some of the Turkey Dinner, but not much. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 10 2008, 08:45 PM |

Rolled oats do lower cholesterol. It's not really only specific brands.
Read here. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=f...#healthbenefits I don't use oats for my mealworms, I use a lot of wheat bran. I find it better than oats. Wah! Iggy! Nice pics. This post has been edited by Reanne: Feb 12 2008, 06:42 PM |

QUOTE(silverwineus @ Feb 12 2008, 09:27 PM) Reanne, i know blueberries is good for gliders. Where can you get it and how does it look like here locally? You can find blueberries in almost any super or hyper market, but the ones I bought were from Carrefour in Midvalley. They're in the chilled area near the bread and buns. They look like deep dark blueberries in a flat square plastic container with a green tape wrapped round it. Decided to buy because they all did not have any signs of fungus or mold growing, which means they're not old stock and they were plumpish and juicy looking.Reanne, if not mistaken, wheat bran/oat is use as bedding for mealworms right? To preserve the mealies or as a food source for the mealies? Will this bran-oat bedding be like a magnet that draws for eg ants insects..if expose? It's bedding and food source for the mealies. Anything you put in the mealie tank will be eaten, so when they say bedding for mealies, also means food. No, it will not draw any insects unless the mealworms themselves die. QUOTE(silverwineus @ Feb 13 2008, 10:27 AM) Thanks for the information Reanne.. When you choose, don't choose any that has blueberries that are squashed. If they're all intact, when you open it, choose the softest ones and give your glider first. Soft like a squishy feeling when you gently squeeze it. The hard ones and the ones that are only slightly squishy you can store it in the fridge. It will last quite awhile, but make sure you check regularly for ripe ones. Midvalley is quite convenient, look forward to get some blueberries Are the blueberries lasting? Usually and appox how long? Wash the ones you want to give and gently wipe dry, do not wash the remaining that you're gonna store. |

But one thing about freezing them, they lose some nutrients that fresh fruits have. Here's a link about the storage.
