Hahaha... same, my females do that sometimes.... but mostly normal odourless pee.

My dad won't let me get a bigger cage, so I'm thinking of modifying a connector to connect 2 cages together.... now thinking of a plan.

hi guyz...i'm new here..hello to eeeeeeeeeevryone..something bout me..i bought a female sugar glider for my own bday gift.. tongue.gif ..actually i've been watching for the suggie days before.. icon_rolleyes.gif ..and after i bought,i named her  kiki..no idea where that name came from, but i liked it..and yet already a week, she still bites me... sad.gif ..
*
Hi and welcome.

Bonding with a glider takes time. Some may need only a few days or a week, some may need a few weeks to a few months. So be patient with your Kiki.

QUOTE(spel'it @ Feb 18 2008, 08:24 AM)
I've gotten the pet's own lactose free milk. How many times a day we need to feed them with it eh?
*
You can feed it as much as it can take. Lactose free is good, it won't harm your joey's health. You can start with 2ml in the morning and 2ml at night. Anyway, do not keep the milk for more than a week if you keep in the fridge.... what I suggest you to do is pour the milk into a ice cube tray and freeze it. Then everytime take 1 milk cube and feed. This can make the milk last longer.

Hmmm.... I find those nest being cruel nest..... coz the nest are normally stolen from the wild. It is not always empty coz I have found some for sale still with baby birds inside that are starving. Anyway, to be safe, do not give such bird nest coz it is from the wild, means it could be carrying avian mites.... could harm a glider.

What? She put the gliders together? Never quarantine?

It can be stress... it can be diet.... it can be bacteria on the skin causing the glider to overgroom.

What's a wire holder, how it is like?

Added on February 18, 2008, 9:54 pm

Is there any anti bacteria product safe for gliders.. i think most unlikely isn't it?
Should consult a vet in this case?

can a glider be infested with mites..?
*
Well, so far nothing is here that is safe.... a saline wash of sea salt mixed with water could help a bit..... or we can use anti-bacterial baby wipes....

Well, mange mites can affect any animal with fur and skin... even us....

Yups, a vet would be a safe option.

QUOTE(jitshiong @ Feb 18 2008, 09:58 PM)
Ermm, have u seen how the electrical technician hold a bundle of wires together with a plastic strap?
U can get them in hardware shop.
I dunno what is it called.
Tell them u want something to hold wires together
*
Cable ties rite?

Your idea would work for me if my cages were not the RM100 cages with the pointy roof.... it is hard to combine like that.... was thinking to make a connector using wire mesh, then use cable ties to secure the connector. I'll be connecting 1 small door to another small door. I'm still thinking if it would work or not.

Currently, i'm nursing a sick bird that i just picked up in front of my doorsteps today...

And this birdy must be kept at least 5 feet away from my gliderers.. (gliderers?..hehe)

Who knows they can transmit unwanted disease right?
*
Birds carry a few type of mites.... feather mites, fleas.... the feather mites are small like dust particles.

Yups, it is wise to keep your gliders far from it. Heheheh.... you used gliderers.

I also keep birds, chickens and ducks, all are kept far apart from my gliders just to be on the safe side.

What bird did you picked up? Sparrow? Bulbul?

I treat my guinea with Ivermectin for mange mite.. but of course, i ain't going to experiment my gliders as guinea pigs right? Haha..
Yeah, why didn't i think of such brilliant conventional way of using saline and salt? Why can't i use cooking salt but sea salt instead, any particular reason?
Wow..
I can't imagine how you going to make wire mesh as connector, is it making loops?
If you observe the standard cage sold in pet shops, some they use thin plates as connector, bended to a cylinder shape..
you don't need to used aluminium or steel plate, you can think of some thing similar to that..
When it pops to my mind, i'll let you know..
*
Same, I treated my GPs with Ivermectin too.... for gliders I think it would be very risky by injection, so oral is safer.

I'm not sure why, apparently my dad told me sea salt is better coz it is not iodized... much natural. My family now switching to using sea salt instead of table salt now too.

Everyone busy I guess.... and I'm mostly online at night hahaha.

Ok, that's almost the same stuff in the article I read on soy being bad for gliders.... so that is good proof that we should be cautious with what we feed to our gliders.

Anyway, I have found a few eucalyptus trees at a park.... I dunno what is the name of the park but I do know that it is always full with people and kites on good weekends.... Hmmm.... gotta ask my dad about it. Anyway, if I have found out the place, anyone wanna go and get some branches? The trees are not really in the park but by the roadside, so I think we won't get chased or anything if we get a few branches...

hye guys, one silly questions from the newbies here..do y'all bath your sugar glider????coz mine is bit smelly, because she always paste the leftover from the food inside the pouch...so she smells like apple busuk a bit la..
*
Oh, never bath a glider! It is risky and it can cause it to get sick if you do not use the correct bathing method.... Still, I won't advice people to bath their suggies, especially newbies coz it is a procedure that has to be done in less than 5 minutes, which means wetting, shampooing and drying done in 2 to 3 minutes. No hair dryer as it can burn a glider....

You should not feed your glider when it is inside its pouch, that is to avoid it dirtying and also causing the pouch and glider to stink.

To clean your glider, use baby wipes or a damp cloth. Then if it smells, use puppy or kitten pet powder that you can find at petshops.

Saw it quite a while dy, but that area always lots of people cuz of the kite play and park...

Anyway, I've came across some nurseries selling eucalyptus tree actually. It was like 3-4 weeks ago when I was on my way to a cousins wedding in Denai Alam and had to pass by all the nurseries in Sg. Buloh...

Not all the nursery there got, just have to look closely at the trees there lor... If you know how eucalyptus tree looks like, you'll be able to spot it smile.gif

I was so excited when I saw some, but I couldn't stop by because I was all dressed up for a wedding and my car was full with my whole family sweat.gif

Dunno when am I able to go again cuz my husband is reluctant to go that area as he said it's very far... Unless any forumer here wanna go brows.gif

Your friend uses woodshavings? Without a separator? Gliders do not need any bedding.... only a substrate like newspaper or breeder's celect as it is clean and no allergies. But there must always be a divider mesh that separates the substrate from the glider....

Heheh...my poised joey, Koochee, wud stick to me like glue. She wud only go exploring when she see the coast is clear. Else, she wud be on me, only. But she is very friendly with ppl.
But, Cheekoo is a different matter. He likes exploring and very active, and only come back to me when he's tired and sleepy already. He wud want to climb and sleep on me. Hehehe... And he's anti social, when with unfamilair ppl, he wud crab like mad. Heheheh....

Yes, oats can help but then normally as a wet bath. Maybe same thing if use as bedding..... but many shampoos for sensitive skin or dry scalp has oat or wheat germ added.

Aiyah, we go ramai-ramai glider owners to Sg. Buloh lah... Each of us can bring home 1 tree tongue.gif Hehe.
I used to use Litter Star. Always have separator between the substrate and the gliders.

Now I just use newspaper cuz of the size of my cage. If use Litter Star or any other substrate sure die to fill the whole tray sweat.gif

Yeah, I always find my suggies fishing for the dropped fruits under the cage too doh.gif Macam tak ada food lain wanna fish for the dropped ones sweat.gif

well, personally i wouldnt really like to bring the terrible two out at night lah.. omg man.. those two really damn fast at night.. i dont want to risk them getting lost... especially if i am standing next to a tall tree!!! lols.... you get the picture.

meanwhile, those two fellas are wreaking havoc on my arms... the grip so hardly!!!!... my hands all got bintik2 merah and small slits...lols... i guess they still dont really think that im the 'tree' yet... lol.. but Bugs (my male) likes to nibble on my neck and chew my hair... quite annoying at times but i just remove him and hold him for a while.. my female is like super duper active after 10.. jumps up and down.. but morning onwards, she will slumber like a log! no matter how loud i talk, how vigorous i walk, shell be fast asleep lols... but Bugs always peeps out... makes me think that he wants to pee all the time but no... neways, tried smuggling em to school today... thank god they did not make a beep or *marah* from teachers... lol.

waiting for the food to defrost b4 i feed them currently...
*
Eucalyptus can grow here, but not in abundance and also not as tall and great as in Australia. There are a few trees in Lake Gardens, and also UPM..... UPM has quite a number of those trees around in certain part of their campus.

Saturday or Sunday should be fine for me as well.

Hopefully it turns out well for us. It would be good for the glider community to gather and share and learn from each other, as well as educate those that have little to no proper info on gliders.

Just wash, cut in half and serve. Easy stuff. Do limit to 1 cherry tomato a day and make sure no cherry vine or leaf coz that is poisonous.

last night i saw a pair of sugar glider sell for rm430, is it consider a good price?  unsure.gif
*
Hmmm... adults? If adults, then is a bit high if untame ones. Adults are usually going for RM120 to RM150, although some places are offering adult males at RM60 to Rm100 each....

If it is a petshop, be aware, their stock are sometimes not healthy since they do not feed good food. I once went to a petshop, and he told me that gliders only eat Grapes and Kuaci.... Grapes can be toxic to gliders, kuaci is too high in fat and it can cause blockage or choking if the glider doesn't chew right.

it's raw honey, bought from forumer here in garage sales biggrin.gif

Wahhh.... not raw honey! Only use Pure honey, which is what you usually find in supermarkets and organic shops coz it is pasturized, treated with the right temperature. Anyway, honey is not really good for gliders, licking treats are ok but a glider can get diarrhea if it takes too much honey. Also, some say it could lead to teeth problems.

Some people mixed that up. Raw honey is normally not treated and filtered as proper as the ones sold at super markets.... but honey is full of sugar that doesn't really benefit except gives loads of carbohydrates... as treats, just use the normal honey is ok.

Good, alternating mix and fruits is good as well. But for me, I got no problem tongue.gif all my gliders finish all their fruits and mix at the same time. Put a large bowl of fruits and my SLURP! at night, then the next morning all gone.

I was about to ask the same thing.... human grade means quality that is good enough for humans to eat.... if it is not human grade, that means it is pet quality, which means the ingredients used is not safe for humans at all.

Also.... what extensive research? It took me months of trial and error, experimenting with different gliders to study what gliders like and what they do not, what benefits their health and what ingredient ratio is correct..... that is how Connie and I came up with SLURP!, not something I came up in a week and not something I would sell without testing it.
