QUOTE(speedy3210 @ Aug 10 2021, 11:10 PM) Damn good put it in Myvi. I just use Shell Helix Ultra cause Ferrari also use. Motul not used by Ferrari so I don't think it is good. My personal opinion, and Ferrari's opinion. Steponlego liked this post

you got to start reading your owners manual and see for yourself the viscosity recommended for your engine. I dont think 10W-40 is the favoured grade.

Spot on. Dont be surprised if someone comes in and say - 10w40 is highly recommended for old cars / cars beyond 100K mileage etc, "better protection for old engine". Besids, the engine was designed to take 10w30 from the beginning. If the engine is well serviced, it is still recommended to take Xw30 for the rest of its life. |

Just out of curiosity, every car is designed with their own specs. The oil it uses are also tested by the engineers.
For example, Perodua have their own engine oil designed for their car. Does using a "better" oil benefit the engine? I have also heard of things like engine oil designed for Asian cars or Continental cars. Is there really such a thing? From my personal experience, I think having the correct viscosity is more important than getting an oil designed for your car. Provided it's not fake eh. |

There are different oil specification designed for Asian & continental cars. For example, Perodua have their own engine oil designed for their car. Does using a "better" oil benefit the engine? From my personal experience, I think having the correct viscosity is more important than getting an oil designed for your car. Provided it's not fake eh. Continental cars mostly going for mid-low SAPS engine oil which is designed to help prolong the catalytic converter lifespan, reduce carbon or emission. You can see those engine oil designed for continental cars got approve or recommendation spec from BMW LL-XX, MBB 229.5x, VW-50X.X listed behind or the front label stickers. For Asian cars mostly is not that stringent and follow API/ACEA standards, but take note that nowadays more & more sophisticated engine coming out from Japanese car and might foresee different oil specification. If not mistaken Honda does got their own HTO-06 oil spec for early turbocharge engine of Acura RDX. For peace of mind, better refer to your car owner manual of the oil spec. requirement. For Perodua - I still think its all marketing hype. For example, Perodua have their own engine oil designed for their car. Does using a "better" oil benefit the engine? They just wanna make theirs "exclusive" , like "Genuine Parts" marketing. Perodua uses Toyota engines. So its not supposed to be that fussy as Merc or BMW. Perodua's own engine oil is developed and supplied by Petronas. Nothing special about "Designed for Daihatsu engines". Using a better oil other than Perodua - Its a personal preference . Some will feel "engine smoother". No harm trying other oils. StrikeQUAN and kirakun liked this post

QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Aug 11 2021, 03:16 PM) For Perodua - I still think its all marketing hype. Agreed, been using perodua semi syn 5w30 for alza while under warranty. Found out perodua's semi syn doesn't last past 7 months(engine sounded harsher and more vibration) despite still plenty left on mileage due. After changed to mobil 1 semi syn 5w30, obvious difference of smoother engine, less vibration and can last even up to 12 months and beyond but i did the OCI at 12 months anyway. Mileage due also still far away as the car is underused. They just wanna make theirs "exclusive" , like "Genuine Parts" marketing. Perodua uses Toyota engines. How your alza still under warranty by doing so? |

That service center didn’t bother or just not as stringent as some others I believe. Also as like I said earlier the mileage is still far from due anyway. |

It either they dont bother now but once u wanna claim warranty, then only they come out with sort of reasons from the T&C. That why we heard many said this or that manufacturers tipu to not honour the warranty then. |

But I did reason with them every single time throughout the six months period interval cycle and no mention warranty will be voided though. Well it’s up to the rest to find out since mine no longer sent to service center. |
