Is like buying branded bag vs local bag. Both also can use but Motul is more famous & imported, so you pay premium price for it.
Engine Oil, Motul brand

QUOTE(littlefire @ Aug 17 2021, 08:46 AM) Is like buying branded bag vs local bag. My friend's experience with Motul vs Castrol with his Forested said that Motul oil became watery much faster than the Castrol. Observed when Subaru start switching to Motul. BTM, he likes to drive fast. Both also can use but Motul is more famous & imported, so you pay premium price for it. |

Previously in Subaru SC Castrol is offering 5W-40, while the latest Motul offering both 5W-30 & 5W-40. If he choose the 5W-30 for sure it will feel more "watery". BTW, nowadays modern engine prefer more "watery" oil as it can reach to different part of engine faster time and felt lighter compare to thicker oil. API
This is the more basic as it is split (for passenger cars) into two categories. S = Petrol and C = Diesel, most oils carry both petrol (S) and diesel © specifications. ACEA This is the European equivalent of API (US) and is more specific in what the performance of the oil actually is. A = Petrol, B = Diesel and C = Catalyst compatible or low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur). If you are interested in detail, a good reading here: Oil Labelling Explained As far as I know it is really hard to really find equivalent between the two standard. Japan has its own rating standard because they are Japanese Actually the approach is different between the Europe and the US. The oil company in the US created engine oil, test and put the rating based on defined ratings. Car manufacturers will decide which engine oil is suitable for their engines. In the Europe if I'm not mistaken, the oil companies will formulate the oil that suite the car engines and tested it. The engine manufacturer will define what is the best specification for their engines. Something like that. |

No. same rating 5W-40. I know the 5W-30 is used for XV and the 5W-40 is used for Forester in sc.If he choose the 5W-30 for sure it will feel more "watery".
