Just out of curiosity, every car is designed with their own specs. The oil it uses are also tested by the engineers.
For example, Perodua have their own engine oil designed for their car. Does using a "better" oil benefit the engine?
I have also heard of things like engine oil designed for Asian cars or Continental cars. Is there really such a thing?
From my personal experience, I think having the correct viscosity is more important than getting an oil designed for your car. Provided it's not fake eh.
Yes. There are different oil specification designed for Asian & continental cars. For example, Perodua have their own engine oil designed for their car. Does using a "better" oil benefit the engine?

Continental cars mostly going for mid-low SAPS engine oil which is designed to help prolong the catalytic converter lifespan, reduce carbon or emission.
You can see those engine oil designed for continental cars got approve or recommendation spec from BMW LL-XX, MBB 229.5x, VW-50X.X listed behind or the front label stickers.
For Asian cars mostly is not that stringent and follow API/ACEA standards, but take note that nowadays more & more sophisticated engine coming out from Japanese car and might foresee different oil specification. If not mistaken Honda does got their own HTO-06 oil spec for early turbocharge engine of Acura RDX.
For peace of mind, better refer to your car owner manual of the oil spec. requirement.
