No wonder, guess it might not available to everyone hmm.gif

Somehow my office doesn't have 5G even though DNB website show my office area have 5G coverage laugh.gif

How is Maxis 5G indoor coverage, for example inside a mall? Has anyone managed to check this out? I assume all speed test screenshots above are outdoor 5G speed test using DNB transmission tower?

QUOTE(kyle_kon @ Aug 15 2023, 09:56 PM)
For me, it was horrible. I was in Mid Valley/The Gardens earlier. I need to be close to outside the mall to get 5g signal. Otherwise inside the mall only get 4g signal and cannot get 5g. With 5g, I only got 100mbps at best or worst 30mbps. When I got back home though, my 5g speed was around 600mbps
*
All 5G coverage is determined by DNB who built towers mostly outdoors, so indoor coverage still depend on telco's 4G coverage.

Personally I find that in KL, Maxis 4G indoor coverage is really good most of the time. Even in Pavilion's basement foodcourt I can get full-bar 4G+ signal at 200Mbps.

QUOTE(uni_lib @ Aug 16 2023, 08:21 AM)
Maxis 5G still favors 4G instead 5G even 5G network strong. For UMobile is okay...
*
If you're on iPhone, make sure to select "5G On" in Mobile Data settings if you want to use 5G over 4G all the time. By default it's on "5G Auto", where iOS will prefer use to 4G if 5G signal is weaker than 4G.

But its 4G is horrible.
Full bar but no data flow.

Yes. It always on. Since I'm using Umobile 5G. No issue with UMobile. Except 5G on Maxis. I'm on dual sim iphone.

how to subscribe 5g access for sub line? currently on rm98 + rm48 shareline
im able to subscribe for principal but no option for the shareline

switch to subline acc > go to shop tab > buy/activate 5G from there

Can anyone share the APN setting for Fold 3? Having problems with accessing 5G. If I turn airplane mode on and off, I will get 5G briefly and then back to LTE.

same as 4g

unet

or your area the coverage is weak, hence bounce back to 4G, my office is same - only 4G, momentarily see 5G white line box

Thanks for the update. Looks like Maxis is not really 5G ready in terms of indoor coverage. They seem to rely heavily on DNB outdoor transmission towers for now at least. I will wait till Maxis improves their indoor 5G coverage before switching to their expensive plans. No point rushing into this half baked 5G. Also, 4G is sufficient for me right now.

What a joke. The last telco to rollout 5G after multiple delays and yet, the coverage is just like other telcos because of DNB and, the plans are expensive. Imagine paying extra just to get outdoor 5G coverage?!
*
On current state, any 5G related coverage be it indoor or outdoor, it will be under DNB provision until it reaches 80% COPA (Coverage of population) as stated by the government.

Until the second 5G entity to be formed on early 2024 after reaching 80% COPA..Maxis are just like any other telco that rides on DNB 5G network, they have no provision on the implementation of the 5G towers.

So basically now every telco in Malaysia that offers 5G facing the same indoor coverage issue, in my opinion the comparison for this period of time among the telcos and plans should be on overall experience of 4G + 5G and see which one stands out on the value for performance vs price perspective.

About the "half baked 5G", there is an interesting occasion which I experience it myself. Last week before maxis 5G launch, I was in a Starbucks (indoor) with my bunch of friend , the 4G tower on that area was heavily congested and my maxis 4G barely moves, the speed was 0.5mbps and not responding despite 4G+ full bar. While on the other hand all my friends on other telco that using 5G was smooth sailing and average 300mbps+..(their 4G also not responding as well when testing the speed)

In this occasion, the half baked 5G is a blessing as it can handle more capacity (when the signal available).

if one does not mind to pay some little extra and with the right expectation on current 5G state , maybe can go try for it. Else hold on first

That's exactly my point - should wait till the 2nd entity setup and then see how the telcos can improve their indoor 5G coverage, before jumping in the bandwagon. For those who can wait and sufficient with 4G, should hold on first.

I was attending a cultural event in Shah Alam last month, it was super crowded with people so expected the cell service can be very slow.
But found out that the I can even send out video messages on 5G in moderate speed, compared to 4G where it couldn't even load single message on Whatsapp.

Is it worth the switch? Well fortunately I did.
Now that Maxis offers 5G I recommend people to subscribe for the 5G access pass first, don't upgrade your plan first.

So far I find it worth the switch.

I get 5G as my staying area and also my working area and my working area is factory office. So far so good except working area toilet is revert to 4G+.

To me so far I am happy the switch.

My staying area always good for any Telco except U Mobile.

Also I am under Unlimited plan as I am using Maxis Fiber also, so they is no limited of speed after quota full as they is no quota limitation.

I stay at Airport area and not KL which often congestion. I believe after a month still OK as now. 😊

Sometimes it's possible due to other building blocking? hmm.gif
Because I've seen some of my colleagues having 5G and once enter into the building, the HP reverts to 4G.

+1 on this. When I visit my friend's home in PJ, once inside their house, if you browse, you can see it's lagging / buffering. bangwall.gif mad.gif

By any chance you are inside some secluded part of the building?
The reason I'm asking is because yesterday when my colleague activated the 5G, his HP also showed 4G. Then when he reboot and went to the nearby window, it showed 5G.
But then when he went deeper inside the office near the server room, his HP reverted back to 4G.
