Hi,
Last week, Maxis called up to promote the upgrade from 30Mbps to 100Mbps plan for only additional RM40+- per month. I did confirmed to proceed over the phone, but no further action from Maxis.

Today I checked on my router and noticed that LAN 2 shown 100Mbps! (As attached photo shows). Does it mean upgraded?

Then, I immediately do a speed test. Unfortunately, only showing result at 27.63Mbps!

I missed something?

Your Router only support 100mbps. That is the rated speed of lan not the actual speed. But if you subscribe for 100mbps then I guess you don't need a new router. Personally a gigabit router would be better

Yes. But maybe try reboot your router first. Then do another speedtest.

Nobody know.
But for sure that 100mbps has nothing to do with your internet speed. Its lan speed.

Reboot your router, then perform speedtest using LAN cable. If you're getting 30Mbps below, means maxis belom process lagi. Suggest you call and follow up with cs

The promotion i get us upgrade 30 Mbps to 100Mbps 1st year maintain RM 90 2nd year pay normal price RM 129

I got similar offer few months back, but the agent told me there's no contract binding, after 1 year can revert back to 30mbps if not satisfied. rclxub.gif

I suspect those agents simply con ppl by empty promises. just to get ppl sign up. Damn this is very unethical mad.gif

Hopefully I can revert back to 30mbps after a year, since I'm not quite benefit from the extra speed, I'm not using any 4k streaming services, and only occasionally download big files, 30mbps still adequate for now. sad.gif

How you connect to the internet basically:

PC <-Connection-> Router/Modem <-Connection-> Internet

Your screenshot is this:

PC <-100Mbps-> Router/Modem

Maxis is supposed to upgrade this:

Router <-30Mbps-> Internet

to:

Router <-100Mbps-> Internet

So you are looking at the wrong thing. The only way to know your connection is to look at your bill, check your account status, via call or online, or wait til they inform you that you have been upgraded. Then only do a speed test.

Depends on whether u need to change your old router. If u use old maxis router they will change it to new one and bind u with another 2 years contract.

I upgrade both my account..one with new contract one without contract (using own router)

But as usual those 100Mbps is just a marketing gimmick..for the past 1 month i only manage to reach 90Mpbs once..and most of the time the speed hovering around 70 Mbps.

I gonna file a complaint to maxis and MCMC soon.

Bro,

If you signed 2 years then they should have come and installed a new router + modem.

You should have just port out. Request port out and they offered RM30 off for a year if I upgraded to 100Mbps with no contract (provided you dont take their new router, modem still can be upgraded if too old). Now already 7 months using 100Mbps for RM99.

From what I tested on unifi fibre:
If you're using old devices for speed test 100 Mbps, you can only get actual speed result when using 5ghz wifi.
If you're testing with wifi 6 device, you can get actual speed result using either 2.4 or 5ghz wifi connection.

sometimes speedtest isnt a perfect way to measure, unless you able to measure the speed direct to your isp.

for most of us 30mbps is good enough(for single user), what trouble us is when there are multiple users need to use the internet at the same time.

like speedtest only connect to a point and try to use the max speed to/from that point, but if multiple users use internet at the same time, 99% of all the time they do not access to the same server/ip, so even you get max speed like 30mbps from a server, you can still get higher from multiple servers.

Yes they just upgrade over the air Iirc.

I upgraded from 100mbps to 300mpbs. It was implemented over night.

If you're using maxis, then open the maxis app. You can check from there.

They always said via WiFi sure will not get full speed. Like mine 30, speed test 26+ ,they said this speed already consider very good! 😳

Wah... Saved a lot! But the router? I have to grab one also! Which would you recommend & price? So,the provided modem just keep using it will do?

check either the TM modem /router is connected via phone line or fiber

many maxis promoter just keep asking u upgrade but not realize some users esp staying in condo only have the phone copper line connected which has the max limitation of 30mbps transfer speed.

So regardless what package u use, it reaches max 30mbps

I mean if you really sign 2 years contract, by right they should provide you with a brand new router and modem. Did you get a new router or still using the old one?

ensure your condo can support >30mbps

i know my condo can support max 30mbps only, i am using Maxis 30M package.

Last few months agent called said can upgrade to 100M, i told him sure or not, my place only max 30M as i knew.

He said can, no problem.

I ask him double check, then he come back tell me sorry, cannot, max line capacity is 30M only.... doh.gif

On TM, you can just say, your router are having issues, then change it while resign for 2 years again, but it may charge you RM 30 per visit la.
Unsure for Maxis one.

If you are old router that is not TP-link AC 1200, like D-link one, better keep it and using it as another extended Wi-Fi Router.

Yes, depend on condo is using Phoneline(VDSL) or Fiber, but there is not the best thing to look at.

In my hometown, TM first pull fiber for all double layer house, with 800M as top speed.
Then, they extended it before MCO 1.0 to all single layer house, with top speed of 30M...

So as you can see, not all Fiber are under 800M, many can cap at 30M. tongue.gif

Also unsure, for TM they will upgrade your modem, IF it is 100M LAN port for 300M+ plan.

Today, I tried to use Ethernet Cat5e cable from Modem to Router. Shocked! Can't deal with Internet! Then, when I switched back to Cat5 , Internet worked again! I repeat a few times with different Cat5 & Cat5e that I have, same result, Cat5e doesn't work!

I thought Cat5e perhaps will bring me a little better result, but not working at all!

What's wrong?

Modem: TP-Link VZ000-f3
Router: TP-LINK Archer C5v

** I even can't find VZ000-f3 online! 🤕
