what's ur budget?

if u need it tmr then can only buy from physical shop
*

Flexible budget, but must have good reason. If you need number then, maybe 7k but at least 7 years durability. I got 2 shop right now for both laptops I mentioned above. Lowyat n kepong.
*
None of gaming laptops can at least 7 years really because of how pc gaming industry works and how gaming laptop being built for mainstream consumers only. Want durability? Business laptops only (but cannot game ofc)

Just get whichever cheaper but good enough. Of course if your budget really 7k then get whichever better like legion. But imo a bit overpriced if from retail.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Jan 15 2022, 12:13 AM)
My Inspiron 5558 died today after 6 years of service. Coincidently, my previous Dell Studio 15 also lasted 6 years. What are the general sentiments for Dell laptop nowadays? Naturally, I am looking at Inspiron again, but it appears that those with a dedicated graphic card now starts from RM3150. Those cheaper uses UHD Graphics, not even Iris Xe.

What do you think of these Lenovo IdeaPad offering:

https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...3-/p/82HL00EJMJ
https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...L6/p/82H80116MJ
https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...L6/p/82H801VNMJ

The third one has Integrated Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, which I suppose if slightly better than UHD Graphics.
I am alsp looking at other options. Some basic requirements:

Intel processor, preferably 11th gen i3 or i5
256 SSD min
15 inch display, full HD
Usage: Microsoft office, Google Meet and Zoom, video and songs, internet, no gaming, 15 hours per day
Budget: less than RM2800, can stretch to RM3000 for a good deal.

Any recommendation?

Thank you
*
The three ideapad models above will NOT last long

Consider at least ideapad 5 or thinkbook normal (non-s)/E series or stretch budget for s models instead if want last long or stretch for thinkpad higher end series (L or T)

AMD is same perf, yet budget friendly, so you don't have to limit just intel only

DM zm fong for discounts

Unfortunately those are beyond my budget.

Would the service life of the IdeaPad 3 be the same or worse than Dell Inspiron 3000?
https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/laptops-and...op/hni3511401my

I am actually worried with the integrated graphic. My HP ProBook 440 G7 is already giving problem after 2 years of minimal usage.
*
With discount code will be more palatable for your limited budget. Have to ask zm fong though.

Or try yourself DOORBUSTER when add in cart.

Ideapad 3xx series or Inspiron 3xxx series problem is hinge easily broken due to material plastic cut cost, so will be mostly same. If you don't mind request warrenty during 1-2year or even replace with new after warranty then go for it , your choice

Hi sifus,

Looking for a 16 inch laptop with dedicated graphics. Budget is 5k-7k.

Brand preference is anything that gives the least issue. Heard the new Dells, Apples, and HP have many problems.

Alternatively considering cheaper 15.6 MSI laptops too, would like to know if anyone has feedback on those.

Thanks!

Legion 5 pro okay mou

Thanks yup been looking at this, Dell Inspiron 16 plus, and HP Omen 15/16. Which of the brands are most reliable now? Been 8 years since I last bought a pc so kinda out of touch.
*
None of brands are 100% reliable, there are lemon units from every brand.

The best is still legion 5 pro because it ticks all thing from display, build and chasis cooling among the best of the class. Omen has weird power / sleep key location (easy to be mispressed) and dell inspiron ain't proper gaming laptop (you will need see G15 or alienware they are proper one but dell still sucks making gaming laptop so are usually not recommend unless lack of options or price drop to your budget)

Thanks. What about Asus btw? I think I saw good reviews on Zephyrus G15?

The laptop I want to get is for productivity(content creation) and not gaming purpose btw, hence the Inspiron 16 Plus.
*
Other than being lightweight and thin, no advantages at all + asus poor QC

Hi how is the experience so far? I suppose this is the customizable unit? The panel is the standard IPS or you upgraded it too? Any comment about it?
*
Now lenovo website most think or even ideapad models has removed the customization option, you can now choose from preconfig options only subject to stock availability

Are you urgent or can wait for a while for possible better deals (but not very likely)?

Hi sifus, needed rekomen for smtg quick i.e. ready stock prebuilt or within 1 week.

Budget: around 3 -3.5k
Anything decent with mx450 for the above budget?
Will mostly be casual usage but will be running android emulator hence would prefer to have upgradable ram or come with 16gb ram.
Not picky with screen as it will mostly be connected to external monitor.
Preferably to be a thin and light (13" or 14") as will be travelling occasionally. Battery life is not much of a concern too as it will be connected most of the time.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance smile.gif
*
Nope,
Just find customizable self upgradable to 16gb thinkpad E14 G3 (ship with 3-6 days one)

Ready stock other than lenovo no others with upgradable ram or 16gb, most with soldered 8gb onboard

Emulator is enough with integrated graphics. No need MX (is like half bucket water version of geforce, just no worth it if you can up a bit budget for proper gtx 1650)

RTX3070 gaming laptops recommendation please. Budget below RM8k if possible, might be willing to go up to RM9k if it has god tier specs

So far my choices are MSI GP66, lenovo legion 5 pro, and illegear onyx (but trying to avoid illegear due to the many issues reported in the illegear thread)
*
Legion 5 pro yes

MSI is pathetic nowadays even GP66 the second class below GE series also NO type c or thunderbolt/dp out

@ZM Fong - what do you think about Gigabyte G5? Sees price/specs are fine.  Thanks!

Mediocre cooling for the 10th gen version, i doubt will improve anything for 11th gen because reuse chasis from many years ago clevo design. Is quite obsolete design IMO

Bettter off with nitro 5 (inter i5 11th) with modern-ish 2020 design ( derived from predator helios 300 since 2019) since is similar in terms of gpu wattage but a bit better cooling

Budget : 3k

Purpose : for business use
light (1.5, 1.6 kg, less better)
8gb ram, expendable
8 hour or more battery life
SSD
wait time 1 month

Thinkpad e14/e15 g3? Just little over 3k or less with discount code

QUOTE(GetHappy @ Jan 28 2022, 10:34 AM)
Hi sifus, would like to ask for your recommendations on specs below:

1. Budget : around 4k or lesser
2. Usage : Mainly use to surf youtube, movies, stock exchanges, MS programs, light gaming like GTA V (dont need ultra high settings)
3. Requirements: 16 GB ram min, SSD, good display and lightweight if possible, (touch screen if can?)
4. Wait time : can range up to a couple of months.
5. Blacklist brands: Acer
*
2) Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 82K200AXMJ (RM3900+)
R5 5600H, 8GB (upgradable), 512GB SSD, RTX3050

Unless you must have good display or light weight, this will do (both features combined need add budget to sub 5k)

preferred screen size?

budget? wait time?

every laptop can overheat if pushed to max, just that some do better than others

even with low settings GTA V still needs some decent GPU power to run smoothly

wait for ryzen 6000?
*
6000h will Get obliviated by alderlake h also. But only thing is costly ddr5 that will raise cost too high

QUOTE(Triton @ Jan 29 2022, 12:09 AM)
Thanks. Which discount code to use?

I just check out few Thinkpad Gen 13, few of them have "onboard ram". Does it mean have extra slot for upgrade in the future or cannot upgrade at all?
*
Try one of these

DEALDAY
DOORBUSTER
GETNOW

Even better with edu account

E14/15g3 has one free sodimm slot. Hybrid implementation of onboard and slotted ram.

is there any comparable with HP Pavilion Aero Laptop 13-be0048AU in terms of size, weight, and price? any other option can be consider?
*
decent except for 8gb onboard ram (non upgradeable) and slightly smaller battery. overall good budget choice since there is no other comparable 13 incher really at that price unless go for 14 inch

there is ThinkBook 13s Gen 3 20YA000CMJ but is from lenovo site and "only 1 left" lol

QUOTE(steevan1000 @ Feb 7 2022, 11:30 PM)
is ryzen any better than intel ?
most of the games i like tend to drain more on CPU performance
wait time is not an issue
*
you can consider 12th gen alder lake because is much better in every way over even ryzen 6000 series

otherwise ryzen 5000/6000 series is comparable with 11th gen
