still really a great phone. change the battery, format the phone, use it for another 2 years.
I will wait until notch less phone is released. so sad that Samsung is skipping note 21 due to global chip shortage.
Just feel ashamed that there is no more OS upgrades for Note 9 as it is definitely capable of running Android 11, and monthly security update is going to switch to quarterly updates maybe in the starting of next year.

Samsung functions in that manner. The phone works well in Android 10, which is not a non-usable version Android. Security updates should last for another 18-24 months, so enjoy using it until Samsung stops the security updates.
If you want a 7 year OS updates and 9 year security updates, you need to get an iPhone without a S-Pen.

If u had budget get a new note20 ultra. Samsung offering at RM2999. Not sure when will this promotion ends
I don't think I want to buy Samsung anymore.
My S8 exhibit the same problem but I thought that because of rough handling. But not with this note 9, it never touch the ground before but still have the same problem after update.
I just want to get it repaired at no cost hopefully.

Eh is is confirmed no note21 this year? I'm waiting for it actually huhu ... my battery just went from bad to worst ... before charging like 2-3 times a day .. now 4-5 times lol dunno wtf is wrong ... I know battery has gone bad but 4-5 times is too much? I charge my phone to like 80%, then i just use it less than 1h reach to below 30% already ... some software issues?? The SOT is definitely not accurate from my screenshot (edit: eh correct SOT 1h only ... i saw the 6h+ number) ... i literally see the % dropping when using the phone lol ... why the heck is google running in background? I can't even kill it
I got another ss from accubattery accidentally deleted ... the discharge, when screen on 10% ... when screen off discharge 50% lol wtf? I didn't install any new app also ...

Thanks for the reply. So, after replacing battery, it's water resistance capability still remains?
You already pay for the water resistant test, mean they are resealing it for you what. sure still remains. because u have to sign that you a paper that acknowledge the water seal test is done correctly/properly. if you worry, u can request put into water see got problem or not before sign what. lol I rmb I read this scenario in other Galaxies thread.
I was wondering recently you guys notice anything about whatsapp draining more battery than normally should in the background for note 9. I have experiment it by uninstall the whatsapp and my battery life become better.

i fixed my phone lag and battery issues by doing factory reset. lol
how u restore after that? 1 by 1 install back the apps? or some kind of backup app? Thanks.
Google got apps/settings backup covered, right? Whenever you change phone or format, they'll give you the option to restore the apps back on the new device.
u want best restore methods is Samsung SmartSwitch. if you want lazy man methods is Google methods.
Which did u use? Coz u mentioned u solved lag n battery issues after you do it so interested in your method.
Coz i always think so solve need to factory reset then install back 1 by 1 ....normally phone lag due to cache, junk, whatever things i assume, so if restore then will get back the same junk? Or SmartSwitch is that smart?

I use Smartswitch backup to a pendrive and restore back later (and with some help of Google restore too)
during restore might tooks 30min-60min depending internet connection (needed by Google) and offline restore done locally (needed by SmartSwitch)
Yeah, maybe clear a lot of clear a lot of junk.
Before I was having: aprox 100GB of Internal Storage + almost 90% full from my SD Card. After now I just having: aprox 50GB of Internal Storage used up + the same as usual 90% from SD Card (SD Card stay untouch during factory reset)
All app are still the original one, but I did uninstall some like maybe around 10 apps that I rarely use. In case you wonder I have up to 150 apps that needed to restore from backup.
Also, I also did some extra stuff that I previously didn't. I uninstall a lot of bloatware using adb methods. that one u require google xda for solution.

At least for my own experience, before reset, each reboot I need wait more than 2-3min before my keyboard pop up to let me key in password to unlock my device. right now after I reset, each reboot, I just need wait aprox 10sec to allow my keyboard pop up.
It shown that, all my app startup are quicker than before.
Yes this, actually is on my Samsung tab A That device only have 16GB storage Dunno what trigger it keeping auto enable and auto update, waste of storage
just do it, hope won cause other apps crash

I'm not sure about the performance, but i've been using 3rd party cables and chargers for years... (mostly baseus, ugreen) for all of my devices. Never had major problem (like no charging or disconnection). Your disconnection problem only on single cable, or most of them?

using UGreen USB C to USB C for Android Auto so far so good.

seems like almost everyone got this green screen issue, i had it too, i just decided to keep it in my shelves. for mine one is not entirely fault, if i don't clikc the power button, and just tap on the screen to awake it, most of the time i still get the screen back to normal but if i press the power button sure i will get the green screen.
mine sg set so can't do anything, if yours is msia set try to bring to samsung maybe they will replace for free. my set i already treat as a backup or dex phone haha

It was my mom's and warranty dah expired. She actually did change the screen but not with Samsung, not sure where. Replaced. okay for awhile then jadi balik. So I'm hesitant to do another screen replacement, worried that it's not actually a hardware issue.

just found a walk - around. There's an app called oled saver which basically fixed your brightness to a fixed level. Just tried it and it adjust finely for now. will test it for longer and see how.
Morning, not sure you guys facing the same issue as mine with battery drain past midnight when data & wifi is off. I have done the factory reset yesterday, yet still have this issue. I'm not sure is the Maxis Signal problem or its the facebook services/ google play services is the culprit. But if I disable them, i will have apps issues related to them. Last night battery was at 99% before i got to bed, and when i wake up at 7.57am, the battery has depleted to 72%. This was a huge drain when not using the phone. So need your guys advise here. Thanks in advance.

I try before for flight mode, definitely no issue with battery drain, but if someone emergency need call me also cannot call me unless i on Wifi. When i switch from mobile data to Wifi or 3G, the battery drain is normal. I think my place 4G signal is quite weak, causing the phone trying to get strong signal which result in battery drain. When i use my phone in office using 4G, the battery drain also normal.

I bought my phone in 2019, never change battery. My note 2 battery still working fine now which i use as alarm, if use mobile data, definitely will drain more.

I don't have any issue at my office & other place using 4G. I will try test with other Telco. What apps you used? Mind to introduce?
I use this apps put some shortcut on home screen -Mobile network -Digi mobile data plan from google setting -Notification log (android 7 to 9 as now android 11 come with notification log, android 10 not working, it just crash) -Battery usage, so no need open device care
It still usable after installing PWMfree app to control the brightness. Basically is Samsung fault due to their firmware.
I have no issue after using the PWMfree app for over a few weeks. Until it is really broken then I might go for the repair. Besides 1 week to repair is too long and the customer services at Penang E-Gate pretending don't know about the green screen issue. I rather go for 3rd party for replacement.

That’s good it’s always recommended to repair in third party shops when budget is exceed in official service centre. My dad own Note9 accidentally dropped the screen in rock. Then we replaced fro rm800 something in Samsung store ( before Covid )
So luckily we didn’t experience Green tint issue. Thanks for S Pen pointer app. Will try it.

In case of green screen, there is another app can try: OLED Saver which mention by others before.

Most probably Fold but next gen where the SPen can be slotted inside the phone.
Ya, they cannot just cancel the Note series when they release S21U/Fold 3 that with SPen support but no SPen slot. The slot is what the Note users needed, not an extra cases to put the SPen.

S21U are not Note series though it have SPen. Ditto with Fold3. Both phone doesn't have full blown Note capabilities in handling apps with their SPen.

Because of proximity sensor. Whenever something is near the earpiece, it will disable the screen to prevent from accidental touch. It works like this for every smart phone.

If you getting a used Note9, make sure the screen is ok at all brightness level, it should be fine for daily normal use, just don't make it hot like heavy gaming, running benchmark or using gcam on highest settings.

Green screen issue is commonly well known now on OLED screen even S21 Ultra have it. Note 9 green screen issue mostly cause by the firmware issue which may permanent damaged the hardware. Replacement is costly if out of warranty. Although you may use OLED saver or PWMFree app to solve for the screen resolution permanently but the hardware damage is already done.

It still have Samsung Msia warranty. So, I guess it is fine.

Wow. Didn't know it's caused by firmware. What did the firmware do? Why other Samsung OLED also get the same issue? To be honest, I have own myriad of phones with OLED but I never own it long enough to get this issue. Didn't even know there's such an issue.
Coincidentally, my uncle has a S9+ and he claimed it has two issues: Overheating (battery bloating) and green screen. He said the green screen was caused by the battery bloating, probably hit the OLED panel. Now I think it could be the firmware?

And my trusty Note 9 also started acting up with the discoloration starting yesterday. Really bugging me with the weird greenish color. Sometimes it goes back to normal. So i'm not sure how long it will last
The green screen issue is a permanent damaged to the screen or bug issue that can be solved by future firmware update?

Based on my (and most other) experiences, when the screen started to go green, it's permanently a hardware damage. You might see the screen become normal at times (most of the times, when the phone is cool, but it'll end up become green as time goes by. Future update MIGHT not solve the issue.
After warranty expired, just walk in to change it lasttime.

Bro you can check back the previous post that we explained on the procedures and things to do before bringing ur unit in.
when's the last time any of u got free screen replacement (for out of warranty device)? I heard the program ended last June. last time i changed on may...
Previously, I was using gcam and setting the quality to high which capture a burst of 20 images in a row and merge them. This causes heavy load on CPU and heats up my phone a lot.

Just googled/youtube search a bit, seems like quite a lot of users stated their Note 9 and S9 series are having green screen after firmware updates. I'm surprised Samsung is yet to be sued!

I think not just 9 series. Upper high end series alsonada kene.
It is the cable which links both display and the motherboard it seems. It is too close to the cpu, so when the cpu overheats, it somewhat damages the cable which causes the green screen
if i were 2 depart note now maybe next phone will be the 22 then
PS : why i dont see linus ever complaining about his green screen problem then
Maybe his unit is snapdragon 845 which has better thermal performance? If not then what might be the possible issue? Will software update can permanently damage the display like that?

That's a mainstream channel. Not a real user. TBH, how long does he use a phone before putting out a review? lol Once he caught up with this news, he would purchased a phone with this problem.

The Note 9 was his daily driver for the past 3 years, he just moved to a Fold 3 as his daily when it launched. So I would say he didn't face the issue, if not he would have definitely brought it up.
I remembered back when the green screen issue starts to appear for most user at the same time.. I was on March 2020 after the March update. Mine having the same same problem too. But since March, MCO 1.0 already started, and Samsung SC all closed down..
More and more users seems to be having the same problem after that. With a few forums and website started to talk about it. There's also Telegram group (with hundreds, or thousand... i can't remember) of users having the same problem... Not just in Malaysia, also other countries

True I remembered I kena that time too, now I don’t bother to repair it and use it as DEX phone. If the phone not heat up and if I don’t use the power button to turn on the screen, and just by tapping the screen to wake it up, the screen usually will be ok, not sure why.
My wife note9 also bought same time as mine but her one is OK, knowing this is common issue I quickly ask her to upgrade and sold her note9 off for RM800 lol
I think not just 9 series. Upper high end series alsonada kene.
OK I managed to restore it using OLED saver. But since I have no reference display (before spoiled), I wonder how is the display quality after running OLED saver? Almost 100% same?
I think the battery on my phone is faulty. Woke up at 530 with 71%. Just did browsing fb, now 37%. How much does the battery cost? How long to change battery? Is there a higher capacity battery?

Current using Note 9. Probably gonna jump to Sony Xperia 1i used set.
I never bought new set coz I'm poor.
Sony phones still have microSD card slot and 3.5mm jack which I like, but then used set I never bought before, scared that the phone is a defect unit or not in good condition.

Haha my bud is the sony purist
Bought 3 sony for less than RM1000 each and its working great
His latest is powered with 855+ which is more solid than exynos 9800 series the 8s 9s 10s notes are powered

Seriously Aug 2020 reported but Jan 2022 only want to warranty? Common sense abit he even mentioned he send the phone back but he not even physically back yet, he should have sent it back earlier. Why wait until 2022? Isnt the border open way back?
Luckily i've done both my screen replacement out-of-warranty... I wonder if it's because the screen replacement programme has ended, instead of his warranty period.

They clearly stated “even after out of warranty” as they understand that he cant make it due to pandemic. But now they insisted they never mean it and now saying they meant within warranty period only.

Friend, everyone has difficulty to go back due to pandemic. Border was open earlier but not everyone can afford it.
And samsung malaysia has stated “even after out of warranty” and “no timeframe for this goodwill” If this happens on you, i believe you will think better word and be mercy on your comment.
But of course, I hope it will never ever happen on you.

Not two years though. 1.5 years and bro. If you check the border lockdown, it is until very recent month only open up and even now, many still struggling to go back to Malaysia.
And I think fortunately, you are not judge. That's all I can say.
It's been 3 years+ using Note 9. I'm still with it. Can't believe I stay with this one this long. Previously Sony Xperia Z3 own from 2015 - 2019. I think I'm gonna stay even a bit longer with Note 9 until its age affects my daily usage. Currently not tempted to any upgrade yet I can say I'm proud to own this Note 9.

still using. hahaha..
just that we know this phone once have top camera performance, i have another oppo find x3 in da house.. damn.. the image diff......
I've been holding up my phone update since last June... And for some unknown reason.. the phone updates itself...in my pocket... for November update last week... even tho i kept dimissing the update notification everytime.... And today.... voila... the screen got greener/worst than it ever was...
I already noticed the screen color quality already getting worse few months after i replaced the screen... but i don't really bother with that since now only using it as 2ndary device. but today got worse as the screen changes (green hue) with different brightness level...
Want to upgrade my Note 9 but don't know if should go all out for S22 Ultra or save some buck with Note 20 Ultra or S21 Ultra.
Dilemma. My main focus is S Pen and camera capabilities. But spending 5.5k for a phone is kinda hmmm. Think when I bought my Note 9 was around 3.5k ish if I am not mistaken.

I preordered S22U using EPP, got 20% discount so about rm1k off. Worth it for me since it is about 4k+ in comparison to note 9 price that u mentioned.. oh and i bought 2 years care+ JUST IN CASE..

No luck in finding the EPP list of companies. Always wondering if my wife in local bank is entitled (I know mine isn't because it is my own company, haha)
Looking at telco deals but now 512GB sold out, only left 256GB. Maxis restocked their 512GB preorders but now without the preorder gifts.
Only left Umobile haven't started their S22U preorder deals.

Please inform if you manage to get the screen replacement FOC. AFAIK, the free screen replacement program already ended last June.
Greetings fellow Samsung Galaxy Note9 users. I just purchased this brand-new in box, so I'm really, really late to this party. However, I seem to have purchased an imported set, and my seller on Shopee can't seem to tell me how I can update the phone to the latest update from Samsung. It's probably in the 6 previous threads that this matter has been addressed before, but my search-fu is not very strong.
Would appreciate any help in this matter. How do I go about loading a new firmware in the phone when OTA doesn't seem to work?

Welcome 2 the party
Snapdragon better than exynos surely
So your phone will easily last 1 day heavy usage
I rather enjoy the snappy SoT than worry about losing the latest update hahahaha
Hi, guys, I stumbled upon this thread when I dropped and cracked my Note 9 screen. Was researching on where to repair at the lowest cost, anyone has recommendations? Also, how much does it cost normally?
Curiously next, I see many of you guys mentioned S22U and planning to change to that...why ah? Is it the next natural progression or so happened to be a new product? Sorry, I don't follow tech and certainly do not know much about phones, except that I'm so happy with my Note 9, and been using it since forever.

you can try researching in sammobile.com.
i suppose can use Odin to load the firmware that is suitable for your phone's original region (for Msia set running Exshitnos, it's XME). yours might be different because imported set.

Try samsung service centre? Natural progression, yes i would say.. i still love my Note 9, and i will certainly miss the led notification, headphone jack and sd card slot for sure.

Oh what, no led blinking, the previous jack and SD slot? How can that be good :/ What are you trading them off for in S22U that makes it worth it?

New chip, new screen, 120 hz refresh rate, better camera i guess? Not to mention future android updates.. oh plus its snapdragon this time, unlike our current exynos one..

Yes, it's an Exynos, what can I say? The set originally came from Vietnam (XXV), however, the firmware is a multi-CSC (OXM) variant.
I guess what I want to know is whether or not I can flash a different CSC (exactly the XME version) rather than the XXV one, and aiyoh, I also dunno how to find the OXM firmware. I already downloaded the XXV and XME firmware for Nov 2021, now am just waiting to see if the sifu-sifu can confirm whether I won't brick my phone if I flash either one.

If you really confirm Vietnam firmware supports multi-CSC, then you can download XME(Malaysia) firmware and just flash it in download mode using Odin. Just remember to put the HOME_CSC file into the CSC slot instead of CSC file if you want to keep your data and settings, else it will format your phone.
Yea, I'm upgrading from N9 to S22U as well, will miss those features but then for headphone jack, I'm using wireless earbuds now. So, I will miss the expandable slot more.

Something about wireless earbuds that makes me feel less secure than conventional jack...cuz they still need to be charged, a jack gives me the confidence it'll work when battery is out, lol
Btw, I don't see Celcom having this bundle for their contract. I take it that there's no promo launch under this Telco and we have to just buy retail?

Need to double check with telco if there is still free gifts, saw a lot complaining because after they ordered, only the Lamy pen or what is available.
Hi, guys...so are most of you getting SS2 Ultra or the basic models? I don't know if there's any huge difference between them.
I was deciding between S22+ and S22U. The reason why I went for the latter is that it has WQHD+ LTPO display, 12GB RAM and SPen.
Other than that, these 2 models differ by its appearance(round corner flat screen vs square corner curve screen), display size, battery size, extra 10x optical zoom lens, 108MP vs 50MP main sensor, 40MP vs 10MP front camera and their weight of course.
So, if you don't use SPen that much or don't need it, just go for S22+. Unless you want top top specs for everything lah.

If no, then pay more 256gb + 12gb ram.
Thank you for your kind feedbacks, for my reference. Actually, I'm still happy with my Note 9, but cracked the corner screen, so this release made me think, lol... Ultra is so expensive though

Yea, Note 9 is still functioning great for my daily usage without gaming. I will still use it as my secondary phone in the future.
i do think change the batt is normal as other phones, but the sealed and everything...i prefer to change at samsung centre.
My phone battery about 3 years and 6 months... need to charge twice per day =.= Yeah i agree with u that changing the battery at samsung center will be better choice

Heavy usage here for work, need to charge 3-4 times aday now.
Green tint came back and the phone randomly heats up.
Still gonna use it until it kong . Cant be bothered changing the battery, just buy a new phone will be a better choice.
My last (accident update) was for November one… and now my screen already green. Would it be OK to update to the latest one… The update screen keeps bothering me 😂 😂 😂
Might be the kernel couldn't control the heat management during update, and our model has a defect where the display ribbon is too close to processor and what hence it overheats during update and probably causes green screen

During update it sure will get warm... that's seems normal to me. But sometimes what i faced is under normal usage also will get hot... reach 40 or 41 degree Celsius when i checked AccuBattery.
Can't remember the 1st incident.. But for the 2nd one, the green screen happen when I'm browsing Facebook.. All of the sudden the display turned green.. Cooling the phone down will cause the screen to be normal... but it'll turn back to green after a while...
But all 3 incidents happen not long after i do phone updates...

I ordered from Digi on the 4th of March. Just collected my phone from Digi SS2 branch. I took the RM120 plan, each month pay RM182 for 24 months. I chose the Green 512GB Ultra.
Size-wise, looks quite similar. Booking Sakurazz (another LYN-er) for UV tempered glass installation and phone case later. Used my Note 9 with the TP he installed when I bought it (during launching) and it has been good for so long.
Thinking if I want to order a skin like how I had it with my Note 9.

Wah no upfront payment for the phone? means the phone is only 182-120 = 62*24 = rm 1488 so cheap?

Haha, where got so cheap. Yes, no upfront payment since I am already a Digi user. It is RM182*24 = RM4,368 for the 512GB S22Ultra.
Each month is RM182 + RM120 to Digi but for me RM120 is covered by my company as phone allowance. So out of my own pocket, I only pay the RM182 monthly.

Owh hahaha okok .. same with my la my company also cover so i think of going 150 plan straight ... phone no sponsor so better i pay outright saja ... later bill got write phone included macam tak syok to finance

Haha. My allowance is also RM150 If take the RM150 plan only save RM10 per month for me in terms of my phone cost. I rather take RM120 + RM20 family plan (for my wife's line). Haha.
I am using similar casing from Spigen for my Note 9 and S22U but the S22U is definitely THICC-er and sharper corners.
One thing I miss about the Note 9 is the rear fingerprint sensor and iris scanner.
S22U with tempered glass not so sensitive with my fingerprint. And no iris scanner, only face recognition that doesn't work with face mask (as compared to iris scanner)

note 9 with case already hurt my pinky; support the phone when typing.
Lol, thought it's only me and pinky issue. My pinky has been feeling it for a long time, and based on the reviews with S22U, it's gonna be even heavier for me.
Hope to have more reviews and comparison with time to come for both Note 9 and S22U.

Haha, yeah. I also have the pinky issue while using the Note 9. And now it has to support the S22U which is heavier. But definitely my pinky area feels less comfortable because S22U has sharper corners
haha i estimate gonna use about 2 years when i bought Note9, but this phone is really a beast, smoothly tahan untill now 3.5years.
So i think it's time now
Yeah, same thoughts for me as well. Was going to get a Note 21 but they decided to not release a Note last year, so S22U It is for me too. But I am really missing the rear fingerprint and iris scanner.
Now still need to wait so long? I got mine from Digi (after the preorder period ended) and it took 4 days before they called me for collection (I opt for self-collect at their branch)

Wow that's fast What free gifts do you get from Digi ?
Reason i make the order on Samsung website is for the trade-in program + watch & pen free gift
you sure? then it is almost daylight robbery forcing the consumer to change something not needed. or attempt to just ask us buy new phone, no need repair

If only there's some discount to replace the screen. Wanna replace my cracked screen but don't wanna pay RRP which costs more than the phone's current value
Now that I switched to S22U, my Note 9 is left on the wireless charger playing YouTube (Premium) with the screen switch off. I don't switch on the wireless charger unless I need to. Become something like a docked music player in my office. Dual speakers on the Note 9 is quite okay for some study jazz music in my office.

I am pretty sure Note 9 don't have IR blaster, haha. But you left out another feature, the Iris Scanner which doesn't exist anymore at any current flagship smart phones.
lolz... that's why i asked. coz very sure dun have.
but yeah, it's still a good phone even without IR Blaster.
i think only CN phones still have IR Blaster

I asked them that they dont have oem. Only china original battery RM150. How is the battery changed by them so far?
IMO as long as after u changed the battery and can last for two years usage, totally worth it. By that time u can buy new phone d, and ur note 9 may still survived😉
Ive been using the phone as secondary device. Problem with green screen, half-solved with it PWMfree apps, so the phone basically usable. But today i noticed that the apps not functioning anymore. And despite that i kept rejecting updates, i just noticed that the current update of the phone is April (it still ask to update to the latest one)

You should really go change the screen if like that The ribbon cable may be "overused"
Like that you better get a temporary phone until s23/s22 fe launches
Currently just using the Note 9 as my backup phone. Using some other phone right now as my main driver. Thinking bout getting s22... but felt like still no the time of 'pricey' phone at the moment.

Yeah.. especially those 'flagship' level phone.. Every new version comes out.. the price will be higher than the previous generation... When Note 9 came out, the price is around 3.5 > 4.5... Now, starting price for S22Ultra already 5.2 for the base model S23 come out also price will be high...

True, miss those old days where 3.5k can get a flagship Android phone with lowest spec

In some sense you may think otherwise but for Me if you have buy aftermarket chargers (prolink, aukey, Anker, baseus, ugreen, etc) then the charger that you already have is more worth it

Haha i think my s20 charger can charge s22 ultra easily
turn on aod do the trick. atleast still can overcome the issue.
In some cases, it’ll do the trick.. most of the time.. it won’t. If you still wanna use the phone, i recommend you to search and download “pwmfree” apps. It’ll turn your screen better.
Hi guys . Note 9 new user here . Receive a refurbished unit and I have swapped a new battery . Everything is fine except I notice when I'm on wifi the battery is draining quite fast at certain percentage of the barrery. Already factory reset and updated firmware . On data the battery seems fine. Anyone face this issue before ? Just afraid if the phone is secreting sending data out to hackers lol
No la where got convenient hackers want your data Are you businessman/member of parliment/etc?
On a serious note, 8 and 9 series S###### is known to have bloatware that consumes battery Use ADB to remove unused undeletable apps
