Is unofficial Iphone that has been unlocked actually Legal? haha.. Okey Will there be any warranty if i ask my friend bought Iphone from US , and unlocked in malaysia.
I hv been reading bout ppl unlocking phone n used smwhere outside US..but no one mention if is there any problem doing so? QUOTE(ivantheterrible @ Sep 17 2007, 09:25 PM) I like to provide my input to clarify upon information about the useability of the iPhone in Malaysia. There are quite a few iPhone users already in Malaysia, employing various methods to allow the use of the iPhone with the local telcos. You do not need to have an AT&T contract to use the iPhone. You do not need to pay extra to purchase an unlocked iPhone - this can be done locally. All you need is to have a contact in America who can buy the iPhone and have it shipped to you. Pay extra for FedEx or UPS or DHL shipment. Do not use the normal US air-mail service, unless you want to run down to the Customs office to clear your shipment. I have been an iPhone user for more than a month now. The results? DiGi Incoming calls - works Outgoing calls - works SMS in - works SMS out - works EDGE - works YouTube - works WiFi - works at all public places that has hotspots (Airzed, TMNet, Time) Celcom Incoming calls - works Outgoing calls - works SMS in - works SMS out - works EDGE - works YouTube - works WiFi - works at all public places that has hotspots (Airzed, TMNet, Time) Maxis Incoming calls - DO NOT WORK Outgoing calls - works SMS in - works SMS out - works EDGE - works YouTube - works WiFi - works at all public places that has hotspots (Airzed, TMNet, Time) The iPhone cannot do MMS. The problem of no incoming call with the Maxis network is a Maxis SIM/network problem. I have - and so have a lot of iPhone users on Maxis - raised this issue with Maxis. For the moment, there is no resolution to the problem - either Maxis is ignorant or too arrogant to consider this as a problem. Only time will tell. Consider this when you want an iPhone, especially if you cannot or will not want to switch from Maxis to another telco. The software to activate and unlock the iPhone to use with any SIMs is freely available online. |

QUOTE(trixx316 @ Sep 22 2007, 05:48 PM) got problem wit pairing bluetooth wit other devices (phone,pc,headset) The bluetooth profile in the iPhone only allows for the pairing of bluetooth headsets. It does not pair with PCs or other phones. Not tested if it will pair with stereo headsets. There is no word from apple whether they will update their firmware to include other bluetooth profiles to work with other devices. Only time will tell.help?! wats the use of EDGE??hehe..noob question The iPhone is intended to be a constant-on device to the internet, either through WiFi or EDGE connections. That is why when Apple signs up a new telco, one of the conditions is that they provide unlimited data connections within their plan offerings. EDGE is a data connection protocol. The brief history of data connections for mobile phones is approximately as follows; GPSR >> EDGE >> 3G >> 3.5G (new HSDPA) Basically, from the slowest to the fastest, in data connection speeds. EDGE on the iPhone is a constant on. It will always check for EDGE connections and WiFi, and will give priority to WiFi over EDGE, when WiFi is found. This means that, if you are not on an unlimited plan, your iPhone will send and receive data constantly. Perhaps 0.5 to 1 k every few minutes, and this will eat into your Prepaid account. Currently there is no way to completely disable EDGE - although - it is rumored that this feature will be implemented in the next iPhone firmware update coming soon. For the moment, entering a wrong APN name will disable EDGE of sorts. This post has been edited by ivantheterrible: Sep 22 2007, 07:38 PM |

I have been looking for the software that could disable edge on hackintosh but couldnt find textedit thingy. Tried other things such as deedge which i found on google website, but had a problem half way through.
can anyone give me a specific url? Thanks. (I'm typing using my iphone hehe its pretty neat) Added on September 22, 2007, 10:26 pmNevermind, I found a way to disable EDGE. Just for future reference, whoever unlocks his iPhone and refuses to subscribe to any data plan, you might want to disable EDGE on your iPhone so that they won't ridiculously charge you per kb of data sent and received from your iphone. The steps: Using any GUI (contohnya Ibrickr atau textEdit on your iPhone. 1. Open /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist in your editor (Notepad) of choice. 2. Look for the string "apn". This will be followed by "wap.cingular". 3. Delete the "." in "wap.cingular". 4. Restart the phone. 5. When you try to connect via EDGE, it will fail. 6. To reinstate EDGE service, open the file again and insert the "." between "wap" and "cingular", then restart the phone. The end. Phew, now I can do my homework and watch football. Incoming calls being blocked may not be Maxis' fault. My wife's Hong Kong SIM card, which is 3G, doesn't receive calls either when used on iPhone. I have 2 iPhones here in Penang. We played around with the SIM cards from Maxis, Digi, CSL from Hong Kong. Only Digi can fully utilise all the functions of the iPhone, except the visual voicemail. We switched cards between iPhones, a Nokia and a Razr. Since iPhone is a 2.5G phone only, maybe 3G services do play havoc with the iPhone. Don't blame Maxis. Customers of Maxis can receive calls if they don't use iPhones to do it.
Anyway, I use Digi, so it works for me. Unless I can find a Maxis SIM with no 3G activated yet, it just might work. I'll keep you guys posted. |

I`m still wondering would the newly released firmware automatically install itself to the iphone when it connects to the Internet as most MAC systems do. Since I`m not a Mac user, I can`t say I know for a fact but some ppl have been telling me that certain critical files don`t even ask u for permission to download and execute. If that`s the case, with the new as-yet-unhackable firmware, wouldn`t it lock the phone again .... especially since Apple is sure to learn about the hacking of its previous firmware.
