If you have friends who have title like Datuk or Dr, do you address them using their title? Or just by their name?

Address them by title unless they insist otherwise.

By their names. If business related only use title

Rude or not depends on whether your friend thinks it is acceptable or not.

That's why I thought too..

I mean, even my uncle call menteri wilayah "wa" only not Tan Sri, it would be awkward to call my Dr friend Dr instead of his name. Feels like talking to a stranger.

2 scenario if u have to address that:

1) dia suka muka, kasi dia la, free je
2) hi bye fren, not very close fren

Title used to show prestige.

Because we were under Monarchy-based colonization.

King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Duke, Duchess, Lord, Baron, etc.

So we adopted the same with our King, Queen, etc.

But... it has lost its meaning over time as politics became all encompassing.

But angmoh will no address people like dato Lee datuk kho like that wor
