We have learned that the Telekom Malaysia website (https://www.tm.com.my) is now depending on Imperva (a cyber security solution company similar to Cloudflare) to protect its website from network attacks and for CDN services.
In case you didn't know, Telekom Malaysia is the largest Internet service provider in the country with connectivity to over 20 submarine cable systems, to more than 60 countries. TM also owns multiple data centres in the country.
Meanwhile Imperva is currently based in the United States. You may read more about Imperva and its history here- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperva
Our checks indicate that Imperva only has a 10G port with MyIX which now routes all local traffic to the TM website. In comparison, China based Tencent Global has a total of 300G bandwidth in MyIX.
We also noticed that Imperva is spelled wrongly as imPREva.myix.my by MyIX. It is believed that the mistake has not been corrected for about 3 months now.
At the moment, its unclear on why a Tier 1-connected, giant Internet service provider such as Telekom Malaysia would route its local web traffic to US-based Imperva servers despite TM itself is a major Internet hub in Malaysia with lots of bandwidth in the country.
We reported yesterday that TM has been making changes to its DNS configuration, causing its website to be inaccessible via International DNS servers. The problem appears to be intermittent until today
