Hi guys, i plan to build a kampung house on my dad's land. I do not have the budget to hire all this fancy contractor to build for me. so just doodle here and see maybe some people may be interested to do something like this on their land too.

Here's the sketch:

The build is about 9.6mx9.2m
The column height is about 750mm
The Grey wall around the build are existing retention wall built by my dad (the gap from the house is 1.5m for the rightside, 2-2.5m for the leftside)
The weirdly shape top is a louvre for passive ventilation, and the glass is to open up the space
Flat roof with waterproofing every 5 years, slightly slope and will add hidden gutter near the back. plan to build some rack and plant some succulent or flowers to resist a bit of UV.
Exposed conduit and piping so that it's all drama-free and easy to install/maintain.
Plan to use galvanized purlin to build the structure, and EPS cement panel for the ground, wall, and ceiling. it's all very light weight.

Land has a lot of slope, so not much flat land to do fancy design. Land area is under kk sabah. Im not sure whether they are strict on building a kampung house, but seems to me all the houses around this remote area is built the kampung way. i dont think they have any sort of approval. maybe they just pay some under table money to get it done and apply for electricity.

what are your thoughts?

Can also make use of the slope of your land to build split level rooms, not necessary all rooms on one level only

I would seriously consider a ridge metal roof based on previous experience with flat concrete roof which keep leaking and ponding water..

There is a reason why you see ridge metal roofs and so few flat concrete roof but its your choice

I actually have one space to utilize this idea. but i scrap it because it'll sure need a proper column and beam to build vertically. The calculation, the material, building it will also be difficult.

This is what i worry most. Are you an architect? how flat was your roof? let say if i pump the slope up to 1:15, coat with a cementitious waterproofing (ppl use this to coat their large fishtank), finish with elastomeric waterproofing, will it work? can you explain more about your previous experience?

Bro, unless you're retiring, dont come home. With our politic like this, im not surprise we will become indonesia 20years back. The surrounding country are catching up, you can feel it with the currency, you can feel it when you open your fridge and it's made from vietnam.

If you aren't making use of the flat roof as additional living space/entertainment area why are you having a flat roof in the first place? One suggestion is to build an awning over the flat roof for additional water protection and to make it a more usable area.

true though, I came back and stayed in MY for a full year in 2020, MYR not much buying power like a decade ago..
simply walk into speed99 to buy some grocery, end up spending more than rm60 with just a couple of things laugh.gif
it's either my standard subconsciously went up or something is wrong with the price increase..
seen my fair share of living in KK for 4 years, even a bowl of sinsuran san yuk mee went up like rm1 in a year, and every year increase like 50 cents or something, soon become luxury food laugh.gif

do share more about your build plans, approval, experience, etc..hopefully after 10-15 years, I can finally built my own retirement home laugh.gif

nice design!

i building my kampung house also in inanam. i suggest use steel for all the structure like beam, roof, door frame etc etc. cheaper+ faster . then can save man days. also can prevent termite attack cos kampung area.

you also need to include septic tank and tiang electric if you current sesb tiang cannot reach the house.

and lastly, you outside area must abit lower then your main house. to prevent snake . they usually will move along the wall, so if you are same level, they might go in. i got this advice while i was designing mine. never know it..haha

Not architect, i have a chargeman/wireman license doing supervision.

It was actually the pan Pacific sutera hotel back in the day and the flat concrete roof was leaking into the ballroom even when they did waterproofing membrane and the waterproof paint..

Probably because that flat membrane keep busting steam due to the sun not sure what happened after i guess they finally fixed it.. metal roof wasn't really an option due to the aircon compressor what not up there or they have future plans no idea..
However technology has improved so it is still a good option..

Might consider a metal roof over the concrete if you have the budget..

I have tried waterproofing paint on my house side wall that was leaking rainwater and its been good for about 5 yrs now..
