Hi all,

I just get myself a chinchila today.

Havent Give him a name. Mind to suggest some name for my chinchila?

He is a white mosiac costing me rm1350.

For food, i bought

1. Vitakraft MENU for rabbit (cereals, derivative of vegetable origin, vegetables, mineral, oils and fats)
2. Vitakraft Alfalfa Slims (nibble sticks for rabbits)
3. Bengy Alfalfa & Nilufar Alfalfa


For Sand
1. Vitakraft Chinchila SandySpecial

The food is recommanded by the Pet shop. Wondering izzit suitable for Chinchila?
Can i get pellet for chinchila in Penang?

I got it at CTY.

I went through Toby pet and CTY, they only had Junk food available.

I quickly stop the rabbit food and bought Chinchila food at Toby pet. Prestige (chinchila natural). But seem like also consider junk food.

Couldnt get all item below at CTY and Toby pet in penang.
1. Kaytee Forti-Diet Chinchilla"
2. timothy hay

The only item recommended by Chinchilas and available is the "Kaytee Chinchilla dust bath" at Toby pet. Do i need to stop the sand bath immediately?

I need to get the right food for my chinchila bc i am feeding them junk food right now. Does anyone in penang have extra stock lent to me while i finding a way to get the correct food?

this is temporary only until I modify the base using marble.

All sifu and chinchilas,

I had modified the cage base to solid type using solid top surface. All cloth material has been removed. The only thing left is the food and i will get it online as chinchilas suggest.

I wish i still have more blood to get the "M" cage. Need to wait until Dec bonus.

BTW, can anyone tell me what type of chinchila i own?

I was suprise that my Chinchila climb up from my hand to shoulder last nite. he climb up and down few times and some time sit longer at my shoulder. One thing is, he still not letting me to touch him.

My Chinchilla is having diarrhoea yesterday. I got information from (http://www.eotc-pets.com/health.html)

One of the best treatments is brown well done/burnt toast, the charcoal is good for the problem and helps dry up the Diarrhea. Give this a few times daily. Allow only fresh pellets and water for 24hrs (no hay or treats). If more severe sometimes it is best is to starve the chin for 12hrs, allowing only water.
Burnt toast, pellets and water for the next 24hrs. You can also allow your Chin 1tsp of yoghurt; You can give 2 or 3tsp of this during the 24 hour period after the starvation at various times during the day. Your chinny will love it as well as it helping to make him better. This helps balance out the bacteria in the digestive system.
Kaolin liquid (available from chemists) can be given daily, 1-3ml.

I am doing the 1st step now by taking away hay (both timothy and alfalfa) and feed only pellets and fresh water. Observed less frequents of Diarrhea and more solid pop. Is it normal or causing another issue of “Constipation”. BTW, am I on the right path or any other better solution?
There are many option of treatment, what is the best next step should I follow? Please advice.

This is really perturbing and I monitor him and clean the pop instantly until 2am in the morning. Plan to take a day off to take care of him but work load not allow.

BTW, as mention by Chinchilas, the food i have now is junk food, can anyone in penang lent me some Kaytee pellets while waiting online purchase delivery from chubby pets as recommeneded by chinchillas.

Meantime i am feeding them the pellet i seperate from the junk food from both Vatakraft for rabbit and Prestige for chinchila. (he dun like the pellets from prestige).

I rush back home during lunch to change pellet to timothy hay. Pray hard for his recover now.

I will take really really good care for him.

BTW, although diarrhea, he is still very active. Jump here jump there.

He allow me to hold him now, wonder bc he is ill or start keen to me.

I bought the rock from the pet shop. Dunno wat rock izzit. Normally they use for aquarium. Do i have to take it out and never use at all?

i have a room for him with 24 hrs ceiling fan, door open and dark (no direct sunlight). But noise from apartment above cannot be avioded. i scare of cold draft, but will it happen in malaysia since it all time summer? He sneeze and sometime make sound. Wonder izzit catching a cold or wat.

He always like to meditate at the rock for hours. Is it normal?

Seems like i still got a lots to learn about Chinchilla. i should done this b4 i got him.

His pop back to normal after consuming lots of timothy hay ..... Solid and dry !!! Its works !!!
but i still let him to rest "Kau Kau" 1st. Anyway, i am trying to clean up his leg that was contaminate by his pop during diarrhea. Its not easy though to clean without stress him.

I dunno wat to do without you all bc life experiance is better than book.

Hi all,

Finally i got my chinchilla a name called "n ö n ö" ®™.

Sometime n ö n ö still diarrhea, after a week of POP observation, i suspect it is due to overheat during the afternoon.

I installed a Hidrometer and thermalmeter at the cage and temp showed 29oC in the afternoon where n ö n ö usually had diarrhea and the POP went back to normal hard rock type during the night 23oC especially with aircond from my master bedroom.

All the while, the food has not change, the only variable is the temperature. The hydrometer showed the huminity ranginng around 65 to 75% which is quite stable with the "Hypoo" humit sucker. The variance is small, so most likely not the huminity issue.

My issue now is how to control the room temp at 24oC or lower. Probably to installed aircond when obtain dec bonus. Meantime will go with interim solution by getting the ceramic house and coolling pad from Chinchillas. But it will take 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. Anyone who have ready stock for sell in penang?

Pity him for grounded so long. Yesterday let him out d to explore my whole house. He can go back to his cage for pee and pop and went out again to explore. He even jump up to my cusion and climp to my shoulder. Hehe wonder where he learn tat.


BTW, i almost feed him timonthy hay for 2 weeks and it is time to give some Kaytee pellet or need to wait longer untill the diarrhea fully recovered?

Yeah, i follow the advice and turn on aircond. My apartment is small small only ... i open the master bed room aircond and let it flow to whole house.... just do tat to allow "nono" come out and play without overheat. Is not a long term solution bc it will spoil the aircon

Luckily i met you guys here else chances of getting overheat is high.

May i know how you guys hander the dust bath?

I got a dust mop d... tats how i keep the room clean. Will transfer to bathroom for dustbath from now on.

10. Paint brush for cleanning the pop.

I saw one pinky white at KL selling cheap at rm1000 but too bad it is sold before i went back to the shop the next day.
