What's your take in naming your website? It could be a personal website with monetization potential in the future.

Some points I'm looking at now:

Pro in using real name:
- Personal branding
- Closer engagement (interacting with a person vs with a business)

Cons in using real name:
- Privacy/Legal?
- Expansion possibilities such as partnership
- Flexibility to transfer ownership

Depending on the nature of your website, it might be a common name like: qrcode.com (taken), qrcodeonline.com (taken), or qrcode.online (for sale).
Other example like: onlinedisassembler.io (which disassemble executable program)

So if you have company name, say Wheaty Inc, you might want to register : wheaty.net (taken) or other domain name ending with .com (which is most common)

Unless the nature of your website does not fit any of the above, you can use your personal name (or nick name if you prefer).
More often than not, those using real name are public figures or well known person, like tutor, mentor, consultant, author, etc.

You can protect your WHOIS privacy although your domain name will reveal your identity (that is, if you use your full real name).
Just my own opinion, not from that of an expert.

I’m happy to be using Josh.my, though I’ve to say it’s terrible that Mynic until now has no private registration system. Used to own privacy.my but let it lapse, was planning to do a proxy system for registrations.

Though I’ve to say, maybe you can do both? If I were to start all over again, I might have chosen a different name, as I did get quite some good offers to sell my agency last time.

If you do choose to have your name though, hang on to it - and be wary of having too many partners. I’m sure you’ve heard of Jimmy Choo - unfortunately he no longer holds the rights to the “Jimmy Choo” label at all, it is owned by Michael Kors.

TS, have you make up your mind , which domain name to choose?

Real name or not?

A bit about myself, I think a real name (like on our I/C) is probably not too good, because it is too long. In the end, I pick my forum user name: fliermate.com (if you ever want to take a look).

The thing is I do not have any IGN or forum username.

To conclude my view: if it's for a specific/niche topic, I'd go for other names. If there is a chance of diversification, going for a real name would be more appropriate.

I would usually go for a brand name, works better.

Normally will go for Brand Name ba

but you can register more than 1 domain name then point to the same website anyhow
Domain registration cost is so low now
just register few that is related to your business then point them all to your website
