Which Dahon model are you comparing to the Tern Verge D9?
*
Just browsing randomly. Any models to recommend?

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Jan 7 2022, 07:34 PM)
the reason why joshua leave his father company (dahon) and form tern is the quality and parts used.

tern still maintaining good parts. dahon nowdays, groupset so so only. cheap option. but they still produce good frame
*
I see I see. There are really no good Dahon?

people will buy dahon brand. but if the distributor too lazy, i think many will go towards china brand folding bike. thats why our market here too many these brand. last time when dahon with rodalink, these problem didnt happen.

i didnt said that china brand fb not good, but people wont have the chance to feel one of the best folding bike frame and limited choices of bike
*
the chinese brands fit for mass market. And it's good for entry level. These days i see kids even riding Dahon here where i live. Cause they are more affordable. Not everyone wants to spend 3K - 5K on a bicycle.

Please update if you have gotten yours. And probably share some info from your scouting of a folding bike. I'm currently looking for one too. But don't want to spend too much on one which I'm only using it casually.
*
I probably won't scout so much lah. For me warranty and convenience and reliability are my main concerns when i purchase things. So im looking at brands that are already pre-made like Dahon or Tern. Cause they are reputable and have authorised dealers. The rest mix & match sets like Fnhon and etc, i am not experts so im afraid that i might get conned by people spinning spinning spinning.

just FYI, all those bicycle shop (tern dealers) that i contacted before, they all sent the same messages to me today. Tern's stocks are in already. xD

I know now USJCycles have stocks, just came in. But their prices are really high.

What stocks are available now?
*
Both shops notify me that the Tern is in stock now.
Kimbell Jaya did notify me that there’s a shipment coming in for Tern, so I guess all of them receive their stocks now.
I’m still considering to get it or not. XD

wow where did you cycle to? Do you cycle alone?

I just got my Tern D9. Very happy with it. smile.gif

It's also good for my mom who is in her 60s. She enjoys it very much cause it's lightweight compared to the big and heavy MTB.
Im glad that she could exercise more also.

oh no la. not the carry on bag. more like the bag to put on the bike while you are cycling to carry some of your stuffs like wallets and all.

also, does anyone use side mirrors for your bicycle?

The other day i woke up at 7am to ride around my house. super nice cause there were no cars! the only people i needed to be careful of are those road bikers. xD of course they are much faster but they always zoom past from my right side so sometimes i didn't see. almost swirled into one.

Early morning is your best bet since traffic is still light. I usually ride out by 6am anti-clockwise.

i realise cycling is so fun when you remove the stress from the traffic. Good for yourself and the vehicle drivers also. xD So wake up early!

QUOTE(lynnssssss @ Jan 25 2022, 09:01 PM)
Hi all - i'm looking for a folding bike as well, plan to pick up cycling to keep fit smile.gif, my budget around RM 3k.

After google around, seems like Brompton is high recommended. However when i ask around, seems like it is out of stock and the waiting list is very long. So want to get this also hard, i need to move to next option.

So i need some advice, since Brompton is the best #1, what is the #2 or #3 brand to consider? The most important criteria for me is easy to fold and not too heavy, i'm just a small girl with 48kg.

I tried to read most of the recent posts as well, Tern, Dahon and Pikes was mentioned alot - any specific model that u can recommend me?

thanks so much!
*
with 3K you actually have a lot of choices.

I just picked up a new Tern D9 2 weeks ago. Because well, like some other forumer mentioned here, it's better to just go for the best one instead of wasting money later to either repair, or get a cheap one only to find yourself spending more money to upgrade later.

When i was in the shop, I did speak with the shopkeeper and got to check out the other brands. True enough, brands like Dahon, Tern (didn't check out Bromptom cause they don't have), or the higher tiered TRZ (about RM2K+) their joints, body, overall frame feel sturdier. It somehow feels like they are less likely to break down or wobble or something like that. I reckon that's the most important part of the folding bike because if the joints break or are just plain fragile, i don't think you will enjoy your ride.

So imho going for Dahon, Tern won't be wrong. Brompton is more expensive i think? Like much much more.

I did see some people selling Tern D9 about 1-2 months old for RM3K only. Something to consider. smile.gif

I think some Dahon models or Tern B7 or something are selling for about RM2K or so as well.

Wow how many bikes you have la?

By the way I wanna ask ah, when I change gear, some gear doesn’t seem to ‘latch”’, like I can pedal one cycle two cycle and the third cycle it’s like the gear doesn’t catch (no resistance) or that it skips? I don’t know how to explain but I have to adjust the gear either up or down. Or is it stuck in like half gear (like 3.5 instead of 3) that’s why it works like this? I don’t know. I don’t think its supposed to work like this?

if ur using normal gearing, then u need to tune ur rd. maybe the cable a bit stretch out.

if ur using internal hub gearing, need to adjust the clutch chain

both need some tuning only

i guess i will send to them and check back and see. hmm.gif

Hey guys, for the default tern pedals. Do they lock the cycling shoes or I need to change them? Thinking to invest in one so that I can ride better also

They don't. If you want to invest in clipless pedals, you can choose either roadbike or mountain bike type.

I see, thanks! I guess i will try with some brandless one to see if it makes a difference.

put on a cadence sensor and check what's your average cadence first. perhaps you're not pedalling fast enough.

personally i average at 75rpm at flat cruising and that's my balanced effort, anything more i would tire out very quickly.

but apparently to many other cyclists, that is just relaxing makan angin rpm and told me i should get at least 90rpm constantly if i wish to get higher avg speed
*
Cadence sensor sounds expensive.
