I think it’s the other way round.
I remember my SPM paper in late 90s, it was called Bahasa Melayu.
Why change name to Bahasa Melayu?, Last time it was Bahasa Malaysia

QUOTE(blanket84 @ Apr 25 2021, 02:56 PM) It was changed by a staunch pejuang Melayu and pejuang Arab back in 1986 when he was the EM. Probably to “memartabatkan bangsa Melayu dan agama Islam (a.k.a Arabization). Yes Anwar changed it to Bahasa Melayu back in 1986One of the main reason I hate him because his introduction to Arabization was the key thing that deter non muslims from enrolling to SK. But Gomen changed it back to Bahasa Malaysia in 2007 ![]() 2015 text book ----------------- but who changed it to Bahasa Melayu back now? ![]() This post has been edited by JimbeamofNRT: Apr 25 2021, 04:24 PM |

Come to think back of it, just how foolish and childish those teachers are. Cukur ayam didnt end up bodo like them. .
Afaik, the 1957 Federal Constitution of Malaya(Malaysia = 1963) was drafted by the British Colonial Rulers in English and it states that the Malay language is the official language of the Federation of Malaya/Malaysia, not other languages. Nevertheles the other languages can be freely practised by Malaysian citizens. Also Islam is the official religion of Malaya/Malaysia, nevertheless other religions can be freely practised by the non-Malay citizens. When translated, Bahasa Melayu is the official language of Malaysia since 1963. IOW, Bahasa Melayu is the Bahasa Malaysia, not Bahasa Inggeris, Bahasa Cina/Mandarin, Bahasa India/Tamil, Bahasa Kadazan, Bahasa Bidayuh, etc. So, according to the Federal Constitution of Malaysia/Perlembagaan Persekutuan Malaysia, Bahasa Melayu = Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Malaysia = Bahasa Melayu. This is interchangeability and has nothing to do with Ketuanan Melayu or racism by Malays. Is the name "MALAYsia" also an indication of Ketuanan Melayu or Malay racism.? .
