my primary reason of getting apple tv 4k is for the atmos with airpods max. As a dad now, i can't blast loudly, so bluetooth is my only option haha.
i also have the shield, works well, but cannot support atmos via bluetooth..

Yea, same, going to be dad soon here, cannot blast my movie session sweat.gif

Apple TV’s Dolby atmos does not work over ARC. It only output through HDMI.

So your sound at has to be able to pass through Dolby Vision in order to get Dolby Atmos + Dolby Vision
*
Right now i plug direct to the soundbar then output video signal from soundbar to TV.
So far everything works well except:

1) Youtube app under Apple TV cannot do "Match content" so right now my default setting for the UI is set to 4k60 HDR sweat.gif
2) There is no VIU app for Apple TV (mainly for my wife's K-drama)

Others still under exploration.

My Apple TV 4K Gen 2 cannot do 3D Youtube clips to my 4K 3D Sony Bravia TV... Only the native YouTube TV (on Sony Bravia) app supports 3D clips. Is there a reason (if you know)?

It’s a pity they dont have the TVBAnywhere app on the TV AppStore too.

So HK dramas are out the window too.

It's funny that buying Apple TV give me 3 months apple arcade redemption instead of Apple TV+ XD

Good also since Apple TV+ kinda useless

hi all.

I finally upgraded my ATV 4 to ATV 4K after using it since 2015. I have some question if anyone here can help to answer:

1. My old ATV 4 is dead. No power. I tried to bring to Mac City service center but the guy said it is not repairable (if under warranty it is 1-to-1 replacement, no repair service). Is there any other place I can check?

2. I am using a quite old Samsung NU7300 4K tv. What is the best way to set ATV 4K? From what I read, I use 4K SDR 60Hz, enable content match. For chroma I set to 4:4:4 even though I have no idea what's the different.

3. Related to no. 2 above, how should I set my TV? I currently use the Standard settings. Previously I use Dynamic when watching movie (running from Netflix samsung app. because my old ATV4 does not have 4K).

Thanks in advance!

1. sorry bro, this one i have no idea unless self DIY.

2. chroma 4:4:4 normally for SDR, if you set to HDR, it will be 4:2:2 but depends on your TV's power.

3. TV display setting i think is based on user preference. Normally i would avoid Dynamic or Vivid mode which looks so fake. Standard with warm 2 (some is warm 20) is the best.
Other wise, you may use the Apple TV calibration : https://www.macworld.com/article/344476/iph...ion-how-to.html
Though it may not look 99% accurate but it's the most easiest method today.

Can we play Apple music - lossless from Apple TV 4K now?

I connect my Apple TV 4K direct into my soundbar and output image to TV.
I see there's an option to trigger Lossless under Setting - Music app there while there is no "auto"

But somehow once i change to lossless, it macam loss the ability to play Spatial audio cause my soundbar wont have "dolby atmos" source detected.

Anyone got problems streaming Disney Hotstar on their Apple TV? Every time I try to play some content, it says "Your account <number> does not allow you to watch this content on TV/Laptop" and then the app closes. But no problem on my other devices.

No issues at all, I just watched Eternals on my ATV4K yesterday using the Disney Hotstar app on it. Did the billing not go through? I remember I had an error when my credit card expired and I had to key in the new info at the time.

Turns out it’s a problem with using the Getflix DNS which I use to watch overseas streaming channels. I have to turn it off to use Disney Hotstar.

I believe not via wireless link but if the external HDD is on the same network and visible, you should be able to use VLC (Apple TV app) to open files on that.

QUOTE
Local Network Playback is for file sharing on a local network using Windows network shares or UPnP file discovery. VLC accesses media files in connected local directories. If you have an on your network, you'll find these when you tap the Local Network tab. Each one of your local network file shares shows up on the screen. Select them, select the share you want to play, enter any logins that may be required, and browse the files held there to your heart’s content.

When playing media, a swipe down on the Apple TV Remote gives you access to track selection, playback speed, media information, audio controls and the ability to download subtitles for the media, if available.

Another lower power option instead of running a full blown PC is actually using a NAS and have PLEX or VLC hosted on the NAS. My friend runs his PLEX and media hosting from his Synology NAS

I have another router set up entirely on ExpressVPN so whatever devices connect to its wifi automatically VPNed.

Maybe you can try this. Just get an AC86U solely for VPN, should be very cheap by now and able to hit up 200++ Mbps on LA Server.
*
Does the VPN method allowed me to view disney Hostar or Apple+ as US region ? Or i need a US apple id as well?

As disney + in US have imax and atmos format but malaysia dont have.
