Indonesian Harimau Tiger Medium Tank successfully passes firing acceptance test

February 2022

According to Defense Studies, PT Pindad (Persero) carried out a firing test for the First Article Medium Tank Harimau (Tiger) product on February 24-25, 2022 at the Infantry Education Center (Pusdikif) of the TNI AD Cipatat, West Bandung Regency.

The shooting test activity is one of a series of Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the Harimau/Tiger Medium Tank. The purpose of the firing test activity was to determine and ensure the operation of the turret with a 105mm cannon, meeting the requirements and the latest design specifications that received various improvements.

The Tiger Medium Tank is one of the government's 7 strategic development programs to increase the capability of the Defense Industry BUMN in building technological mastery towards the independence of domestic defense equipment. In collaboration with the Turkish company FNSS, Pindad has gained knowledge, experience, and references to international standards regarding tank development.

Previously, the Tiger Medium Tank underwent a series of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) which were carried out at Turkey's FNSS test facility on August 8-14, 2021. The series of tests carried out included 60% incline obstacle test, trench crossing test, braking test, 30% incline cross test, turning radius test, fording test, and various other tests. After undergoing various series of FAT tests at the Turkish FNSS factory (which calls this tank Kaplan in the Turkish language), the Tiger Medium Tank underwent further tests in Indonesia and focused on the firing test of the 105 mm cannon.

The firing test was carried out with a static Tiger Medium Tank position and a static target of 1,250 meters measuring 4x4 meters, using HEP-T (High Explosive Plastic-Tracer) rounds, and TPCSDS-T (Target Practice Cone Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Tracer) rounds. The first session was a visual test of the 105 mm turret to ensure that the integration and configuration of the latest design of the Tiger Medium Tank met the requirements and specifications. Testing is done by checking the working principle, barrel, aiming tool, features, movement until the buttons are functioning properly.

The second session was a test firing with the 105 mm cannon. PT Pindad (Persero)'s Industrial Quality 2 Manager, Suparno, acted as the Chief Executor of the Shooting Test Activity, giving the signal to shoot. The test began with shooting in a front-facing position, then proceeds to the right, left, and ends rearward. Each shooting position was tested using 1 bullet. The results of the firing test were that the Tiger Medium Tank successfully shot on target with the turret remained stable and all turret functions worked properly, according to the requirements.

ID is inherently unstable country.

Their law aren't base on western common law, there's no monarchs ideology or civil service to provide continuity of policy's from one administration to another,

So their plan is always changing rapidly.

Really? I didn't know that. I would imagine their constitution would have some influences from the Dutch one.

A handful of Malaysians staying put in Ukraine, join territorial defence army

Ms Fadhilah Daud (centre), the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Malaysian Embassy in Ukraine, with some evacuees.

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - While some Malaysians are being evacuated from Ukraine, a few of them are staying put at their homes in the country under siege.

Software engineer Karuna Krishnasamy, 29, one of the few remaining Malaysians in Ukraine, said he was staying with his family in the city of Odessa by the Black Sea, which is close to the area of conflict.

"I will not go to Moldova. I will stay here with my family," he told The Star on Sunday (Feb 27).

Mr Karuna said that the Ukraine military took out an enemy aircraft on Saturday.

"There are heavily armed police on the streets, and a curfew has been imposed. Civilians out after 11pm will be considered saboteurs," he said, adding that the city's occupants were calm yet prepared for any eventuality.

He added that it was only a matter of time before the Russians come for the city, which is a strategic port city.

Another Malaysian, who wants to be known only as Ahmad, 31, said he and his wife had signed up with the Ukrainian territorial defence army.

"We have been given weapons. We are staying put in Kyiv. This kind of nonsense needs to stop immediately. Today, it is in Ukraine; tomorrow; only God knows," he said.

Earlier, the last group of nine Malaysians and two foreign dependants were evacuated from Ukraine. They are expected to arrive in Malaysia soon.

In a tweet, Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said a convoy, led by Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Malaysian Embassy in Ukraine, Ms Fadhilah Daud, was received by two officials from the Malaysian Embassy at the Polish border on Saturday night.

"They are heading to Warsaw at the moment and are expected to return to Kuala Lumpur soon," he added.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv successfully carried out the evacuation of Malaysians and a Singaporean from Ukraine on Friday.

"The group left Kyiv by road on Friday evening and entered Poland on Saturday night. Their arrival at the Polish border was assisted by two officials from the Malaysian Embassy in Warsaw," it added.

A total of four cars were used to carry out the evacuation mission, including two embassy vehicles.

The ministry added that small vehicles were used instead of buses, after taking into account the numbers involved in the mission, to ease movement and maintain safety throughout the journey.

The statement said that the group was scheduled to leave Warsaw for Malaysia on a commercial flight on Monday.

Prior to this, 13 Malaysians left Ukraine on Feb 14 on the advice of the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv.

Raja Muda Perlis seru ATM terus perkukuhkan Pasukan Tentera Simpanan

user posted image

those are not new capabilities. SAF already have mobile bridges. That is a recapitalisation of a capability they already have.

Polish Navy chooses Arrowhead 140 design for new frigates

By Andrew Chuter Mar 5, 01:27 AM

LONDON — Britain has further strengthened its defense industrial ties with Poland following the March 4 announcement that Babcock International’s Arrowhead 140 ship design was selected to equip the Polish Navy with a new class of frigates.

The London-based company said it concluded a series of strategic cooperation partnering agreements with the PGZ-Miecznik consortium responsible for delivering three frigates from shipyards in the Polish port city Gdynia.

Babcock’s decision means it turned down ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems’ Meko A-300PL proposal.

Key systems suppliers in the Miecznik program are also starting to be announced. Thales UK, alongside its local partner OBR CTM, will provide the TACTICOS combat management system, while MBDA UK’s Sea Ceptor missile will provide anti-air capabilities.

Both suppliers are already part of the Babcock-led team building five Type 31 general-purpose frigates for the British Royal Navy using the Arrowhead 140 platform.

The detailed design and systems integration planning process for the Polish frigates is expected to conclude later this year, with construction starting next year and completion of the first ship in 2028.

The Arrowhead design is based on Danish company OMT’s Iver Huitfeldt frigate in service with the Royal Danish Navy.

“Poland is one of our oldest and closest allies, and we continue to strengthen our partnership to help deter future threats,” U.K. Defence Procurement Minister Jeremy Quin said in a statement following the design choice. “The Arrowhead 140 frigate will be a formidable addition to Poland’s fleet, providing world leading capabilities to Poland’s growing naval presence.”

This is the second export market success for Babcock in quick order. Indonesia last year selected the Arrowhead 140 for an upcoming frigate program.

just wanna ask do the russian navy still operate hovercrafts? from most utube beach assault training videos, can see most military just use amphibious variants of their armor or large landing vessel.

do you think realistically a hovercraft still useful in a modern amphibious assault? they kinda bulky, loud.

Following a four-year hiatus, the highly anticipated Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition and National Security (NATSEC) Asia series will be making a well-received comeback to the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre from March 28 to 31.

Since its humble beginnings in 1988, the DSA series has grown by leaps and bounds.

DSA 2022 is slated to be the first and biggest international event in Malaysia post pandemic, with more than 25,000 trade visitors from more than 50 countries and regions, as well as more than 350 foreign VVIP delegations from 45 countries and regions, including ministers and deputy ministers; secretary-generals; chiefs of defence forces; inspector-generals of police; chiefs of army, navy and airforce; chiefs of staff; director-generals of Customs, Maritime Enforcement, Immigration, Intelligence and Health; Joint Force Commanders and heads of Cyber Security Agendas.

DSA 2022 will also witness the participation of more than 1,000 companies in a display of the most sophisticated military hardware, electronics, sensors, systems and solutions of land, air and sea that the world has seen today.

These include cutting-edge technology in cyber domains, network centric warfare, border protection, artificial intelligence, battlefield healthcare, training and simulation systems as well as protection systems of critical assets.

Meanwhile, although still in its infancy and being held for the second time, NATSEC Asia is set to become a dedicated national security show by leveraging DSA's globally recognised VIP delegation management system.

More than 100 companies from around the world have conveyed their interest to participate in NATSEC 2022, bearing testament to the allure and benefits of the show.
