So fast! 1st day of V4 has reached 2page! sweat.gif S478 really kicking @ss! laugh.gif Haha.. 3.8Ghz will satisfy me already. Dont worry! Was hunting for better ram now. So can go beyond 3.6Ghz! Lol.. Hm.. How to read north bridge temperature in Asus board? Was wandering about this question. Btw, PI score was use to measure what? Measure the speed of ram?
*
Are you sure you'll be satisfied when you hit 3.8GHz? laugh.gif Let's see who gets there first, when my new RAM cooler and NB fans arrive in a few days time tongue.gif

So far now for my board, I dropped my RAM voltage from 3v to 2.8v, and tests that used to crash aren't crashing, gonna perform extra tests with Memtest86+ and extended Blend tests of SP2004 later on wink.gif After that it's time to lap the NB heatsinks, and replace the lousy Sunon fan laugh.gif

Is the NB temperature measured under System temperature?

lap the nb sink help the cooling alot? cool...... replace the paste as well. smile.gif

yup, is the system temp.
*
I've already replaced the paste with AS5, but haven't done any lapping yet to the heatsink. I'll post a bit of results if there is any smile.gif

Hehe.. Depend on the ram & procs as well. If can push higher sure will wanna go beyond 4Ghz! drool.gif Getting new parts? Thats great bro. Im searching for better ram as well. Haha.. Found Supertalent brand ram in garage. 250 for 1G kit include postage. Is that worth? hmm.gif The ram claim can run at 2-2-2-5 speed wo.. Supertalent or Teem extreme?

Btw, just tried with 3.61G and guess wad.. 10secs prime then restart me! mad.gif Seems my current ram really hit the wall..
*
Yeah I saw that earlier when I was browsing thru Garage Sales. smile.gif Seems good actually, but if you are planning to get a DDR Booster you might as well get some BH-5 chips to play along with it wink.gif

Usually 2-2-2-5 RAMs come in Samsung TCCD chips or BH-5 chips. BH-5 chips can be picky, so do test them out before you buy wink.gif

Yea.. Was thinking of take off either 1 pair of the ram and see how was it perform. Should be of the ram chip having problem to reach 241fsb. shakehead.gif
Yea.. Found on garage sales! haha.. Hm.. There was 3 performance ram on sales on the moment. Haha.. PQI, TeamExtreme TeemX, and SuperTalent. Was wander which 1  are better then grab it. All the price are in between 250-200 lidat. Hyper X? hmm.gif Heard that it wasnt preform wise wo.. Is that true?

By then was waiting seller reply about the ram. Hehe..
Ar... sweat.gif shocking.gif Still got such problem? BH-5 picky? What do u mean bro? Hm.. Then die lo shakehead.gif duno what type of ram to choose.. DDR booster just an option for me. Hehe.. Might wanna get it if the price is cheap.
*
I encountered tons of problems whenever I tried using my Mushkin 2x256MB RAMs with BH-5, even in using a single RAM stick.

It could be the motherboard that's giving the compatibility problems, but I used those RAMs in Nforce2 boards, namely the DFI Lanparty B and A7N8X Deluxe, which all had the same problem.

Just giving you a warning. smile.gif

Yeah, the PC cannot boot up and all, and even if you get it to boot, chances for you to overclock it is zilch. laugh.gif

It says in the BIOS updates that it supports Prescott CPUs. Installing a Prescott 478 should be fine. smile.gif

is it because u didn't supply enuf vdimm?
usually 2.8V can give a good BH5 to run 2-2-2-5@DDR440
Yeah, I read about those reports where BH-5s require 2.8v to start up.

But what's the use anyway, having only 512MB of RAM for my PC isn't enough, and if I want 1GB I have to pair it with KVRs which can't take strict timings, so there's not much of a choice. smile.gif

Does anyone know the reason for this?

When I do stress testing using Prime95 Multithread Edition, with the Large FFT test on, one thread would always fail within 30 minutes where as the other thread would go on as though nothing happened.

My processor is stable, raising Vcore did not solve the problem, same goes for the memory, which is also stable. Now currently I'm trying to raise AGP voltage to test, but I hope someone here has this similar problem and share their views on it. smile.gif

I also read that increasing AGP voltage might fry ATI cards, and I have changed the chips that regulate the voltage to a cheaper variant because I accidentally ripped one out before.

All the more for the card to burn. sad.gif

Yo pals... Here i am! laugh.gif Having same problem as u do.. That happened to me when i go over 3.6Ghz. Gromacs stress i face no problem. But when go for Large in-place FFTs sure failed within 3mins. Seems like the procs can been stress and not the memory for my system. My vcore was set to 1.85v, vdimm 2.85v, vAGP 2.6v. Still having the same problem. shocking.gif

P/s: Btw colin, which priority are u running on? Mine was on 10. Full stress..
*
I run mine at 9. smile.gif

I'm guessing it's a heat related problem. I'm gonna get my new fans soon, then I'll post back results. biggrin.gif

I might try pushing it again soon, but I doubt I could go anymore further since I want to stay with 1:1 ratios and insufficient processor cooling. I'll just see how it goes later. smile.gif

Ic.. Hm.. Atleast try to push the vAGP higher a little more. As for my mobo, need to goes above 1.7v then will get a stable prime process.. By then, my ram ratio drop. Will try to set back ratio back to 1:1 and prime agian tonight then tell the result.
*
It did stabilise my overclock when I tested it before so currently I'm leaving it max at 1.7v. What I'm just afraid is my video card that might just give up, and I don't have any wads of cash for a replacement sad.gif

I have a Thermaltake Smart Fan 2 laying around on my desk from my old TT Volcano9 heatsink.

I don't know if I should use it with in my casing, might use it as an exhaust fan but I'm just afraid about the noise that comes along with it. sad.gif

This just shows how a midrange card can trash a highend card two generations back. laugh.gif My 9700 PRO scores a little lower than fylon's.

Today I just got three 40MM fans running at 10,000 RPM from dj.eRicZzz. Two of them will be used as RAM fans, where as the single fan will be used on my NB. The noise is just really loud, but not till it's unbearable. Tonight I'm lapping the NB heatsink, and doing the necessary work, let's just see if this works for 250 FSB biggrin.gif

Yes correct,3.4GHz is the highest and yet is very hard to get it.

@colinwong89,10k rpm 40mm fans? That's is super noisy man.Why need to high rpm fans?I think is better to use bigger fan like 60mm or 80mm fan to blow on the RAM,much more silent. sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
It's the only size that can fit my RAM coolers. Furthermore bigger fans have bigger deadspots tongue.gif

Immediately after I reached home, I got the wires out of the back of the casing and laid it down to 'operate' on it. Removing the AI7 stock NB heatsink was no pain, I just had to remove the AGP card out of the way to make some workspace.

Studying the base of the heatsink, it was a real mess. The surface was really rigid and unpolished (should have lapped it in the first place), which was a real good reason to grab my sandpapers out for a good lapping laugh.gif Patiently I swept the base of the heatsink, moving to a higher grit after 200 moves, and did an extra 500 sweeps on the highest grit sandpaper I had for the mirror finish. My arms really ached after the ordeal biggrin.gif

After cleaning the heatsink up, front and center, and a good wipe of isoprophyl alcohol, it was finally ready for the camera. What could I say, it was all worth the sweat. icon_rolleyes.gif

My best shot:

user posted image

Once the cover girl shot was done, it was time to attach one of the 10,000 RPM fans to the heatsink. I never knew that the fan was that thick, so I had to dig up my collection of unused screws, and used 1" screws in length which came from my old Thermaltake Volcano 9. smile.gif

Removed the RAM cooler, took out the old rubbish fans and slotted the remaining Nidecs in. It just looked real badass and it now weighs three times it's original weight! shocking.gif

user posted image

Done was the rewiring, so it was time to test the mean machine. Switched it on, and OMG, I suddenly had a supersonic aircraft beside me. My casing is now even louder than before, not to mention the erratic vibrations coming from it! I expected it to be loud, but not THAT loud. With the high pitched sound that it now has, I immediately scrapped the idea to plug my TT SmartFan 2 tongue.gif

Haven't attempted to push the PC further, but it'll be done in a few days. Watch out fylon laugh.gif

I lapped it a month ago laugh.gif Temps dropped about 3C, which I think is worth the effort smile.gif
