The only thing thats too obvious is that leasehold property are way much cheaper and freehold property are expensive.
Anyone knows whats the pro and con of those 2 types?

QUOTE(donki85 @ Aug 27 2007, 05:32 PM) Myth. You don't own the land per se. The Government does. If gov wants back a piece of land (free/leasehold), they only need to recompensate you. What you have is you have the right to hold/use the land. In another words, freehold = free-to-hold, leasehold = lease-to-hold (for 99years, ex). |

Well, u'll own the land either way. to me free or lease is still the same unless u r planning to live there for a 100 years.

go freehold for landed, my dad's friend have leasehold land and renewing the lease can be a pain in the butt...
doesn't matter leasehold/freehold if high rise because a building won't stand 50 years anyway... no need to mention if its able to reach 99 years... |

Yeap agreed. If the government needs ur land whether its free or leasehold also no point. But of course freehold has its plus points.

if the state authority acquire your land when it is needed for any public purpose, then FH or LH is also subjected to the compulsory land acquisition. else if needed for other purposes than that (such as re-development), they can stop renewing the LH leasing but they can't acquire FH land through compulsory land acquisition.

Freehold will always be better than leasehold. The only advantage of leasehold is it is cheaper, thats it. For those that say leasehole is better, ask them: if freehold and leasehold is selling at the same price and same location, which they will choose? And lastly, which is the most important for me, it will be hassle free when you want to sell of your freehold unit, compared to leasehold where you need to wait hell of a long time.
