Myth.

You don't own the land per se. The Government does. If gov wants back a piece of land (free/leasehold), they only need to recompensate you.

What you have is you have the right to hold/use the land. In another words, freehold = free-to-hold, leasehold = lease-to-hold (for 99years, ex).
