Can I assume Disney+ Hotstar and Disney+ are two different thing even though they offer similar content?
What I see is they use different app and maintain a separate customer database.

Disney+ Hotstar seems to be the version offered to developing countries such as India and Indonesia and Disney+ Hotstar account cannot be used to login into Disney+ and vice versa.

For those who uses Playstation 4/5, Disney+ Hotstar support won't be available.

Yes, you're correct. In fact, Disney+ Hotstar also offers local and vernacular content. Although, it's kind of a bummer that it only supports HD quality and up to 2 devices concurrently.

Ahh...that's a bummer then, i also believe Astro plays a part in determining the pricing for our market since they have to "protect" their own subscribers & rice bowl considering the fact that Disney+ Hotstar is available at a much cheaper rate in India and Indonesia

Indonesia - Rp 199,000 per year - approx RM56/year
India - Rs 1,499 year - approx RM89/year

Malaysia RM54.9/3 months = RM18.3/month - RM219/year doh.gif

I wished they had similar subscription plan like netflix instead of trying to segregrate them into different market using different app

Ya that's what I meant by astro protecting their rice bowl and also preventing their current subscribers from leaving astro
If the disney+ hotstar standalone subscription price is cheaper, many would have considered leaving astro for good

Disney+ yes (2016 onwards)
Disney+ Hotstar not yet (but the FAQ on the india site seems to indicate it's available for 2018 or newer TV)

In India both LG and Samsung supporting Disney+ Hotstar as native update.. kind of bad planning when it's 1 year waiting

These 4K movies will also include Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio enhancements but unfortunately, they can only be viewed through the Disney+ Hotstar app on Apple TV and Android TV devices.

Speaking about devices, Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia can also be enjoyed through the second-generation Chromecast with firmware 1.43 or newer. For those who are using Android TV device, they need to make sure that it has OS version 7.0 and above while the service is only available for fourth-generation Apple TV and newer with at least tvOS 11.

If you are hoping to catch Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia via game consoles or smart TVs with in-house operating systems such as Samsung Tizen and LG webOS, you are out of luck for now. This is rather unfortunate as these devices are supported by the stand-alone Disney+ service in markets as the US and Singapore.

Yea, Disney+ Hotstar seems to be the neglected child when it comes to device support

I wished we had the option to subscribe to the standalone Disney+ service in Malaysia (without the need for VPN)
Or at least allow login for both Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar app using the same account so we can use the already available Disney+ apps in game consoles/smart TV
