Giga boards kinda finicky with the bios. u re better off with MSi or Asus. Remember Z690 does support Raptor with a bios update. so u got lot's of choices if z790 proves too expensive.

AMD is no longer a value platform with the 7xxx series.
At least there's still ddr4 support with raptor lake. and there's 2 generational of boards to select from.
For all intent and purpose, majority of users should be sufficient with Raptors.

A lot of ppl (incl. reviewers) still do not understand how intel cpu behaves. If u let the Cpu consume max power in the bios, then of course the results will be skewed (meaning hot and hungry).

If u continue to listen to those stuff in the media/social media. That is TOXIC. so much that so that it clouds ur judgement.
Whinging on those things not gonna get u anywhere.

Ppl in US/EU has its own living cost structure. so it's not comparable. And even each West/EU individual countries has its own problems and issues. So it's not smooth sailing there as well.

10-15K spend in PC parts here is manageable provided (finances) being planned carefully. And careful selection of parts.

Tried out a new budget build during Cny. Using an asrock B760m sonic pg mobo. Not bad for this mobo. Has 3 nvme slots but has to give up the 2nd pcie 16 slot for the 3rd slot. Clean looks and vibrant bios (better than giga). + It supports bclk oc & comes with dual 8 pin CPU connector.
The only downside for some, it's ddr5. No issue for me since I have a spare ddr5 kit lying around.
(The nearest competitor will be the strix b660m-g, but it's more expensive for the Asus)

Go for the sonic instead. No issues with Trident Z 5 heights. Cos I m re-using spare aio with this one. Also I have a spare set of thermaltake sleeved cables (black/blue), a nice match for this mobo.

that's good news. those already on Alders ought to skip Raptors and wait for Meteors. Cos for most part, both are the same family.

Well, I used to have both amd & Intel at the same time. But Amd platforms sucks in quality and consistency.
U can't trust those reviews and what they say. Cos they always assume "BUGS" will be fixed out. In reality it's different story with amd.

U just have to try one and if u re unlucky enuff to end up with a lousy silicon. Then congrats to u.
Plus minor platform bugs that are nuisances. (some might not be fixed by Amd despite the promises)
(Previously bought a 5950x and it Bsod at idle in windows and this is at stock settings. Ended up returning the cpu+a high end mobo to the retailer). So i m now all for intel now.


Added: Build a new Budget gaming system lately out of some new parts and some spare at hand just to see what it can do. U did be surprised what a modern i3 Quad core still can do nowadays, especially if u pay less than 400 bucks for it.

A 12100f (can be found at some shops at less than Rm400)/13100f , B660 mobo D4 and a Rx 6600 (Rm999 now, abt rm2200 a year ago) will suffice for those on a super strict budget. Pair it with a fast nvme drive and good Rams.

The above runs pretty cool and do not require much cooling fans.

What do u mean by isn't much more expensive ? It will mean a LOT for ppl on budget. 12100f less than 400 , that 12400f abt 700+ bucks. That's 75%++ more to pay out of pocket.

Bare minimum - 12400f

Very attractive - 12600kf (same price as 13400f), unlocked with higher boost and tdp

Mid-range - 13600k/kf

If u luv to tinker around, 12600kf is the answer. pair it with a entry level Z690 (MSI)
