My teacher using the string call Ernie Balls ... Not bad ... I played with his bass...Nice to slide
*
i've tried ernie ball, fender and d'addario.

ernie ball sounds good but doesnt last long. it rusts quite fast.

fender and d'addario is much better in lasting long without rusting.

to save money, must keep the strings longer lor :shy:

QUOTE(lordie @ Oct 15 2008, 11:25 AM)
but coated strings lasted so much longer,.... i am using DR black beauties..last like forever.

Added on October 15, 2008, 11:54 am

the main role of a bass player is taking care of the bottom end and make the rest of the band members sounds good. ;p once that is done than maybe can slap show a bit here and there.
;p
*
really ah? how much are the DR's ah? maybe worth more la like that. maybe coz i sweat alot when play. coz i keep the bass after i use in the case wan wor.
lasts about 3months sounding good, after that starts to lose its shine. how long does yours last?

er biggrin.gif the main role of the bass is to groove with the drummer!

most guitar shops will sell the liquid thingie to protect strings. Just ask them for string cleaners.

You can probably get fastfret too, since it both lubricates and protects the strings.
*
i think its called fast fret. i have that. it keeps the string nice n smooth n also protects it.

QUOTE(signither @ Oct 19 2008, 06:36 PM)
thanks.. how about for cleaning fret.. anything chemical in particular??
*
do u mean cleaning the fret board or cleaning the frets itself?
my friend taught me how to service the fret board. put a lemon based solution to give it a new shine. haha it really works. the wood looks better after applying.
for the frets, maybe u polish it all with brasso or something. to get rid of the dirt n stuff biggrin.gif

U can get a DR high beam set 4 strings for rm105 from js music

anyone here knows where to get gotoh bridge? since sujesh ran out of it tongue.gif
*
is that the cheapest range? my bass is a 5 stringer. damn extra strings makes it more expensive to maintain rclxub.gif

anyway, time for me to get new strings already. mine totally sucky sound. other then DR, what else should i try out?
i've tried ernieball, d'addario, fender, goodstring (sweat.gif) .... any other brands?

QUOTE(foogie @ Oct 20 2008, 06:33 PM)
im not sure if that's the cheapest range, but i consider that very cheap for a set of dr. the 5 string version would probably set u back around rm130. but it's definitely worth it. considering that im using a rm75 daddario prism that only sounds bright for a little less than a month. after that, dead strings, brader! if u dun mind dead strings like some of the forummers here, then go for daddario, no offence to bassix, the daddario fan tongue.gif.

dr's brightness would probably last more than 3 months, sometimes 6, reboiling it after that would return the brightness for another month or 2 months.

a lot of shops in malaysia dat don't have dr would recommend rottosound, anyone tried that before? they say it's quite good, rm90 for a 5 string set if  im not mistaken.
*
well i dont mind dead sounding strings as long as they last. if i'm not mistaken, i bought my current strings in dec last year. that means they lasted me for about 10 good months before they started being unplayable. i guess if they last long its good. how long does DR's last? i dont mind trying. coz u never try, u never know right?

and btw, what do u mean by reboiling? really boil it? sweat.gif that sounds scary. i think u better teach me first before i attempt such things. haha.
rm75 for 4strings i assume? where did u buy it btw?

prism discontinued model already, if i'm not mistaken, but you can still find them in quite a number of music stores in malaysia.

they are wat d'addario call as the brightest strings on the market. well, after a week of usage it's definitely not tongue.gif.

btw, nimrod, have u sent ur bass to tham before? smile.gif wat bass are u using?
*
i think i've used the normal ones only. must go back n check whether i have the packaging or not.

sent to tham? whats that? sorry ah abit noob.
me poor man. only got yamaha rbx 5stringer.

actually it's not advisable to boil strings. they'll get brittle. i suggest soaking the strings in spirit. it cleans the strings really well with no ill effects. i do this quite often and yes, it does make your strings twangy again. do try yourself. i learnt this from the web smile.gif
*
hmmm okay. at least some experienced advice laugh.gif
what sort of spirit did u use? the one that can be purchased at any hardware store?

do u have to remove the strings then?
