Land battles are still pretty "familiar" from the previous TW or other games even if the new era made some pretty big changes from the other TW.

I enjoy the naval battles a lot but only with few ships on each side otherwise it becomes pretty messy for me until now.

yeah...also if there are too many ship...the game may lag a lot for some people...naval battles online require the introduction of house rules...in other words...we have to introduce our own rules to restrict how many ships etc...that is the problem right now...if it is 4v4 and I say 2 ships a side...and one joker brings in 10 ships...laaaaaaag! doh.gif

Also I was playing with fujkenasai the other night and my fleet was mostly second rate and his were faster ships...He could have essentially sailed around and my fleet will never catch up...it is impossible. So probably have to set rule that can only have 2 third rate and above...

Oh yeah...not to mention that you taking potshots will probably just translate to just a small scratch on the big ships. The hull on the second rates are damn strong! It is like a Kancil ramming into a S class Mercedes. Either way you get destroyed...badly...

Which frankly...may actually be realistic....If you look at the history of the region, you will know, India had its influence through traders. The early civilisation over here were Hindu empires. Pre Islamic history is an often ignored part of our history tongue.gif Also note that the first Islamic government of Melaka was led by an Indian prince.

If you learnt from experience...you would take CA's time frame with a pinch of salt...Note the time frame for the Empire demo(coming soon) and the insanity it created...lol

What's important is they are working on it. They already spent nearly 5 years working on this game, they will update this game(and engine) as often as they can.

Some observations:-

1) Need to check whether it is possible only to join spectate WHEN the match is underway.
2) Mortars are imba! Many people are banning them.
3) When playing 2v2 we need to restrict army size...not unit size...playing with small unit is flawed since you wont be able to use proper formations(square wont work).
4)1v1 no problem...but 2v2 probably have to split army size by half.

From the start the prussians were in a disadvantage. Starting from the bottom of a hill...this prussian general got desperate and was firing canister shots...even with his troop in the way...he did well though..In the end a victory was denied for the french when Gormaz crashed...lol..This ones JackReaper(prussian) vs Gormaz(french)...

There were many more battles and many other people taking part...i couldn't take many screenshots...damn...Empire needs a screenshot facility! Xfire seems to crash the game for me...

Gormaz, you have an unhealthy obsession with ze french.. doh.gif

I think it's better that way...let them put more fixes into the patch. Now after the multiplayer match...I hope they have an update for multiplayer(probably will come later)...we need small funds + in game screenshot! Man the World In Conflict broadcast tool was amazing...I don't think can get anything like that for Empire...

PS : Sorry...I promise I won't make any more jokes of the French... tongue.gif Par le vous Francais?

For me I just wish they would be a bit more communicative and not put a 4 lines message on Friday evening telling us they will update us "early next week" while the week before they said the PATCH will be out earlier last week. A bit more up-to-date communication would go a long way in making me wait more patiently.

So for now I feel:

- the "by using Steam we can release smaller patch very easily and very frequently" slogan they gave us is now kinda mock

Well you know the English....a bit bureacratic tongue.gif Yeah you have a point. And they did say they can put out more patches more often. But you must also see their working culture. I don't expect them to automatically become Valve(which frankly is no better than them in terms up keeping to a release date). They have been CA fix bug release patch for testing...send to SEGA send to Securom...then get clearance from SEGA then post update...for so long...

haha...actually i started using a new strategy in battles...I call it the modified square...I march my army in formation and place cannon in the center. This way when i reach the enemy position I move the front infantry rank to the side to give LOS for the cannons...and then KABOOM...canister shots...= massive pawnage.

There is also another type of shot that is a canister shot that is longer range(forgot whats it called)...the canister basically break later after it has left the barrel. Similar to like how a TOW misille works.

I agree round shots are mixed...only use them to take out entrench units in buildings. Cannons work great when you use these abilities and give them protection.

PS : Try to think of new ways of deploying them...don't think of them as the long range cannons that pawn units from far distance. This is the 18th century after all tongue.gif No laser guided missiles... Mortars however...now that I have a problem...they need to tone down their effectiveness a bit.

Some people will still have their game crash. That's just the nature of how total war games are. Look at Medieval 2 Total War...there are still people posting crashes...after 2 years...I know there is one crash bug still in M2TW(Kingdoms solves it).

The point is that...they try their best to rectify the major issues...and will continue to do so...but to expect them to patch every single bug is also not realistic...The fix list looks promising...and its a start...

PS : Not everyone are having crashes because of the same reason...tracking down the offending code and 'fixing it' is a long and arduous process.

NOTE : I have found that there may be a conflict with xfire. In all 50 hours of playing Empire I've had two crashes from the multiplayer lobby(not when loading anything...without warning from the menu) when I've had xfire on. Something probably you guys want to keep a note off. I've had no crashes without xfire running.

Yeap looks like an issue with Xfi...try changing the sound to windows default for now(in game sound option)...I'll see if I can get more info about it

After more testing...i can concur that even on my machine the sound is definetely something wrong with it...firing muskets sound like machinegun sometimes(it doesn't sound normal)...naval battles when zoomed out can't hear cannons firing at times...

Its a small problem...no issues...they will probably hotfix it since they know what they changed...but on the good side...they fixed the water rendering on land battles(some people had that)...I feel the engine seems to perform a bit better at places...

I dont use Xfi...Sound is not normal for me too..its not as bad as for some people that are reporting no sound at all...

Make sure you are on a good IP...It does take a while...reports have it that a better internet connection helps at this stage of installation...i personally have no idea...i'll try to dig around in steam support on this

Okay so CA has hotfixed the sound issue as expected...I got a surprise this morning when i booted up Steam...Empire was missing... doh.gif Ok so deleting clientregistry.blob always does the trick...

so tonight multiplayer tongue.gif see you all in the chat room
