In light of the ADATA 8200 Pro downgrading, what's the go-to alternative for the price vs performance sweet spot with NVME drives? I presume the HP EX950 since it has a similar controller etc to the 8200 Pro?

Looking to buy a 500-512GB NVME drive, with an eye for general performance and lifespan within RM400 or less. Avoiding ADATA due to all their stealth downgrades with the SX8200 Pro. I have a HP EX950 in another rig that works fine, anything more worth it than that HP drive that I should consider?

check out TristanX's suggestions at the top of this page. more worth it or not, you can compare their respective specs and make your own justifications.

i think transcend mte220s is good. on paper, it's very similar to hp ex950, except for mte220s having higher endurance ratings. again, these are on paper, so it's up to you to decide.

edit:

out of curiosity i checked out mte220s for chipset part numbers for ram/nand/controller. for 1tb model, mte220s uses samsung ddr3, and micron's nand, https://elchapuzasinformatico.com/2019/12/r...s-ssd-m-2-nvme/ (ram part number is K4B4G1646E-BYMA, https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/...4B4G1646E-BYMA/ )

however, for 2tb model, it has samsung ddr4, and transcend rebranded nand, http://www.vmodtech.com/th/article/transce...review/page/all (ram part number is K4A8G165WC-BCTD, https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/...4A8G165WC-BCTD/ )

i just post it here for reference. it's no wonder why they didn't put anything about ram cache in their specs.

I checked my EX950, it's using Nanya DDR3, IMFT NAND, same SMI controller as the original release of the SX8200 Pro.

Will keep the MTE220s in mind.
