I see...

I did read this up a little and it seem SSD also not suitable. Just being used to swap plot that are to be written into HDD later since HDD is much slower. I wonder if internet connection speed also play a role.

Now consumer market will learn why tf enterprise customers pay a huge premium for enterprise class NAND and SSD... difference is night and day for same capacity point. Need to look at the DWPD metric.
Basically the NAND endurance levels are much higher for enterprise grade. I foresee there will be a cottage industry among smaller players to plonk enterprise grade nand into standard consumer SSD designs and market them for Chia mining usage

normal consumers won't even think of what's in a enterprise grade stuff. consumer variant of optane series been available since 2017. Sadly it's been discontinued.
they will be turned off once they see the price. But it's crazily godsend type of endurance u re getting AND build quality is superb.

The overwhelming tech superiority of optane had basically evaporated because they couldn't scale cost effectively.

there is 1 interesting oem nvme ssd from dell.

they cut cost by replacing the controller from gen 4 to gen 3.

samsung pm9a1 under 1tb oem for dell. (2tb is gen 4)

Typically OEM have the clout to specify what features they wanna add or remove to optimize for the cost / target market. The X box also uses custom ssd not found elsewhere

looks like it's gonna be a trend for ssd, cutting down on endurance to save cost, especially on newer releases and models.

my take is BUY WISELY. It's better to buy some of the older models with better endurance. Most of time not gonna see any real world speed differrence.

The reality is that majority of people outside of gamers and crypto miners seldom challenge the limitations of their system. While it is true that endurance keeps getting worse at the NAND level ( it has been for the past two decades), most of us will not have to worry much if we are just doing normal office productivity stuff and casual gaming. Even the cheapest SSD will last the life of the system if you are just a regular office user.. The Chia cryptocurrency unfortunately, is one of those things that will ruin your nice new SSD if not careful. Only a matter of time before more SSD manufacturers release chia ready SSD with ultra high endurance
