Might as well use HDD better. 3 years still 100%.

Which good SSD good for OS drive ?

What do you expect from a DRAMless drive with low quality NAND and controller? laugh.gif

Go for a quality one like the Crucial MX500/Samsung 860 EVO tongue.gif

yes, warnings have been given repeatedly afaik. i'm not sure why people still don't get it.

in a typical nand-based ssd, dram is an essential component. taking this away from this optimal equation means something has to be used to replace its roles. in dram-less ssds, this means nand itself will be used to do the jobs of dram. of course it will work fine, but the side effects are also obvious.
*
There's also the issue of write amplification, which is very common on DRAMless SSDs icon_idea.gif

Hi, can recommend ssd with rgb blink blink effect? Mine just died suddenly yesterday..

Nvme form. For os drive. Budget less than 500
*
I don't recommend RGB SSDs due to potential overheating concerns (see: HyperX Fury RGB SSD) icon_idea.gif

Also, RGB LEDs + M.2 NVME drives (which can get quite hot) = bad for thermals IMHO icon_idea.gif

Note: The PNY drive is a double sided drive (which mean the chips are on both sides of the PCB), which may not fit on certain laptops (usually those slim and light models) icon_idea.gif

Which is why is tempting. If packaged properly and work properly

My other option is buy gen4 nvme (way cheaper than 970 evo plus of our shops) i. E aorus gen4 or mp600 2tb at 1.6k

Why our shops sell 2.3k T_T

Samsung drives are overpriced here, so just go for other brands instead tongue.gif

I want to upgrade to nvme ssd by using ssd adapter as well as wifi6 adapter..  Can i use those 2 pcie slot in the pic (lite blue)?

Those are PCI slots, not PCIe slots, and so the SSD adapter and the WiFi 6 card will not work on it icon_idea.gif

Note that the white and black PCIe slots operate at PCIe 2.0 x8/x4 respectively, if you have a discrete GPU installed on the first slot (i.e. the dark blue PCIe slot) icon_idea.gif

The white PCIe slot will run at PCIe 2.0 x8, which gives you a theoretical maximum of 4GB/s speeds (or equivalent PCIe 3.0 x4) icon_idea.gif
On the other hand, the black PCIe slot will run at PCIe 2.0 x4, which translates to a maximum of 2GB/s speeds icon_idea.gif

Do note that PCIe to NVMe adapters may not work properly due to the BIOS may not handle booting from PCIe storage correctly, and you may need to use certain tools like Clover UEFI to work:
https://www.win-raid.com/t2375f50-Guide-NVM...der-method.html

That being said, a WiFi 6 adapter should work fine as long as you have the correct drivers for it icon_idea.gif

Tqvm master.. So i only have option with normal sata ssd..

That's perfectly fine, as the real world difference between SATA and NVME are not very large to say the least icon_idea.gif

which 2.5" sata ssd has the best endurance?

What's your use case that demands lots of drive writes? hmm.gif

For most users, something like the 860 EVO or the Pro should be fine, unless you want to pay high prices for those enterprise grade drives icon_idea.gif

Hi all,

I've just purchased the Dell Inspiron 3891 desktop which comes with 1TB HDD.

Plan to buy a SSD, mainly as a boot drive (no gaming or any graphic designs, mainly work, surf, video, music).

Can someone give some recommendations? Really headache already after reading a lot and there are just so many brands/types out there.
- I guess 500GB should be just right? Actually 250GB should be enough but I thought that might be a bit low
- Wish to buy some more reliable/ durable SSD, but have no idea which brand to go for
- Below is the available slots from Dell, I guess I should go for M.2 PCIe NVMe?
- Not particular on budget, maybe RM 200 to RM 600, but guess I don't have to overkill and get some high specs/speed SSD?

Any guidance is very much appreciated

Something like the Corsair MP510? hmm.gif

For SSD, minimally you should aim for a 250GB drive, but for some breathing room you should aim for a 500GB drive icon_idea.gif

DRAMless NVMe is still fine (there are good DRAMless NVMe drives like the SN550), but DRAMless SATA is a big no-no icon_idea.gif

Yeah, I figured that was the issue.

I’m using the adapter in the image below in the ROG ALLY to install a 2280 M.2 SSD. The problem is that the NGFF connector is too low, so I can’t fit any heatsink.

I found a way to raise the height by swapping out the NGFF connector, but I don't know how to solder. Gonna need to find an expert for that.
You guys know anyone? biggrin.gif
