gen 3 and gen 4 generally have the same loading time for windows. for games hard to notice......just a small differences... hard to notice
few videos in youtube..

Direct storage is only for gaming, for win11 they didnt announce anything new to bootup windows.
maybe is possible that in the future, direct storage will also work with sata ssd and pcie 3?
Then all gen of IO can also benefit by that.

How is that cheaper to buy separately?
I just bought samsung T7 1TB during 9.9 at RM490.81, you get 3 years warranty and AES encryption build in.
and I saw some horror story on orico brand, especially their HDD dock are all HDD graveyard. It will kill the HDD in a short period of time due to unstable voltage.
For SSD enclosure, I'm not sure, but I will avoid this brand at all cost.

the 2tb was around 7xx during the time of posting and overall it's about 8xx for a 2tb + 10gbps enclosure, cheaper compared to what was posted and that you have to order it from US instead of malaysia

im currently using an orico ssd enclosure, albeit for sata ssd and im not finding any issues so far

if you check this link here:
https://shopee.com.my/TRANSCEND-MTE220S-PCI...f6-7d056d85b6ad

the price is rm710 for 2tb, rm399 for 1tb, add the enclosure and it's RM470 in total, still cheaper than what you paid for during promo period.

i cited orico as one of the option since it's the first result i get, but you can consider ugreen also if you're worried with orico

it's here for RM67:
https://shopee.com.my/UGREEN-M.2-NVMe-SSD-E...66-c286fc91b71d

i use ugreen's as well and havent had any issues yet

i chose mte220s for the ssd cause it has high tbw and it's pretty cheap too  tongue.gif

plus all these enclosures arent gonna make your nvme's run at full transfer speed anyway so you can opt for cheaper nvme perhaps?
*
like total RM20 difference with no local warranty, no AES encryption, if anything goes wrong sending back could cost more. I don't think worth the risk.
the samsung T7 2tb also 800+ during promo.
and we are talking about samsung here they are world leading nand manufacturer, they didn't source their nand chip from 3rd party.
and they didn't use low grade nand chip on their SSD.
So overall, imo saving just a little didn't make sense to buy from oversea.

that was kinda the point i was making to @lurker when he was eyeing on the seagate 2tb from bhphotovideo, you could source locally for cheaper since it's from shopee and you have warranty coverage as well.

and it's not just RM20 difference but quite huge difference as well in terms of price difference.

user posted image

granted, if your suggestion for going with T7 2tb for 8xx vs the option i mentioned earlier which is 710 + 67 = 777, that's still more than RM20 difference anyways.

and about the bolded part, you'd be surprised what samsung has done in the past, like downgrading chips without informing the public. actually every manufacturer that I can think of is guilty of this as well.

even in the current market on nvme/ssd's alone, samsung doesnt have the best prices for their SSDs and they're not #1 either in terms of performance. basically, there's no incentive to be buying samsung ssd's at this point when:

1. they're not the top performer
2. their products are expensive in general.

I'm curious tho, could you post the link to where the T7 is on sale for cheap?
*
Ah ok, I misunderstood, I tot you suggesting him to buy from oversea.

Yea, corporate is not your friend, do your own research when buying any product.
They will do whatever it takes to maximize their profit. Just be careful.

I get it from Shopee Samsung official, I've compared the price locally. Surprisingly, samsung is the cheapest.
The 2nd shop I found cheapest is PCByte, but their warranty only supplier warranty.
I also compared with others USB 3.2 SSD, like WD My passport SSD, Sandisk Extreme E30, samsung T7 still the cheapest.
During 9.9 they gave RM100 voucher off for all their SSDs, if you are eyeing to get one, I highly recommend wait until 10.10 or 11.11
I think you can get a very good deal during the event, just keep an eye on them, add it into cart and check during that time.

Hi all, can recommend any nvme sata drive that is just to use as a portable drive? those dramless should be fine right? since it is bottlenecked by USB speed.
*
why not just get a portable SSD instead of getting separately? You need sata drive and ssd enclosure.
No AES encryption, and the overall size is bulky
And the SSD enclosure are all build differently, unstable voltage could shorten the drive lifespan.

my buffalo rugged one 500gb already 10years still alive and kicking lol.

f*ck yeah!, My 500GB buffalo still kicking, that drive is just so tough maybe because it's Made in Japan.
local distributor no longer carry buffalo, you can only get it from oversea like Jpn, you still can find buffalo hard drive from lazada.
They ship from japan, but the price is higher compare to WD and Seagate.

Last year I did created a post about buffalo hdd.

cos i see drive like kingston nv2 is so cheap at amazon sg lol, 1tb rm360 only.. then enclosure maybe 100 like tat? i think nvme one not too bulky also. seems like the samsung t7 those quite big size like normal portable hdd size? which one actually is recommended? i see sandisk one quite rugged, just that the cable need owes bring lol.

yeah right? the buffalo hdd really good lol. too bad they are too expensive to buy now la.

T7 is not thumb drive size, but it's small, the size is your ATM card.
Just keep an eye during the event. I got mine at 9.9 at RM490.8 for 1TB.
1. USB 3.2 gen2
2. 3 years warranty
3. AES encryption.
4. By looking at the spec, I believe it has better cooling.

I compared both buying enclosure and others brand like WD and Sandisk, T7 is still the cheapest.

may I know how is your usage for the T7?
since cloud storage is convenient if you hv internet and negates most external storage usage.
Also, will the AES encryption give noticeable slow down for your usage?

I'm looking for one mainly for memory card photo backup outdoors with ipad
*
For my use case, I don't need to access the files via cloud. I'm mainly storing all my call log, because I record all my meetings and store it.
I only transfer to the SSD like every few months for backup.
and I hate to pay subscription fee to any services. If I really need a bigger storage, I will consider NAS in the future.
I didn't turn on AES as in for now. Because is not sensitive data that I want to keep it private.

T7 doesn't work for iOS. Currently, only work for PC, Android and Mac.
I'm not sure if they will support it in the future, but I think very unlikely.
Btw, another good thing about T7 is Samsung provide firmware update when they release new version.

I just found out you can take it apart, both ends are just covered with stickers.
In case you are wondering what's inside.

Ah ok, i saw the sandisk got 1 budget version e30 1tb around 380, this fits my budget tho. Just as backup drive i dont really think i need 1GB/s read write tho.
*
Too bad, samsung official store no longer carry T5, else I think it fits your budget.
By comparing WD and Sandisk, samsung offers better build and best cooling.
don't forget, heat will also shorten the drive lifespan. icon_idea.gif

If the Samsung nvme inside my main rig is a person, i would have been murdered by it long time ago  tongue.gif

External SSD will do just fine, they're no performance-oriented storage and will not generate much heat compared to internal nvme ssd.

Does ur ssd has heat sink on it? I believe most of the SSDs are pretty hot, correct me if im wrong. As long as ur case has good airflow i think is fine.
I donno what is the RMA rate for SSD, but i think their SSD are pretty solid. The only problem is price, they are just exp.

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Sep 21 2022, 06:17 PM)
yeah but i prefer sandisk size haha and the rugged exterior, because i tends to just throw my hdd inside my laptop bag  sweat.gif

thats y i also surprise my buffalo hdd can survive, i bring offshore with me and go anywhere, the hdd is for work tho. bought it because it has the mil spec and tough.
*
Sandisk ssd is just m.2, they just glue it on the controller board. Not sure if u can upgrade the storage.
I've checked youtube review. Their temperature is not that good, I think that is because their plastic housing, same thing happens for WD, samsung is still the coolest.
Size wise comparing wd and sandisk, samsung is the smallest and they are the only one with metal build. You feel solid holding in your hand.
Do share if you can find any brand that is better than samsung by comparing:
1. Price
2. Speed
3. Build
4. Size
5. Temperature
6. Security
7. Warranty

HI guys, anyone bought Samsung SSD from Lotus's Lazada before? Is it under Samsung Malaysia warranty?

I just bought a 980 NVME, trying to register the product but can't.
*
I've reach to laz lotus store for clarification, looks like all their SSD cheapest in laz and even cheaper than shopee

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Oct 25 2025, 09:58 PM)
If you go to a Lotus hypermart do you see them selling Sammie SSD? I really doubt its sold by Lotus themselves, perhaps a shop inside Lotus which could mean its not official reseller. Why not ask Sammie helpdesk to verify if Lotus is an official reseller.
*
from all the reviews, it seems really legit. Really tempted to get one of the samsung ssd
The Samsung T7 SSD 1TB will price at RM270, 2TB RM577 RM470 during 11.11. Which is cheapest among all sellers.

Yea in the physical store, I don't see them selling phones, tablets and computer, maybe sales too low, I don't go lotus's store to buy computer also, only grocery. biggrin.gif
Maybe they are transitioning become like the "BestBuy" online, so gadgets only exclusive sold online. icon_idea.gif

And Laz got buyer protection also, just record a video when unboxing as a proof, I think will be fine.
