with lazada bonus RM9 for every 99, it seems that I can now get the CS3040 2TB for RM884  rclxm9.gif

are there any known reliability issues with the E16 controller that this drive uses?
*
Something very fishy though. Those with local manufacturers warranty is like RM16xx.
Those with local supplier warranty go from rm12xx to rm9xx for 2 TB.

Fuh, hand itchy ready. 2TB PCIE 4.0 for rm1109 is killer.
Tempted to get 2 pieces. Use it to replace my SX8200...
I'm surprised price is going down even with this news circulating:

WD SN850 may not be compatible when connected to LGA 1700 chipset slots. Direct CPU M.2 slot works great. It stutters when connected to my Z690 chipset M.2 slot. I would advise avoiding this SSD until they fix it if you plan to use it on chipset M.2 slot on LGA 1700 boards.

This sounds vaguely similar to the Ryzen bug:
https://www.pcgamer.com/wd-is-fixing-a-bug-...0-motherboards/

But it was patched out eventually.

EDIT:
*hijacking my own post here because I don't want to get banned for doubleposting*

I managed to get 2x pieces 2TB PNY CS3140. Performance is not as advertised but it's still okay-ish.
Real world transfer maxes out at 3GB/s and it does get low if the files are larger than 60GB.
Top one is connected to CPU M2 slot while the bottom one is the mainboard chipset M2 slot.

Now the only issue I face is, I need a proper enclosure for my SX8200. I got myself the UGREEN enclosure and even with the pre-applied thermal pad, write speed gets throttled to like 30MB/s.
Anyone tried these 2 before?

I am actually fine with those benchmarks (for that value), since I just use it for gaming. It is recreating a itch now for me to buy the CS3140 to accompany my CS3040 I bought sometime back. Why la poison me.

Do you do large file transfers often?
*
Recently I've been playing alot of DIRT2, and I now picked up a habit of recording my replays. I've collected about 100GB worth of DIRT2 replays over the past month. So yeah I do the occasional transfer between drives. Probably once or twice a week.

I notice the real world tranfer hovers between 2GB/s and 3GB/s.
I assume this is something due to transfer overhead or the fact that I'm using WIN10.

I think the move from GEN3/CS3040 to CS3140 is not worth it. However if you are coming from a mechanical drive or SSD, then yeah. Especialy with price of RM1109 for 2TB.

Does you CS3040 come with a chunky heat spreader pre-applied?

Replays? Are you a youtuber?

Thinking of it as an addition. Swap out my main CPU M.2. slot to CS3140, and relegate the CS3040 to PCI-E. This will be troublesome though as my Windows etc. is all on my old drive. Then again, I realised this is overkill from a space perspective, I still have my old PC fully intact with space still available, and here I am adding another 2 TB NVME while my main is only 1.5 TB used.

Nope it does not come with a heatsink. I actually prefer not to have one if I pull the trigger for CS3140 since I will be using my motherboard M.2 heatsinks instead (hoping to save some pennies).
*
Haha, not a youtuber. Just recording for the heck of it.

Well the CS3140, comes pre-installed with the heat sink.
Removing it will be messy:

I need some help putting a ssd inside a usb casing and playing games from there is ok or putting nvme in nvme usb casing better?

*
I tried putting my 2TB SX8200 NVME into one UGREEN enclosure. Results were atrocious because there was no proper cooling element. It slowed it down to like 18MB/s.
Even if you get one with proper thermal pad and built in fan, speed will max out at 600MB/s (USB3.2 Gen 1) or 1000MB/s(USB3.2 Gen 2).

Just some sharing, my jonsbo heatsink arrived, installed it on my kc3000 1tb and the temp diff is day and night, before install, it was like 40+c at idle temp, 64-70c when i ran crystalmark. now it was like 30c idle, then 35c during read test, 44c during write test.

really make a diff.

Is this the one with RGB?

Got heatsink.

I think it's safe to say 5.0 will come with water cooling block.🤭🤭

Keep a lookout for fires in storage media factories in the next few months because NAND price is coming down:

we are from different schools of thought. in terms of capacity, imo it's better to go for the max that you can afford:
1. ssds from good brands are proven to be working fine for a long time;
2. we will never make full use of nvme ssd performance if they are for home use only. you can just reuse them in new systems in the future;
3. when they are retired, you can still use them as portable storage. ssd-based portable storage is relatively safer.

i have many 240gb range of sata-based ssds, including that cheapo oem ssd from fujitsu from many years ago. they are all converted to portable storage. however, they are too small for me these days.
*
Also make sure the portable storage container has proper cooling features. I used one from UGREEN and it heated up PCI3.0 within minutes causing to generate IO errors.

If you go to a Lotus hypermart do you see them selling Sammie SSD? I really doubt its sold by Lotus themselves, perhaps a shop inside Lotus which could mean its not official reseller. Why not ask Sammie helpdesk to verify if Lotus is an official reseller.

Can still return the druve since it's LAZMALL, right?
