Lol if u compare Normal TV with LCD TV u see a lot of difference!
And i also doubt that the MGS will be in Full 1080p!!! So far only Sony itself has come out with game in that resolution!

It is up to you loh! 24" if use in small space it is nice enough! If you use it in the Living Room and your living room is very big then go for 32" and above! It will also be easier to view text word in a distance!
*
i think the thread starter wants to buy a LCD rather thn a CRT monitor.. so lets all jus skip CRT cause we all know its far less superior to LCDs..
MGS4 is to be out on 720p..
and yea really depends on your space tat u think it might fit best.. yr study table? or living room? or hall way? really boils down on distance u would sit frm the LCD.
pretty much like sitting in the theater..... would u hv a BIG screen but sit so near.. yr eye can only focus on one area at a time? or far away where u can see all of it..

ALLOT of people i see post pics where thy sit so close to a 32" tv... it really blinds thm.. u'd only strain yr eyes. jus to LOOK CLOSER at the details of the pic..

sounds like u're more of a fan boy thn he is. sweat.gif it really depends. most people would go for 720p rather thn 1080i due the 60fps and 30fps difference.

firstly motion!!!
QUOTE
Motion is different issue. If you want to see motion clearly, then live action 720p is what looks best, compared to 1080i. Here's why: the information content of 720p is about the same as 1080i, though what it lacks in spatial resolution, it makes up for in temporal resolution (because the picture is at 1/60th of a second, not 1/30th x 2.) On 1080i, this would show as flickered or jagged edges on bright horizontal objects (like in the background of a camera pan.)

2nd pricing and difference only noticeable with a HUGE screen
QUOTE
Tests of visual acuity to determine the resolution required of a television transmission system by the BBC's J.O. Drewery and R. Salmon determined that at 9 feet, a 50 inch screen at 720p's resolution will give you all the resolution you can see! At 9 feet, a 56 incher needs 1080i to avoid seeing the pixel structure. If you sit farther or closer, you may need more resolution.

u mostly only go beyond 720p if.. u hv 40" and above. other thn tat its really no point... unless u're rich.. thn its a diff story. reason being the prices of LCD these days leaps frm jus a few inches away. talking about 32" to a 40" inch jump...

and dude.. LCD tv and Monitor these days.. no diff reason being u can hook HDMI and DVI altogether.. it depends on many other factors not jus general.. u've got TN + film, IPS, MVA, PVA.. 8-bit 6-bit coloring, refresh period, contrast, brightness.. plenty of things so u cant generalize that LCD tv are better thn monitors..
there is a converter or adapter u know too u know.. for both plugs
mostly 24" and above comes with HDMI ready being the twice the price jump frm 22" where for the 24" the 1080p cut off point comes in..

so it really boils down to how much are u willing to spend.. and where u aiming at.. if u wanna go 22" but below 32" thn i suggest a good computer LCD.. if u wanna hit 32" and above.. pls get a home entertainment LCD

@ ruztynail,

thanx for the explanation, I appreciate that. It's true that we can't simply generalize LCD tv and monitor, I actually haven't decide whether it's supposed to be on my table or living room. I was thinking what actually worth more but then I think with my lifestyle, putting it on the table next to laptop will be more effective for me.

So I guess it will be 24incher with HDMI ready or whatever it calls. I dont really understand HDMI, it sounds like it supports 1080i and 1080p, that is what I assume, just correct me if im wrong.

and oh, is it possible to connect both console and computer with the same monitor? I know I did that while ago with ps2 and my desktop, with some adapter I forgot what it's called. If it's possible, that will be sweet. For that reason, most probably I'll go for monitor, fer sho.

Yup you can connect both your console with your pc with the same lcd monitor. That's what I do. PS3 + X360 + PC with my 22" Dell. My X360 and PC are using KVM switch to the VGA input meanwhile my PS3 is using HDMI - DVI cable to the DVI input of the lcd monitor.

Yeah, I do mostly everything on the computer so the lcd monitor would be the obvious choice for 360 gaming as well. LCD TV is great, but it's just a tad bit too big for me. Perhaps when I have a bigger hall one day, I'll be able to use the LCD TV.

But right now since I'm always around the computer, the lcd monitor will have to do smile.gif 24" is just fine.

I see, thanks for the input tot31 and refnulf. So that will be added to one more reason to get a monitor. But one last thing, how do u switch which one (ps3, PC, or 360) on the screen like is there any switch or sumthing maybe a software, coz I personally couldn't figure out how it will works technically. I know there must be a way, just that I have no clue how.

Like tot31 said, KVM switches enable a person to use up to 4 systems on 1 monitor. You just keep switching from one to another

Plus the monitors these days have DVI and VGA connection. So you can either use the DVI for PC and VGA for the 360. So no need a KVM switch. On the monitor, you'll have a switch to change from digital to analog input.

Hi guys, i just want to say this has been a very useful thread to me. I was initially going to purchase a 32 inch HD ready LCD TV (sony or samsung), but after reading some of your posts especially the one by Ruztynail, i have to say i am quite concerned that i may be going the wrong direction.

If room space and distance of tv isn't an issue for me, and my budget is from RM2,000 to RM5,000, from what i read is it correct for me to conclude that lets say a 22"-24" LCD monitor will have the same HD picture quality as a 32inch LCD TV? I guess what i mean is will the games and movies i watch be clearer and more detailed and smooth on the 32" LCD tv or LCD monitor? or same?

My usage requirements are mostly for my Xbox360 and DVD movies. Currently i'm using my old tv and i'm really struggling to enjoy myself due to low visual quality and some games i can't even read the font/words in the game! (e.g. The darkness).

I always had the impression that the 32inch lcd tv would have better quality visuals for games and dvds than the lcd monitor, however i think i must be wrong after reading the above posts. If that is the case, i think i can save quite alot of money just by purchasing a lcd monitor! So anyone that can confirm this for me, i would be greatly appreciative.

I must apologize for my ignorance in this matter, and i thank anyone in advance for taking your time to help me out.

Unless ur going above 40incher, there's no point of going 1080p coz u will never notice the difference visually. If ur using it in small space like ur table, better to have a monitor. There is a informative link of some dude's siggy here, try to click that and read.

oh, I am the thread starter, so what I learn is unless we are going 40incher and above, forget 1080p. In fact I am still waiting for a couple informative replies about my concern.

if xbox and DVD movie - i suggest you to get a 32in 720p LCD. get one with good response time. Branded ones should all be under RM3000 now. as for DVD, you would need a HDMI upconvert DVD player to enjoy hidef anyway. Get a 1080p ONLY if you are into HD DVD or Blu-ray. if not dont waste your money wink.gif

Me no FAN boy of any console! I am the "gotta catch em all" type!!!

Is true that monitor do have some disadvantage! But in the end it falls to the main purpose of wat the person want to used it for, if from the start he just want to used it for gamin + pc usage + place it in the room, then monitor will sure be a much better choices.

By the way if u plug it with a PC that have TV tuner u can still get to watch TV! And for DVD quality yup it is a bit worse if u use a PC to run the movie, but if u use players like PS3 or others to play it, it is still the same as using TV (based on my experience on watching DVD9 movie using PS3 with LCD monitor).

I dont need TV tuner here, I can always watch TV on the living room (tho there are tons of HD channels, I dont have HDTV so I dont even care). Even if I do want, I can always log into Joost and watch online, as it streams like a butter.

Cheap gaming display, LCD monitor is ideal. If you want something at FULL HD, then yes. A 40" LCD tv which supports it. The new samsungs, sharps, etc.

If not, just get a 24" LCD monitor. Does pretty much everything for gaming.

I thot now there are bunch LCDs come with 1080p, such from ViewSonic, LG etc. The price tag might be heavy tho, but still it's available for now.

HD channels could be "necessary" depending on the content. Like I definitely would enjoy the new season Prison Break live in HD and probably sports like what they called "football", but some of them arent really matter to me. Oh movie channels like HBOs would be nice too on hi-def.

So back to the topic, I have seen some brands introduce their 1080p lines of monitor, what do u guys think? Good, no good?
