As I am opting for the best screen for my upcoming ps3 or Halo 3 version of 360,

what would be the best options or choice that I can have for USD 400 price range? Make USD 500 tops. Is it possible to have 1080p within that price range?

Here is my research from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.as...411&name=LCD-TV

guys,

please enlighten me. Thank you.

p/s: I would prefer recommendation with explaination. Fanboyism comments are allowed of coz, but it doesn't change the fact and won't help me at all.

if not wrong USD400 - 500 will be around RM1500-1750+- i would said you will best get urself a 1080i or 720p TV onli.

If u really want to u can go get LCD monitor! That would be possible to reach 1080p but u wont see much different from the screen! Either ur budget can go up to USD3000++ or else u have no chance to get a LCD TV tat supports 1080p!!!

Added on August 20, 2007, 12:44 pmAnd what would be the differences? I mean between TV and normal monitor? will it be the output and input? Is that it?

or LCD monitor cant be used as TV? Enlighten me please.

TS, are you a student living in a dorm/apartment? size and portability is very important then? in the US, got lots of brands, models and discounted items. i think forums like neogaf or avsforums has recommendations thread.

i'm using cheapo benq-fp94vw.html

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...k=benq%2bfp94vw

for a desktop monitor, 19" is quite than enough for me smile.gif

I see, anything else should I be concerned with? Like HDMI and 1080p? I dont really get the differences, or they are just the same?

I think I shud go for monitor then? 19"? 21"? 23"?

like i said in the LCD thread. (why is everyone creatinf another)..
1080p only noticeable whn u hit 40 inch and above.. 24 inch lcd mostly support 1080p already. 22 inch and below 720p. pc LCD monitors 22 inch and below u would need a dvi - hdmi converter. with tat range u hv. 720p would be good enuff for u

First of all, models that are available in the US may not be offered in other regions, hence that's why location is important for us to know. It doesn't help if we can't relate to the brands/shops/models.

Secondly as has been said, 1080p will only be noticeable at 40" and above. Anything smaller and you won't see a difference. Monitors are good for gaming as has been explained, however you'll need a tv tuner card if you want to receive tv signals. Benq and dell are popular here, but you may want to see other makes.

Thanks for the input guys,

yeah that's why I gave the newegg link, that implies the place I presumed. As I don't think we want to buy from newegg if we are currently in Malaysia.

and lowyat in the US will be bestbuy, but they have limited choices and options. So newegg covers the US basically.

About 1080p LCD, so shud I go with 24" and higher? or I shud just stick with 720p?

It is up to u! If u saw my blog u should know tat 1080p on a monitor will only let u see smaller and more detail text or word. Besides that it is the same!!! How big is ur room anyway? If very small then go cheap for those 22" LCD screen or smaller!

I actually did read that. Hmm is it really the same? I play my fren's 360 on LCD TV and normal TV yet I can see the differences. I was thinking 24" 1080p but the prices are slightly higher than my budget. I think I will have to wait for some months for that, as there is no rush for me to get a ps3, since the exclusive and my favorite games are not out yet till like next year (MGS 4, GTA bla bla). But Halo 3 looks so tempting especially with that ugly 360 Halo 3 limited edition version. We'll see what happen, but right now I am more towards ps3.

Those 2 LCD cost me roughly 10k. Dad gave me 12k to buy LCD tv's

So, I took 10k to buy tv n 2k to buy ps3

ya lo...

@derred,
of course you can see the differences... normal TV only support 480i...
if you play games that having small wording display you have difficulties to read it....
I play on TV set b4... but now using normal CRT 19"...
quite good already... wide screen is better la of course...
what can i say.... hmmm...
you won be sitting there for Xbox360 gaming for 3 hours on a computer chair isn't it?
getting LCD TV so that you can sit further only...
but for me i sit and sometime spraw on my bed to play...
i don mind that my screen is a bit small...
so it is your choice to top up ur budget or live with small screen...

shoot, then I'll wait for few for months, I want LCD TVs but those are too damn expensive. If MGS 4 is out by the time I have the money, then I'll go for monitor then.

So any best suggestion for monitor? 24"? consider decision will be few months from now.

aiyo - will the LCD be used for computer too or just gaming?

if for computer and gaming - the 24in better than FULL HD monitors should be perfect for you. Get one with HDMI connector - such as the BENQ 24in monitor - works for gaming, computer and dvd too tongue.gif

Lol if u compare Normal TV with LCD TV u see a lot of difference!
And i also doubt that the MGS will be in Full 1080p!!! So far only Sony itself has come out with game in that resolution!

It is up to you loh! 24" if use in small space it is nice enough! If you use it in the Living Room and your living room is very big then go for 32" and above! It will also be easier to view text word in a distance!
