Wah so their method of opening the screen to change battery is not Apple normal SOP? Like that very scary if you ask me though.
*
No. Same method but they said actually changing battery for iPhone 12 onward is very risky because will break the screen. Normal dealers like Switch, IT World and etc. will not compensate your screen if they break it. Well, I don’t know how true is that la. laugh.gif

I am so curious because I also plan on changing battery eventually. I called switch and they tell me they will cover if anything breaks. RM380 for the whole thing.
*
Thanks for the information! Time to go to Switch to change mine.

Good experience?
Mine so far so good with Switch.
changed my ip7 battery during the rm129 promo, and recently replaced my faulty FaceID camera under warranty.

What should I do if I want to send my phone for battery replacement? I don't have any other spare phone, and all my data is inside; I cannot clear everything before handing it over to them, and again, my data may be compromised when my phone is not with me. laugh.gif Man, I'm so stressed over this. laugh.gif

Is there anywhere I can see them doing it in front of me? tongue.gif

hey sis, if you do it via AASP like machines or Switch, they can complete the battery replacement process in about 2 to 3 hours (also depends on luck if they are busy), so try on a non PH weekday if can...if can be done within few hours then you don't need a spare phone... but when comes to data, they require you to wipe off the phone before handing over to them (their policy), or maybe they will do it in front of you.. so you need to back up your phone and restore it back later..

they won't do it in front of you though, it will be behind the counter.. even third party repair shop won't do it in front of you, it'll be near the counter which is out of your vision..

I really don't want to wipe off the date because restore gonna take time. cry.gif
I guess I have to put this on hold..

Yea ikr, it’s a hassle when it comes to backing up, alternatively you can pay for one month iCloud storage boost, just to get it done, then cancel it after replacing the battery and restore…..11.90/200gb of storage….or 39.90/2TB…usually I go with the 11.90 coz 200gb is more than enough for my backup…iCloud backup and restore is by far the simplest, you can do it before head to bed and it’ll be ready by next morning.
*
Sounds like a good idea. This is my first iPhone and gonna be the first time to do backup and restore as well. May I know if use iCloud, everything will be intact? Even the apps settings like logins?

yes, the restore process will give you back exactly what you had before you wipe off and back up (including all your settings, and text messages, even call logs etc), maybe 99% as some apps still require you to enter password (I could be wrong tho coz if not mistaken, if you select back up encrypted files, u can even skip the re-entering password stage as well), but whatever it is, you will get back almost the same as before you wipe, it’s very handy and easy, and the best part is, you don’t even need to plug it into any comps or wires, everything is via cloud..
*
Awesome. I just contacted the Switch near my house and they said if I can send it before noon, I could get it on the same day, latest by evening. However, like you said I will need to wipe off the data.

I already made an appointment to change my battery on the 16th. I am required to back up my phone before sending it in and will use the iCloud method as suggested by dikae, but suddenly something struck my mind; what about my eSIM profile? Will it be restored too? I had an issue when I first got my eSIM from Digi, and I plan to do it again only when I get a new iPhone. laugh.gif I hope I can back up and restore my eSIM profile. Appreciate your advice.

can't help you sis, I don't know much about esim stuffs, I believe it should be restored though, or perhaps check with the centers and see what they say?
*
Yeah, looks like I will need to take such a risk and get ready to rush to Digi Centre if it fails. Maybe I won't have mobile signal for one day. sweat.gif

Yea esims are quite tricky, maybe can arrange for batt replacement at the center where there's a Digi nearby?
*
Yeah, I just checked there is one nearby but restore won't be that fast right? Sorry first time. blush.gif

restore via iCloud is actually quite fast if you're on a fast WiFi.. how big are your files? I restore the other day on 500mb isp, took me about an hour+ for 150gb iirc.. or could be faster.. didn't time it but should be around that biggrin.gif
*
I haven't upgraded to the iCloud plan yet, I guess almost the same size as yours. I guess I cannot restore while I'm at the mall, let's see how it goes. I will update later. biggrin.gif

restoring over mobile data will take a long time for 100gb+.. better do it when you're home with a stable WiFi smile.gif

I’m happy to report that I managed to get the battery changed at Switch Seremban 2. My eSIM is also intact because I got to choose to keep my eSIM before deletion. Phone took a while (30-40 minutes) to restore to get into the main screen, it’s still restoring now as I’m typing here.

However, the experience of changing this battery wasn’t exactly smooth. The young lady who attended to my phone at first refused my battery replacement service because it hasn’t dropped below 80? She said must be at least 79%. Mine was at 81% and she said Apple won’t allow because it still didn’t appear the notice to ask me to get it replaced. sweat.gif I told her my phone has been stuck at 81% for months and in order to drop to 79% I probably need another one year. shakehead.gif

Then, I told her I am going for a vacation soon so I need to ensure it’s working well and I don’t need to bring a power bank wherever I go. She reluctantly asked me to run the diagnostic test and said if my phone failed the test then she will proceed with the battery replacement.

While waiting for the test to complete, he asked his another colleague to attend to me instead. Maybe I was really difficult to deal with but I swear I haven’t raised my voice yet. laugh.gif This young guy is superb and he immediately agreed to my request and helped me with everything. Unfortunately, my screen protector was also removed before can send in for fixing. I collected my phone 3 hours later. thumbup.gif

thanks for the update, glad everything is done despite the hiccup.

afaik, you can send in for batt replacement whenever u want, at any %, so long you pay the price for it... the 79% is only for free battery replacement under their warranty within 1 year..

sucks tho they remove the SP.. good thing to note for future smile.gif
*
Yeah, I told her why others can change but not me? Mine is no longer under warranty and I’m paying for it. I failed to understand this part. laugh.gif

lol yea that's like rejecting a paying customer, sad for the boss.. or maybe she heard it wrongly thought you wanted to claim free batt replacement lol. but glad that everything else was smooth, iCloud backup and restore works like a charm right? biggrin.gif
*
She knew my phone was out of warranty from the beginning. I told her many times, I’m not claiming any warranty and I will pay for it. I guess she’s just new.

Ya, it does because everything is there but I still have 16.5GB data to be restored and my WhatsApp is part of it. laugh.gif I hope no urgent messages. sweat.gif

Very funny. I never change my battery at below 80% and never had any problem. Like she is following strict warranty protocol. Your screen protector needs to be removed cause the phone is open using a suction cup on the screen. Looks like you won't be on the market for the 14 pro max then.

Would be for the better too cause I am betting a redesign next year. Have been this way since the iPhone 6.
*
Yeah, you guessed it right! Are you getting the 14PM this round?

I changed my battery on Malaysia Day and it is the best decision so far. The phone looks like new and I'm going to continue using it until 15 comes next year.

It is RM 380 for 12PM at Switch.

The battery drains like crazy after 16.1.1, is it me alone?
