Even if its cheap, but there's no ultrawide camera.

That's where they cut cost.

Top up a bit get Note 9s.

I think this is to target those really really on a budget.

Why does Xiaomi succumb to all the craving on large battery and making their phone wider and thicker which is terrible to hold in one hand.

Why oh why ?!

We want something like Mi A3 size phone with 4500mah maximum sad.gif sad.gif

Because it is the trend now for smartphone industry.

Just look at SAMSUNG, oppo, realme and vivo, they all give large battery and bigger screen to their upcoming phones.

yeah, was considerate this poco m3(499) and redmi note 8(399)
after much research both camera are equally bad, maybe poco m3 is more worthy for the 6000mah battery and usf2.1

Of course. 499 is a great price for a phone with UFS 2.1, 4GB RAM+64GB ROM, dual crystal clear speakers and 18W charging.

Redmi 9A do not have Second Space and Call Recorder, meanwhile Dual App feature is semi-hidden.

I am thinking to sell my Redmi 9A and buy Poco M3, did Poco M3 come with Dual App, Second Space, and Call Recorder?

Will Poco release the source code for Poco M3?

Redmi 9 is using eMMC, 13MP main camera, 5020mAh battery while POCO M3 is using UFS 2.1/2.2, 48MP main camera and 6000mAh battery.

M3 definitely not a rebranding of any Redmi phones.

Hypothesis:

This M3 is the successor to the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1/M2 ... Asus has granted the "M3" moniker to Poco team as Asus has surrendered to the war of entry level "M"ighty "M"assive battery challenge...

The color yellow is also being granted access by the RealMe team as they also gave up on the same war...

In the end, Xiaomi has surpassed Apple in the global market share. Next victim after Who-R-We is See-How-Me if Donald "J"oker Trump still wanna save Timmy...

what you use with NFC?

I see mostly mat salleh use it for cashless payment. Just tap their phone at cashier's counter, done. Cos in reviews the mat salleh more particular abt NFC since they use it regularly.

In Malaysia...hmmm, I used NFC before to transfer data between my old to new phone. Much faster than bluetooth.
Other than that, dont think our tech system that advanced yet.

most likely is samsung phone with samsung pay, other phone dun have support for local bank so much. with poco x3 nfc, no way to do that as well, so that's not really a good reason.

what app you use to transfer file with nfc with xiaomi phone? i never transfer files to ppl before.

It look like a rebranding

I think it is much more similar to China version Redmi Note 9 4G instead of Redmi 9. China version Redmi Note 9 4G get ultra wide camera instead of marco camera, more storage, more RAM and slightly different design compared to Poco M3.

The mat salleh was reviewing Nokia & Realme phones.

App? Why need use app? Just open NFC button for both phones, let the phones touch each other to transfer. It was Nokia to Asus.
This was years ago when NFC was still new.

other than file transfer, there's no practical use of the nfc. and 1 in a million time i need use file transfer. furthermore the receiver phone need to have nfc as well.

of coz all reviewer will say nfc can use for creditcard but it's up to the phone itself. like xiaomi, what malaysia credit card they support lol. so it's not a valid reason to just say hey m3 no nfc better pick x3.

but both is under 1k phone la, if pick for primary phone of coz just go for x3, if just use as a secondary phone / backup phone, m3 is cheap and good.

If I am not mistaken, it means the size/maximum power of the speaker.

The bigger of the value, the sound will be louder.

You are right. Other brands do not disclose this information except Xiaomi only.

Folks, I want to get a unit of this phone for one of my children. Would of course like to get it at RM499 if and when 12.12 offers it.

If anyone is aware of where it can be obtained from, a heads up would be greatly appreciated. TQ.

Played with the Poco M3 at low yat plaza. I'm no expert, but the ips display seems poor in terms of viewing angles. Had bumped up brightness to max, sunlight mode off. My old redmi 5+, and current rm599 offerings from realme and vivo all seemed to have better display quality than the M3.

No yellow units available. 4/64 model only comes in black.

I’ve used both Realme 6 and Poco X3 NFC. My brief thoughts: -

Design and Build: The Poco X3 NFC has better build quality coz the frames are made of aluminium and not plastic. On the other hand, the Poco is much heavier too compared to the Realme but that’s also because it has a bigger battery, so I guess it’s a bit of a trade off.

Performance: Roughly equal. I didn’t encounter any stutters or lags with either phones but I don’t do any heavy lifting with my phones such as gaming or highly resource intensive stuffs. Both perform equally well for me. One thing to note though is that the Realme tend to heat up easier under heavier load (e.g. a 90-minute video call).

Software: Poco launcher on MIUI is an acquired taste. Plenty of features and bloat so it might not be to everyone’s liking. There are also numerous ads baked into system apps but these can be removed. There are quite a number of YouTube tutorials on how to remove the bloatware on Mi phones, I find them to be most helpful. Once you gotten rid of those then the phone just flies. That said though, MIUI 12 is leaps and bounds better than MIUI 11 and is really not as bad as some folks make it out to be, just some effort is needed to tweak it accordingly. Realme UI on the other hand is really clean and nifty with not much bloatware out of the box. They’ve taken a few cues from stock Android and the overall experience is very pleasing. So my pick here would be the Realme.

Display: Both have average LCD displays with the Poco on 120hz and Realme on 90hz refresh rates. In my day to day usage I find scrolling on the Realme 6 to be smoother, and lesser shadows on the edges which is an inherent issue with LCDs. Colour wise, both are about equal and so to with brightness.

Battery Life: Poco wins here hands down but with the caveat that you remove some of the Mi apps that you don’t use, otherwise you’d notice strange battery drain on the Poco and you don’t get that on the Realme. Charging speed isn’t a consideration for me but the Realme charges way faster than the Poco.

Cameras: Both very average, OK to good performance in good lighting but not so much in low light. I have no preference here on one over the other.

Speakers: The Poco X3 NFC has stereo speakers so it definitely wins here in terms of loudness, but the sound quality is just so so. Vocals especially don’t sound clear enough for me, but the Realme 6 is no better with it’s single firing bottom speaker.

GPS and Connectivity : The Mediatek G90T in the Realme shines here. Based on where I work, live and play (and that’s mostly confined to the Klang area during the MCO) the Realme 6 has better signal strength, faster and more accurate GPS signal.

I have no experience with the Redmi Note 9S though but I don’t expect the experience to be vastly different than the experience on the Poco, so yeah, pick the one that works for you smile.gif

Agreed on the point around 5:00-5:40. This phone basically lags in almost every aspects, even compared to some models like Realme C15 which has the same price tag but inferior processor.

Being using the phone for 2 days btw.

GPS and Connectivity : The Mediatek G90T in the Poco shines here. Based on where I work, live and play (and that’s mostly confined to the Klang area during the MCO) the Realme 6 has better signal strength, faster and more accurate GPS signal.

Thanks a bundle, my friend. Great info and tremendous help.

I am actually looking to buy for my niece. It’s more for her online school studies. Yeah, given the specs of these phones I do not expect vast disparity.

Thanks for the in-depth insight. Much appreciated. Cheers.

Redmi 5 plus got 84% of NTSC colour gamut, so it can display more colours and will look more vibrant.

Not agree with that.

I am using Redmi 9A with 2GB RAM, but when I did the same things in the video, my Redmi 9A can respond faster than his one.

So I strongly believe that his review phone has something wrong already.

Wow thanks do that info!
I googled. Poco M3 and Redmi 9 have only 70% NTSC color gamut (and lower max brightness than the redmi 5+). No wonder my eyes were protesting biggrin.gif

would u make the camera comparision in between Redmi 9 & Poco M3 , doesnt need in a video format , just testing and feedback here should be enough icon_question.gif

Battery 5k & 6k is good , every thing start at 5k considered a good backup power .

Btw , nice review on the videos icon_idea.gif btw u could pm the TS and ask to put the link of the videos at the front page if u dont mind devil.gif

I get it , the redmi 9 laggy at aslphat coz of the eMMC 5.1 storage slower than the UFS 2.0 , no idea if the patch could resolve this , perhaps .

Nope, I have the phone with me, being using for a week or so, basically it's not the fault of the phone but rather customisation on its launcher. Sluggish everywhere, the same situation with MKBHD's unit. It's a shame tbh but those who have the budget, go for X3 seriously.

hi bro, thank you so much for the support and suggestion. I will pm TS see whether he allows or not tongue.gif

the cameras for both phones actually similar in performance. just that redmi 9 has ultra wide lens. poco m3 has night mode

5000 and 6000 mah is consider powerful already for xiaomi...especially when their OS is great for power savings

actually poco M3 has ufs 2.1 or 2.2 depending on the configuration tongue.gif

If you’re adventurous + can accept dated model (out of software supports) and pitiful sub 3500mAh battery, your best bet is Mi Mix2s sideloaded with GCAM.

Though like others suggested, Poco X3 is the more complete and all round package.

Barely

But Note5 is pretty much obsolete already. This cheapo M3 have much more up to date specs, particularly battery and screen estate.

Camera wise, M3 just fall into the average performer group. You need to go higher segment if your bias is onto photography performance.

hope you can improve your future phone reviews by adding these info:
- gyro?
- test gps
- ambient light sensor for auto screen adjust?
- any ads in the OS?

you may think these features are obvious but they are actually not on budget phones.

drag and drop works, but still no app dock, so if i swipe to other screen, it will not remain there at the bottom

update:
factory resetted it and now can drag to the app dock. must be something I did during the initial setup, lol 😂
thanks for the help guys

Rm599 launch date price
poco m3 from last year is Rm500 but comes with a bigger battery  hmm.gif
comparison here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaIDAjbon2c
if you are on tight budget, then poco m3. if you can afford more and you don't mind a slightly worse battery then get the new poco m3 pro 5g for rm100 more. it also comes with a newer android 11, whereas with poco m3 you'll have to wait by end of this year for the android 11 update.

to summarize, everything about the poco m3 pro 5g is nice when compared to poco m3 except
- smaller battery
- no stereo speaker
- cost Rm100 more. will cost even more after the early bird promo price.

The only selling point is that it's the cheapest 5G phone in the market, but does the market really need a 5G phone at this point of time?

Planning to get the m3 on the 6th.

How's the performance so far after using it for a few months? Any lags?

last i heard in regards to 5g adoption in Malaysia
https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/no-concre...531-p57wn4.html
personally i think huawei is dangerous to national sovereignty.... malaysia accused countries like australia for being  short sighted for being overly cautious. but it seems to be the opposite  hmm.gif

just recently they also invaded malaysia airspace. do friendly nations do this?  shakehead.gif

anyhow... 4g is not going anywhere at least for the next decade

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...h-amon/1973843#
but anyway if you put 5g aside, the poco m3 pro 5g will have the latest android 11 right away, whereas the poco m3 is still on android 10  hmm.gif

https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYear...s=2920&sWLANs=3
narzo 30 vs poco m3 5g pro, seems the poco wins, because the poco has 5g and the narzo doesn't and it cost less.
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...&idPhone2=10857
poco m3 was also compared to a narzo 30a, both can be bought for RM500. the narzo has a better cpu for gaming, but the poco has the better screen resolution and gorila glass, although the narzo has a higher brightness.

Ya, Mi phones are still the best bang for buck as far as the hardware specs to price ratio is concerned.

hows the os like?

i'm using a realme narzo30a. After debloating it somewhat, it's manageable. but a full debloat seems like you would need to root which is something i can't do  sad.gif

so hows things over with the Poco m3 that uses the Xiaomi OS?  hmm.gif  is it easier to debloat? or is it harder?

and is the OS better than realme?
*
I've not used Realme OS before so I can't really compare them. For MIUI/POCO, the 3rd party bloatware can be removed by simply uninstalling them. There are other bloatware from Xiaomi such as the video app and tools that can't be uninstalled but can be hidden (can be removed through rooting).

Lastly, there are also advertisements/recommendations, some of which can be disabled and some can't. For example, the music app will display ads that cannot be disabled. Overall, I think it is fairly straight forward to debloat. As for the ads, after disabling most of them, I only see them when I install apps and when I listen to music using the included music app.

To be honest, if you're getting it as a spare phone, then by all means.
But if you have a little more budget say RM799 would really recommend going for the Realme 8 5G.
Whether or not you need the 5G, the performance is much better than even the M3 Pro.
And also for Realme, you can debloat just like Poco.
