Thanks mate. I did in fact write to Xiaomi and they sent me a link with the 12.12 offer. However, I am now looking at other phones ie. the Poco X3 NFC, Redmi Note 9S and Realme 6. Perhaps you have some insight on these that you can share?
I’ve used both Realme 6 and Poco X3 NFC. My brief thoughts: -
Design and Build: The Poco X3 NFC has better build quality coz the frames are made of aluminium and not plastic. On the other hand, the Poco is much heavier too compared to the Realme but that’s also because it has a bigger battery, so I guess it’s a bit of a trade off.
Performance: Roughly equal. I didn’t encounter any stutters or lags with either phones but I don’t do any heavy lifting with my phones such as gaming or highly resource intensive stuffs. Both perform equally well for me. One thing to note though is that the Realme tend to heat up easier under heavier load (e.g. a 90-minute video call).
Software: Poco launcher on MIUI is an acquired taste. Plenty of features and bloat so it might not be to everyone’s liking. There are also numerous ads baked into system apps but these can be removed. There are quite a number of YouTube tutorials on how to remove the bloatware on Mi phones, I find them to be most helpful. Once you gotten rid of those then the phone just flies. That said though, MIUI 12 is leaps and bounds better than MIUI 11 and is really not as bad as some folks make it out to be, just some effort is needed to tweak it accordingly. Realme UI on the other hand is really clean and nifty with not much bloatware out of the box. They’ve taken a few cues from stock Android and the overall experience is very pleasing. So my pick here would be the Realme.
Display: Both have average LCD displays with the Poco on 120hz and Realme on 90hz refresh rates. In my day to day usage I find scrolling on the Realme 6 to be smoother, and lesser shadows on the edges which is an inherent issue with LCDs. Colour wise, both are about equal and so to with brightness.
Battery Life: Poco wins here hands down but with the caveat that you remove some of the Mi apps that you don’t use, otherwise you’d notice strange battery drain on the Poco and you don’t get that on the Realme. Charging speed isn’t a consideration for me but the Realme charges way faster than the Poco.
Cameras: Both very average, OK to good performance in good lighting but not so much in low light. I have no preference here on one over the other.
Speakers: The Poco X3 NFC has stereo speakers so it definitely wins here in terms of loudness, but the sound quality is just so so. Vocals especially don’t sound clear enough for me, but the Realme 6 is no better with it’s single firing bottom speaker.
GPS and Connectivity : The Mediatek G90T in the Realme shines here. Based on where I work, live and play (and that’s mostly confined to the Klang area during the MCO) the Realme 6 has better signal strength, faster and more accurate GPS signal.
I have no experience with the Redmi Note 9S though but I don’t expect the experience to be vastly different than the experience on the Poco, so yeah, pick the one that works for you
