there're many company's that emphasize on time precision espeically japanese companies. Cannot late even 1 minute. Boss may not scold on the spot, but the bonus will be affected automatically. Even hr also cannot help since it's computed automatically, and linked to the attendance system.

It goes 2-ways. I'm guessing your boss was not like that in the beginning. He probably trusted you and you betrayed his trust over and over again.

I don't think that it is fair to blame the boss when you come late to work. Cannot leave house earlier and be on time?

i hope as the world moves forward, liberal thinking becomes the norm. All these asian mentality micromanagement is preventing creativity and risk taking. My boss is an American, and we focus on output more than menial crap like these, and us as employees take responsibility to deliver

How many times are you late to work in a calender year? Your reason for tardiness is irrelevant. Is it chronic enough for your boss to question you for clocking in 1 min late?

fully agree. from my observation, usually all these micro manage boss is due to their own incompetence in not being able to monitor performance based on output as well, similar concept to how old people always say they cant adapt to this and that, its basically them not being able to measure performance other than by monitoring attendance. To me its just about putting in the time and patience to understand something so that you can do it better.

i dont really accept the reason that old people cant learn or adapt as well (i always hear it with my very own 2 parents), in western country old grandpa also can adapt and learn new things, heck i saw got grandpa review movies on youtube, got grandma 80+ become twitch streamer. its all about the mentality of learning and understanding, which typical asian mentality doesnt teach. typical asian mentality is to follow the path of others, and dont break out of comfort zone

That's already chronic if you late 2-3 times a month, every month. Your failure to comply is another issue because I'm sure your boss already told you to improve. If you are not willing to make the necessary sacrifice (leave for work earlier) then I do not think the company should sacrifice moral among all employees because keeping you on board is not fair to others who made the sacrifice to be on time. You have a very lenient boss. Once your tardiness pattern has been identified a show cause letter and then warning letter should've been issued to you. From there your employment is in nobody's but your own hand.

Also as a reminder, tardiness excuse is moot when the underlying problem is self discipline. Or lack thereof
