Big Sur 11.2.1? I see various changelogs there’s no mention of Bluetooth fix

Are you using an external monitor together with the Macbook Pro?

Currently I know that the Windows Daemon server which runs when the MX Master 3 tends to spike (see the activity monitor). What I have done is increasing the polling rate of the mouse to max and also remove the feature where it magnifies when you shake the mouse (basically to find where the cursor is). That reduced the stuttering a bit.

Guys ,
For the 16GB spec , I found out that most of the authorized dealers don’t carry that spec.
Especially SQ, Machine , Harvey Norman.

This spec need to be specially customized only on apple website?

QUOTE(Ashroft98 @ Feb 24 2021, 12:31 AM)
Yeah, all Apple Authorised Resellers only sell the base models 8/256 and 8/512. If you need more RAM > 8 or Storage > 512, must purchase and customise from Apple website (and ship from China).

But I’ve seen posts who originally bought from Apple Store and sell it back locally here too. But they are not authorised resellers.
*
You can order it via a Switch Store or even any of the local resellers. They will CTO for you but the waiting period is quite long. Usually, people go through this route in order to enjoy some benefits through their local resellers such as usage of certain credit cards to gain cashback or a 0% instalment fee.

Recently ran a battery life test with the Macbook Pro M1 (base model 8Gb and 256Gb SSD) and was super surprised with the results. This was a test of a daily workday for me at home using the standard office-related applications.

Hi Mavik.

Great write-up!

Am contemplating an MBP M1 with either 8GB or 16GB now.

Read that you also ordered the MBA with 16GB as well.

Any thoughts on the differences ?

Thanks in advance !

Between both, based on the type of usage I use it for, I really can't tell the difference between both. I guess that is because I don't do video editing on those machines. Just mostly office work, browsing, watching media and light photo editing using Lightroom.

My new daily driver for the past few days. ☺️

And honestly, I’ve been very pleased with the experience.
- The responsiveness! Everything is like pre-cached into the Unified Memory Architecture and just flies.
- I’ve never noticeably heard the fans spinning and it’s super cool to the touch. Perfect for lap usage.
- Was concerned about Bluetooth connectivity issues but I have been using my AirPods Max with it and the connection seems to be pretty solid so far.
- Battery life is class-leading for sure. I don’t even need to bring my charger out when I’m out for the whole day.

Shout out to Mavik for his splendid real world review, as it really helped me decide on my purchase.

Always happy to help! The other day I had to go into the office from 1pm-7pm and I didn't even bring my charger. The laptop just ran through the entire time! Amazing

rumors said the current 13 inch mbp will be discontinued and replaced with 14 inch.. not sure how true is that
*
This rumour has been going on for a year already but it totally makes sense.
Pro Models maintain 14" and 16"
Consumer models 13" for the Macbook Air

Respect that you are still using the 2012 MBP! My 2012 Mac Mini and 2011 MBA all now in cold storage haha.

What is the reason you guys got the MBP instead of MPA?

I'm currently using MBP provided by company. I wanna buy one myself, I cant decide between MBA or MBP. MBA seems good enough already.
*
I was in your exact same shoes, I have an MBP M1 provided by the company but personally, I went and purchased the MBA M1. The laptop isn't for heavy use, just mostly web surfing, home office work, and minor photo editing. This is also because I have a PC desktop at home to basically do the heavy workloads (if I ever decide to do some video editing). I liked that the MBA was cheaper and also quieter but I upgraded it to 16Gb of unified memory and 512Gb of storage space.

Thinking of changing my 2016 Macbook Pro (the model before touch bar introduction).

Is it advisable to change now or better to wait for the new M2 processors?
*
If it isn't that urgent, with so many rumours swirling around for a new Macbook Pro, I think it would be worth a shot to wait for it.

Was thinking so too. Hopefully there’ll be some major design change.

Mine is before the touchbar models but even those look old and outdated now.
*
Yeah, the design hasn't really changed much over the years. The only hope that the new ones would have more ports and also a slightly newer design. But still with the current pandemic going on and supply chain being disrupted here and there, the wait might be longer.

just asking, if someone sells me a macbook pro 13inch from 2010 for rm500, is it ok to get it?
*
If you have a use for it, why not (e.g. use it for homeschooling or online class for kids, etc..etc..). Otherwise, a lot of the things for that model doesn't work particularly well for example you would need to find a lot of dated dongles for external monitors and more.

If you are keen on it, what are the specs? Does it have an SSD installed on it already with maxed out RAM?

Hi guys, I have a noob question. Planning to buy a Macbook Pro and Logic for my brother (the current M1 or the upcoming 14, I'm not sure yet). Since I'm the one buying, will he be able to use Logic under his Apple ID?

Sorry ya, I haven't tried buying from Apple Store before.
*
He needs to purchase it with his Apple ID in the App store to tie the software to his Apple ID.

Alternatively since he is your brother, you can park him under the same family and you can share applications with them as well.

base models might come with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd, and a possible miniLED with 120hz..
if it happens then it'll solve our problem deciding/debating the 8gb or 16gb biggrin.gif
*
Maybe the next debate would be 16Gb or 32Gb RAM instead? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hi, plan to grab my 1st MacBook/mini. Got some stupid questions on MacOS

1. Do You all install antivirus? (There are two opinions, some said need some said need not)

2. What antivirus you use?

3. What casing you use for MacBook? Any side effect for MacBook? Like overheat, crack screen or etc

4. How long your MacBook battery can survive? What is the cost for battery replacement?

Thank you
*
1) Yes, Symantec - company wide licenses
2) Answered above
3) No casing for my Macbook Pro but I use a casing for my MBA M1. No side effects so far and my MBA is mostly used for productivity tasks so never faced real overheating
4) My MBP M1 lasted me 9 hours for a full day of office work

Quick check, any noticeable difference in future proofing by upgrading to a 16gb unified memory for the 13 incher with 512gb?  I am researching and not much tangible afterthoughts
*
Yes, only if you are running heavier workloads such as photo editing using large image file sizes and video editing usually with 4K. If 1080p, I can't tell the difference between my M1 8Gb ram or my other M1 with 16Gb ram.

Placed order for a Macbook Pro 13, but I'm confused. Says delivers Nov 12, but arrives in Nov 17-19. Which one is the actual arrival date to my doorstep?
It's shipping from China via DHL if it helps.

At the end of the day, based on past experiences, the dates tend to change. Since it is coming from China, they build in some buffers in case of any issues especially when it comes to shipping.

This is for those who are looking to use any M1 related macbooks for Microsoft Office usage.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/...c0-2bb4c9a36834

This is also to answer my own question. (the article gets updated from time to time, and as of posting, it said it was updated October 5th). There may be more updates from time to time. Hope that this can be highlighted when users and potential users ask "can this run Microsoft Office natively on M1".
*
I have been using my MBP M1 at the office for 7 months already. Never faced any issues regarding MS Office at all.

Nice, the Macbook Pro M1 base spec itself is a very good machine. I just received mine from my new company as well via courier today.

Im now in search for a sleeve.. lasttime bought Thule for my MBA

It wasn't much of a difference for me because in my last company I was using a MBP M1 as well. So pretty much the same exact hardware, just a different company. Most of the time these machines are pretty much locked hence I can't do too much with them.
