Hi everyone, I’m considering to get a Mac mini for light home usage mostly for media consumption and possibly as a plex server. But I read a lot of complaints on incompatible monitors, so is there a way to confirm if my current monitor will work with it?

Hello!

Anyone managed to use more than two displays? I’m seriously considering getting one, but my current setup runs three monitors; 34” 2k, 27” 2k, and a drawing tablet FHD. Pretty sure I can run both monitors natively via the TB port (both has a TB port each, with DP and HDMI) since it runs fine on my 2016 MBP.

The issue lies with the drawing tablet. I’ve been reading around, and it seems like I’d need to drop about a grand (possibly more) to get docks/adapters to have more than two screens.

So…question is, anyone managed to get it running more than two without breaking the bank?

Last month I bought a new SSD, Adata XPG S70 Blade 1TB (PCIe Gen4). Put it into an Acasis Thunderbolt external case (PCIe Gen3.) Can detect and format but it unmounts after a few seconds. Not sure why. Gen4 should be backwards compatible with Gen3. Just a heads up in case anyone is considering this SSD.

So far, I've been using an Adata SX8200 Pro 2TB (PCIe Gen3) in another Acasis ext TB case((PCIe Gen3) with no probs.

The S70 Blade is working fine in my Win 11 PC.

Hi all. Just wondering it is best to take the mac mini now or should I wait for sept/oct, just in case the refresh model will be coming out? but according to internet, the mac mini m2 wont happen until 2023 at least.

Appreciate your comments biggrin.gif

What do you plan on using the Mac Mini for? Office productivity or heavy workloads?

Sounds like what the M1 would be able to achieve fairly easily. Right now its all whether you have the patience to wait or you need it immediately

I kind of hope we might see a Mac Mini with the M2 chip as well. Seems like a no-brainer for Apple to just upgrade it with the M2 chip.

That is because similarly like the M1 MBA, it is passive cooling hence they used the same trick to cool the M2 MBA. For the Mac Mini, it has active cooling so it shouldn't have any issues at all.

Hi all,

Since I (am still) waiting for the mac mini to be launched with the M2, any current M1 user can advise on any USB port hubs they use? Or is the default number of ports offered sufficient for your usage?

First of all, what is your photo editing and video editing workflow? What software do you use, what format do you shoot in and how many files are you constantly editing at once? This would really provide a better view of things. For example, if you are a heavy FCP user then yes, the M1 does make full use of it. If you use Adobe Premier or Da Vinci, it may not necessarily be the most powerful option out there but it does the job well.

16GB would be sufficient. I am ono 8GB but it's hitting the limit. Other apps needed to close to run photoshop smoothly. I do simple editing on final cut as well but recently been using Luma Fusion to edit video faster since I'm using it on iPad Air as well. No issue and works flawlessly.
