QUOTE(phas3r @ Nov 10 2020, 03:46 PM) These 2 guys taught me so much about guitar for the past 1 year! I think Justin is better for learning fundamentals, while Marty is great for learning songs. If TS prefer local, there is Az Samad, who is a famous Malaysian guitarist that graduated from Berklee, but his materials are in Malay: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT6H...41W1RCzSj7v38Ml |

QUOTE(imnotabot @ Nov 10 2020, 03:15 PM) Cheaper no-name brand is risky though. Will the guitar be setup properly out of the box? If you buy Squier/Epiphone/Yamaha from reputable shop, you can ask them to do quality check and setup the guitar properly before shipping it to you. or can get a cort, But I do agree that you should generally avoid the cheapest model. At least get a Squier Affinity, not Bullet. on a totally unrelated note, OP do skip interfaces, they are a tad bit complicated for beginners |

word of advice. yes, if you like electric, start with electric, not acoustic, the playing style and learning totally diff. i started with acoustic (not good anyway) but its hard for me to pick up electric style. so i enjoy playing acoustic style but dreaming of electric. another point of electric, understand what you kind of sound you like. its it rock (more fat sound) or blue-ish jazzy (thinner sound). for rock, try google for guitars styled after les paul (with humbucker "fat" pickup), for blue-ish jazz, google for guitar style like stratocaster (with single coil "thin" pickup). QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Nov 10 2020, 05:02 PM) i cant tell you except the feel and the style of playing.yes basic skill is the same though. iike strumming. its more of an advice for people that dont want to spend alot of time and money, and just want to have fun. instead of having both acoustic and electric. but if you spend more time and effort, and some money. its not big of an issue i suppose. |

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Nov 10 2020, 05:02 PM) From my 1 year of experience learning both (still beginner), one thing that stands out the most is muting. When playing through amp, especially with overdrive or distortion, vibrating open strings will make your playing sound shitty, so you will need to learn string muting. The best thing that ever happened to me is finally being able to play RHCP Can't Stop riff cleanly This post has been edited by imnotabot: Nov 10 2020, 05:10 PM |

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Nov 10 2020, 05:02 PM) Usually n most of time electric guitar much suitable for rock kind of sound n music, for play power chord. U know, those jeng jeng jeje jeng jeng sound. Acoustic more for non power chord play, more sentimental, harmonic, finger plucking and alot of finger style from original to modify chords. Of cos u can play power chord on acoustic guitar but not as nice as using full electric guitar. U also can play normal chord like major n minor on full electric guitar but not as beautiful sound as on acoustic guitar sound. |

U consider lucky can learn guitar wif the help of youtube now a day. My time, me n frens only using guitar chord book, listen to radio n cassette. Keep on play rewind play rewind the cassette to make sure we get the right note n sound. Those who poor cant afford to buy original cassette usually just buy blank cassette n dubbing from frens who hav original cassette. And we watch vcd concert on tat old day, if camera point at guitarist we see their finger at which fred they start play, so we know how to start n then have to figure ourself how to find the next. Usually it wun be far from where it starts. This post has been edited by Revoz: Nov 10 2020, 05:22 PM cempedaklife liked this post

i also liked a software called guitar-pro. last time i found pirated one. but its hard to find song with that format.
its good for learning though as obviously cant read music tab, even though simplified for guitar with numbers, and dont know the sign for vibrator, or slide up and down. its good to see the tab and at the same time hear the sound it make on the software. |

QUOTE(jbcoder @ Nov 10 2020, 01:14 PM) Electric guitar can be easy or very hard. The key is choose which one you like. Don't listen to bad advice to start with acoustic first because you'll lose interest very fast if that's not your interests. The acoustic->electric route are outdated and bad advice. You can jump straight to electric. The hardest part about electric guitar is not chords or power chords. it's finger independence, accuracy and muting (in addition to speed of course) QUOTE(cempedaklife @ Nov 10 2020, 04:38 PM) word of advice. As per their words, if you interested in electric guitar. jump straight to electric guitar. I've learned classical guitar, acoustic guitar and electric guitar. All 3 emphasize on different techniques. learning 1 may not give you THAT much of an advantage as you would like it to be. Classical / Acoustic share more common techniques than with electric.yes, if you like electric, start with electric, not acoustic, the playing style and learning totally diff. i started with acoustic (not good anyway) but its hard for me to pick up electric style. so i enjoy playing acoustic style but dreaming of electric. another point of electric, understand what you kind of sound you like. its it rock (more fat sound) or blue-ish jazzy (thinner sound). for rock, try google for guitars styled after les paul (with humbucker "fat" pickup), for blue-ish jazz, google for guitar style like stratocaster (with single coil "thin" pickup). on another hand, never buy the cheapest budget guitar available. Spend a bit more, and you can get a lot different experience out of it. the cheapest one tends to have rather poor build quality, namely uneven frets or very high action which makes it really difficult for beginner to get accustom to. Then they quit guitar, saying it is difficult. Rmb the law of diminishing return. Your best value for buck often lies somewhere in the middle range. if you are particular on the tone, go to the shop, ask them play a few pieces for you, and see which tone you like. i think for a beginner, is hard to do sufficient research to know what you will want out of electric guitar (since there are so many variants), so just choose 1 design that appeals to you (if you have no idea on the tone that you like) |
