word of advice.
yes, if you like electric, start with electric, not acoustic, the playing style and learning totally diff.

i started with acoustic (not good anyway) but its hard for me to pick up electric style. so i enjoy playing acoustic style but dreaming of electric.

another point of electric, understand what you kind of sound you like. its it rock (more fat sound) or blue-ish jazzy (thinner sound).

for rock, try google for guitars styled after les paul (with humbucker "fat" pickup), for blue-ish jazz, google for guitar style like stratocaster (with single coil "thin" pickup).

i cant tell you except the feel and the style of playing.
yes basic skill is the same though. iike strumming.

its more of an advice for people that dont want to spend alot of time and money, and just want to have fun.
instead of having both acoustic and electric.

but if you spend more time and effort, and some money. its not big of an issue i suppose.

i also liked a software called guitar-pro. last time i found pirated one. but its hard to find song with that format.

its good for learning though as obviously cant read music tab, even though simplified for guitar with numbers, and dont know the sign for vibrator, or slide up and down.

its good to see the tab and at the same time hear the sound it make on the software.

U consider lucky can learn guitar wif the help of youtube now a day. My time, me n frens only using guitar chord book, listen to radio n cassette. Keep on play rewind play rewind the cassette to make sure we get the right note n sound. Those who poor cant afford to buy original cassette usually just buy blank cassette n dubbing from frens who hav original cassette.
