I recently crashed my bike.
My dealer says the insurance claim process is 7 months.
Is that normal?

Also, I have asked if I can fix certain parts myself first and ride it back first. (Pay and Claim later)
When it is time to fix it fully, I will bring it back to them.
They say can.
BUT, in between accident again cannot claim already.
What do you guys think?

Total Damage +- RM10K
Exhaust Muffler
Fork
T fork
Swing arm
Disc
Rim
Handle & Controls (I will fix these first at least can drive around my neighborhood)

Better you buy used kapcai instead of riding the same bike while waiting for the claim.

Yea, agreed with buying a used kapcai if you need it for your daily commute.

I am also in the midst of sorting out a claim. If you don't mind, try calling and asking different workshop/3S centre to compare the lead time.
I was told the main wait was not due to the claim process (1 month, standard even for cars), the wait is mainly due to parts. They will bring in ori parts, depending on your bike, will drag your repair time. This can take up to 2-3 months. Then repair will take 2 weeks to 3 months depending on your repair shop's capacity. I called one in wangsa and he told me there were a lot in queue, so even if the parts arrive, it will be another 3 months before they work on my bike.

For parts, normal maintenance parts are easily sourced, but for main components like forks, even CKD units will need to wait for shipment from origin country as they don't keep spares here iirc.

You can only repair once the evaluator comes and assess your bike damage.

Better leave it be and go through the process. Usually, insurance companies got SLA leh. Seven months dont make sense. Unless there is element of fraud and suspicion.

Ouch, what happened? Hope you are ok.
Insurance claim is a grey process for outsiders.
1 month to 6 months durations are heard before.
Some even will let you use second hand parts.

Suggest to follow the system and let the process take on its course. If got claim, still need to serve it etc.

wow the repair is half the price of the bike. that's nasty. hope you are alright man. but you posting here and riding around your taman probably means you are ok and that is the most important thing.

anyways, i concur with the what the others have said, its painful to wait, but better not risk it.

I do have a car and bike is a weekend thing.
So if I do bring it back, it is literary going to sit at my parking.
At least I can once a while rev a bit in parking lot. Haha.

There is no visible damage to most of the parts but the shop says you going to claim anyway just claim la.

Only visible damage is below.
1. Brake Disc, Lever & Master Cylinder
2. Muffler
3. Handle bar bengkok.

still in the midst of waiting. Coz of CMCO, adjusters are working from home, so technically my insurance part is not done yet.
After that's done its all about waiting for parts. Fitting it won't take too long.
Damage: both rims, headlight, exhaust, windshield.

If the bike going to sit in the parking, might as well leave it at the shop. If you want to rev the engine, record it then you can play it whenever you want to.

Been thru this before with my GSXR.

The insurance claim process doesn't take that long.

It's getting the damn parts that takes a long while, coz have to source, order & import.

To be honest, I can't remember exactly coz that was decades ago ago.

But for sure the adjuster came within a few weeks of filing the claim, then a few weeks later approved.

But the parts had to be brought in via Singapore. That took a long time

Another time I lowsided in Subang, I decided I couldn't be bothered waiting for months... so I advertised on Sing Bike Forum & drove to Singapore to collect used & new parts myself. But yeah... that was before RM went down the shithole (roughly about RM2.2 per SGD1 at the time if I remember correctly... heck I used to ride to Ah Boy's behind Sim Lim every time I needed new tyres), so you can imagine how long ago that was.

Those days Singapore was a haven for used parts because they would scrap their bikes at the end of their COE. Most of us made pilgrimages to Ahboy's, Motoworld etc to buy jackets, helmets etc. The Suzuki parts dealer used to be along Jalan Besar right in front of Sim Lim. And Msian customs were either none the wiser or they couldn't care less.

How times have changed!

Hi guys, how do you claim insurance from the dealer you bought it from? If so, is there any criteria for it to be "claimable"?

I recent skidded off my bike with scratches across my fairings, don't know whether can claim or not. Had experience with cars, not too sure whether it is the same with bikes?
