Here is my tcl 55 qled, viewing angle is good at 60 deg, vibrant qled colors
*
I bought a TCL C716 Qled 55 about two week ago from Shopee (Pahang Seller).

I have noticed that the top of the TV screen is slightly curve when view from the top of the TV (look like a curved TV from few year back) but I am wondering if this is the design of the TV (to lessen the viewing angle issue) or it is manufacturing defect? In fact, The top center of the TV screen is slightly dented inward when view from the side (very close to the TV).

Wonder you can provide screen shot from the top of your TV for me to compare?

Use some kind of leash, tin rope, thicker sewing thread and
tense from side to side bottom.middle and top.
So you will see gap or not.
Any deformation in picture quality, because this?
*
Thanks for the reply. I have used measuring tape to check whether there is a gap and found it fact there is a gap at top center. But I don’t really see any picture distortion at top center.

If your TCL Qled has no such issue, then it might be a manufacturing defect. Not sure this issue will later develop into picture distortion down the road.

Appreciate someone else can confirm theirs’ TCL Qled having the same issue.

That's an obvious dent. Mine are flat across. Is the screen also become uneven?

Yes. Top center dented inward.

I gues that you are on V3xx firmware ,which behave for 4k60 video in YouTube as you described.
To eliminate this, need to update to V606 and above.
Just keep warranty card with you, for safety reason.
*
Warranty card has two sections where owner keep one section and the other section is to be sent to TCL Malaysia within 7 days else warranty will be voided (clearly stated in warranty card).

New owner of C716 reporting in 😀
My previous tv is a 40" FHD dumb tv, so this is mind blowing exp for me.

Just want to ask sifus here.. i tried to play 4k clips from youtube (i searched '4k 60fps') Why sometimes it plays smoothly then it judders? Does it related to my internet? (Using maxis 30MBps fibre).

For warranty do i need to post back the warranty card? Coz i bought it from shopee (the seller from Pahang)
*
Welcome to the club. Have you check the top of the TV whether there is bent like mine?

Oh lord.

This thread couldn't have popped up in my radar at the most... Timing.

So here I am asking the sifys and owners for immediate (ASAP) clarification.

I have posted a thread in this forum about me getting a 65" TV here.

I have finalised with a heavy heart to go for Samsung 65TU8500 (2+3 years warranty) @ RM 4300.

Gonna make purchase in the morning.

Now I came across this thread that puts a dent.

Can someone let me know if I am making the right decision or not.
*
I have moved from LG to TCL. Once you try Android TV that’s no going back...

Your TV look straight! Lucky you.

TCL Service told me the bend/curve on my TV likely due to mishandling by owner... Trying to poiint finger at me... They also said if I complained when first got the TV, they can exchange one for me.

But I never mishandling it. I just put the TV on a bed and installed the TV legs. Then, move the TV to the table top (which just next to the bed) with the help of my wife. I wonder just doing that can cause the TV to bend that way?

However, after much explaining over WhatsApp, they agreed to send technician to my house next week to check.

ok after reading 80% of the discussion here, I am still skeptical. C716 65" is RM4199 like everyone mentioned, I heard many online reviewers say that HDR, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision have little to no effect at such low peak brightness and you have to nit pick to actually see the differences between HDR and DV content so i'm going to disregard those "features". That being said, would all of you still go for C716 or a Sony/LG/Samsung?(Mainly for the brand name reliability)

More specifically,
LG 70" UN7300 at RM3999 (300-350 nits+- brightness, IPS panel with Magic Remote)
Sony 65" X8000H at RM3800 (400-530 nits+- brightness, IPS panel with overall better picture quality than LG)
Samsung 65" TU8000/TU8500 at RM 3800(300 nits+- brightness, VA panel so better contrast ratio than both above)

Based on Rtings.com all 3 brand models above lose to the TCL series 5 but we can't definitively say C715/6 has the same picture quality as series 5.
So with HDR/10+ and Dolby Vision being disregarded (at least to me) would you guys still go for the TLC715/6?
*
I was waiting for Sony 55” X90H for a few months and it was always out of stock. Best price I can find is $3,599. Main reasons are good review of picture quality and was rated top reliability in some US surveys.

Note: My LG got panel problem only after 2 years watching right after warranty period expired. Cost 1k++ to fix and decided to forget about fixing. Nowadays TV start having problems within 2 to 3 years. This is according to TCL technician. You should consider buying extended insurance if you decided to buy expensive TV.

Saw a review on brand reliability and came to conclusion that the higher price you paid, the more reliable the TV. So much for brand reliability... OLED basically top rated in term of reliability (paying top dollar also) regardless of which brand (top end Samsung QLED models included). Simple logic: more money you paid, more QC/QA will be done by the brand.

Main reason I bought TCL QLED 55” is the pricing: RM2,933 + 10% Shopee coins.

TCL Service took back the TV to fix due to slightly bend/curve screen... Hmm... should have bought the Sony instead.

After using Android TV for while, there is no going back to LG... LG/Samsung are just too restrictive like using iPhone. Now that I had jailbroken and saw no reason to be back to jail again...

After spending a couple of days at the factory, the technician there managed to straighten my TV. I think only a TV factory can really done that as I was skeptical they can straighten it. In fact, they really assemble TV there.

This morning they bought my TV back to my house and voila... It is straight and the screen no more dented inward at top center.

I asked what happened and the technician said likely due to mishandling during shipping as there were two straight markings at the box (one marking near top center). Note: The box was not broken and the foams inside were intact. Conclusion: there might be some risk when the TV is not send by their own lorry.

The technician told me his factory provide after sales warranty services to few brands (he mentioned these brands:TCL, Hisense and Skyworth). I asked the technician what TV brand tends to have less problems in general. He said TCL, LG and Panasonic (surprise no Sony and Samsung).

I am just glad my TV is now fixed and will be careful when buying online from seller who use courier service.

I think my 65 inch is also slightly curve on the top. Just received it today. There is a gap when I run a thread from both ends of the tv.

If you use the thread to measure at the bottom across, I believe there is gap as well. I think it’s fine as long as the screen not dented inward.

Your TV screen (polarizer film) dented inward at top? My TV screen was dented inward at top center before it was fixed.

You can also check for any marking on the box like this?

TCL technician told me that it is a frameless design and can easily bend if mishandled.

Hi guys,

I am a newbie here that already purchased same tv as you guys

Last time i have used philips 7374 and sell it to my relatives. One thing i happy about this tv is because of the memc/motion flow features.

i purchase first tcl716 without knowing this features not available (buy first regret later) biggrin.gif but it's okay still can adapt to it.

Just wanted to know, when i play unifitv apps, the display seem not sharp and look to SD quality.

Is it because of the performance of cpu/gpu/ram of the tv causing that behaviour?
I did install hbo go and try to run justice league (the source mention it hd) but the display seem not sharp/optimize.

In case this behaviour cause by the hardward limitation, is it using external box (nvidia shield tv) will make it improve?

Im using unifi 100mbps connect using wifi5ghz (zte) and the router just beside tv ( no interference between tv and router)

Appreciate your input.
*
I have unifi TV and the picture quality is on par with other apps like Tencent, YouTube and etc... Have you updated your firmware?

My setting for Picture Preset is Dynamic. I did notice some Picture Preset settings not working well with Unifi TV.

By the way, my TV firmware is V625.

You are always welcome to busybody 😀
OS is one of the considerations, but I didn't weight it too much on decision making.  I just need plex, youtube, Netflix. & easily hook with android box for android TV, if the Vidda outdated.
Both supported HDR standard seems equal.
Both model got quantum dot , hence my comparison.
How good is U800QF local dimming, I really don't have experience to comment, my best relative conparison is rtings on H9G (assume close to that model)

Colorwise, I believe TV model at this range can be fine tune so some extend. Idk,
Thanks for the input. So if OS & the price different is not a concern, which of these two is you take?
The support & firmware update is why I am considering C716. I only knew got so support & update frequency from your post in this thread.
By any chance, have you come across support site for U800QF?
Btw, to who may concern, I come from 5yo panasonic FHD smart TV with chromecast v2. No HRD, no 4K. So both 2 model above is a huge jump from current position.
I'm audiophile, so TV sound sound quality is not major concern (but welcome addition for lower power consumption) as it is connected to receiver & 5.1 setup.
So im intention is to replace this TV & forget about upgrade urge for another 5years.
*
If I am paying 5K RM, then I will be getting the 65” Sony X90H. Sony X90H is getting rave reviews in USA for picture quality and color accuracy. Also top rated for reliability for mid range TV. Most importantly for me is the Sony TV is powered by Android TV.

Also will get 3 years extended warranty as nowadays TV will start breaking in 2-3 years (my LG TV started having panel issue after 2 years and fixing it cost 1K++). My rule of dump is any TV purchase above 5K should have warranty extended to 5 years (with 3 years extended warranty).

Note: You should not assumed your new TV will always last 5 years as I did.
