so this means you disconnect even before 100% right? I think this is an important aspect of battery longevity.

Ya but i dont really keep track that. I just dont game while charging, or better to say i dont game at all. biggrin.gif

Parts will definitely be available. They still have iPhone 6S batteries available for replacement even now.

High drain activities will affect smaller capacity battery more than higher capacity batteries. I believe that is the reason why the battery health dropped faster on the mini

Oh, alright..

So, DJI (worlds best commercial drone OEM) also uses Lithium batteries for their drones. In these applications we consider it to be absolutely mission critical as a flying drone with a bad battery can crash and harm lives. For DJI drones, you always want the batteries to be charged to the max chemical capacity (for maximum flight time) and maximum longevity (so that your drone dont suffer catastrophic power loss in flight) and I think they have the best research in this field.

DJI has implemented all sorts of self discharge in their batteries, which are aimed at not allowing max storage over long periods. So far over the years I think their latest method is to enforce discharge after 1 day of 100% (4.35V), slowly going down to 50% over a few days (their battery packs have built in discharger). This method was implemented for DJI Mavic Air 2 (2020 model) batteries and so far I've not seen 1 case of battery bloat failure. Some others like self discharge after 10 days or 4 days, I've seen many having bad batteries after even 1 year or less.

I think this can be implemented for phones too. We always plug in overnight and this drip charges the battery at 100% over long periods during sleep. Over time, I can say my phone battery spends more time being fully charged than any other state. And that causes damage to the cells too.

Why is my battery charge stuck at 82% even after turned charging optimization off? weird. this is new unit of 12 mini white. my other 12 mini blue didn't have such issue. I'm using Ugreen 20w charger.

Does shutting down iPhone completely once in a long while ( maybe once every few weeks or months ) really do improve the general performance / animation / apps start up speed etc ? Or it's just a myth and a gimmick that doesn't work ?

Perhaps try with Apple standard charger and see if it improves.

tried with slow 5w and also fast 18w both didn't work.
my iPhone is 12 mini so I'd love to have it close to full battery all the time, to max out usage when i go outside.

fullcharge only happen if i put charger all night. similar to optimized charging turned on. but i already turned it off.

should i reset the phone?

You could try resetting settings. If that doesn't work perhaps Apple service may advise further.

I've never shut down my iPhone (unless a software update forces a restart) but have not really experience any stutters. I will say the trick seems to work on my Android phones though - a restart tends to get apps working better and lessen idle battery drain especially overnight.

Yeah, maybe try a reset first. I suspect if you go to the service centres that is probably the first question they might ask too.

Anyone's iPhone 12 battery percentage is dropping fast?

Mine is 93% after 6 months. I game quite frequent on it so that might be a contributing factor but previously my XS didn't drop so fast.

EDIT: Fast charging will in fact degrade battery, such as using 30W adapters.
*
Fast charging is a factor to battery degradation but not by a sizeable amount. Using a 20w charger , currently I'm at 100% after 7+ months. Bought on November.

I just practice the 30-80% rule and so far it seems to be working . The 'usable' 50% battery is enough to last an entire day for me , so yeah I don't mind it.

Anyways if you don't care just use the battery as intended , 93% after 6 months is still okay and decent. The reason I'm keeping it this way is that i can sell it when i upgrade to the 13PM or wtv the next iteration is.

So the 20W is ok? I use the 20W at my workstation and 30W in my living room.

Wow, upgrading to the next version so soon?

Even 30w should be fine since it'll just fix the charge rate at 20w

This is my first time using an iPhone since the 3gs, wanted to try it out first to see whether I like ios or not. Didn't really want to get the 12 PM since I was afraid I wouldn't like it.

After using it for a while, I absolutely love ios even bought the AW lol. So yeah I want to upgrade to the 13PM as soon as it comes out as I'm done 'testing'.

My iPhone dropped to 98% after 8months.
Thought can maintain 100%. Dropped to 99% first then after 5 days drop another 1%. Mtfk

Aiyo, 98% after 8 months considered very good already la, hahaha...

You can try to backup, factory reset and restore - it could possible go back up to 99% laugh.gif

Yeah, but 30W degraded the battery I think.

I see, so you're using it to 'test'.

Mine is much lower because of gaming.

Ya, the degradation is definitely higher when the battery is exposed to more heat like playing games but still I wouldn't bother too much about battery health. No Android phone shows this stat anyways biggrin.gif

Just enjoy the phone!
