QUOTE(basilpaschal @ Sep 23 2020, 11:52 AM) How much does it cost ? No idea in Malaysia, but here in UK, one of my sold property actually has a nicely furnished attic. During the repair and renovation, the contractor sorta remove the entire roof area to redo the attic so It has a proper 7-8ft space height. Of coz, the restriction in UK buildings also made the construction get delay and delayed. But at the end, we've settled it for around 260k GBP. Sold the house for around 1.15million pounds (bought in auction, 440k, renovate 260k, close to 50 furnitures? Sendiri stay for almost a year there before it was sold. So total expenses is like 800k for that year.)Is it worth it ? What if you are already living in the house ? Do you need to move for them to do their work? It was a nice attic with the gimmick of an extendable window balcony (Which overatted, only good for smokers) Of coz, no complain, coz the 3+1 house is quite comfy after renovation. Straight Living Room to Back garden design too, so it look damn spacious. If I found my photos, I'll try to share. |

My friend's father did
Cover up pipes, lay down flooring and walling, turned into 4th bedroom (big family) and play room for kids Obviously did a lot of work in order to make it vermin free. However it is very hot and air conditioning is expensive. This is because the attic serves as an insulator for the rest of the house. It gets extremely hot up there, hotter than the rest of the house. The kids didn't mind but then they're young. Malaysian houses tend to be badly insulated as we don't live in 4 season country where loss of heat means death... |

To make a room, I think not worth it. Very hot. For storage for me ok la. Last 10 years 30-40K, extending your roof higher. But for storage, don't need to extend the roof. This post has been edited by Noryume: Sep 23 2020, 10:00 PM nabs2205 liked this post

I am about to convert my very tall middle room into 2 floors of small rooms for full utilization
1F is the 1st room (attic) and GF is the 2nd room. I am aware of the extreme hotness up there hence i will pasang AC up there and also ceiling fan. |

I also toy with this idea of converting the whole attic for an additional 24x50ft space but using solar panels for a big portion of roof.
In PJ this size of landed space(1200 sqft) would cost 500k. https://inhabitat.com/solar-panel-roof-tiles/ This post has been edited by MGM: Sep 24 2020, 08:32 AM |

If you convert to storage, then it will get full in no time with stuff that you don;t even look for Why not just call the company. You can Goolgle. I remember found several quite some time ago. |

Convert attic to usage room difficult as there is no natural air intake. Become compartment as storeroom is fine.
But you can convert the airway to a room. This is the part at the middle of highest floor where the ceiling is usually a floor higher. Most Msia house is design with airway. Depend on finishing, you can build it around RM8k-RM15k. |

For a storage room, yes. For bedroom, i guess you can only sleep on the night since it will be very hot on the day.
But if the attic is open spaces, no door and renovated wall partition, then the heat is bearable. |

If staircase can source from china then your cost cheaper la. xD haha.. Most people make it as storage area, as its super hot as many /k mentioned here... Family house has converted the attic into a store room. Did a second ceiling to contain the heat, with extra insulation. And also added the spinning exhaust thing to release the trapped heat. After that not bad. Not too hot even under afternoon sun. End up that room is half store room, and half my dad listening room. He add 1 AC up there for when he is there. He also added rockwool insulation to the attic floor so that he can listen at higher volume without disturbing the ppl in the room downstair. L@vinITzon3 liked this post

Hey there! I actually just finished up converting my attic into a bedroom and I absolutely love it! It was a lot of work but so worth it in the end. I started by insulating the entire space and then putting up drywall. I also had to install a new window to bring in more natural light.

You're not alone if you're considering converting your attic into a livable space. Many homeowners are drawn to a cozy attic retreat or a spacious room for guests.

Is it viable to rebuild the roof to maximise the floor space of the attic, n then install rooftop solar panels to absorb the afternoon heat n to prevent rooftop break in?

air is a good thermal insulator, practically the "attic" we have now is the layer of thermal insulator that gives you comfort in the house during the blazing heat in the afternoon.
i am not expert but i think if the same concept applies to the roof tiles, the attic can make a living place. |

'attic' here, are you guys referring to the center zone (high point) of the pitch roof?
