yes, its oversupplied now.
but the demand is there. you gotta look for places that are not yet filled with people. i know some friends making good money by opening up their services in the interior/ulu parts of malaysia. what is valuable is your license to practice. after that, its up to your initiative already

QUOTE(raquinz @ Sep 22 2020, 11:21 AM) It's not that we have enough. It is because the govt don't have the money to employ them.. It's because the government doesn;t want to tax those 1% that hold the 99% wealth. Instead they tax the 99% that holds the 1% wealth.

Simple logic, no matter rich or poor people gonna grab every available chance they have to prolong their life but not so for engineering. QUOTE(hksgmy @ Sep 22 2020, 07:59 AM) The options for graduates from local private and some public universities are limited - Singapore recognises only UKM and UM, and only since 2007. Twinning degrees eg as offered by IMU are not recognised. SOURCENo it's not. I have a schoolmate working as a registered clinical psychiatrist in Singapore who graduated from a twinning medical programme. The local partner school for that programme is Penang Medical College.

Perhaps he came over with a specialty (eg the MRCPsych) - the basic degree from a twinning program is not registrable according to the SMC website, but that will not come into play if one has a post graduate medical degree from a recognized college.

I think that explains it. He does have an MMed from NUS and MRCPsych from the UK.

QUOTE(hksgmy @ Sep 22 2020, 12:29 PM) Yes, that's the explanation. Once you have your higher qualification, your basic degree doesn't become an issue anymore. So the trick is to get a private basic MBBS and then get a post graduate qualification from either UM or UKM before coming to Singapore. Another friend of mine did that, minus the part of coming to Singapore. This post has been edited by blackie19: Sep 22 2020, 12:33 PM

Locum rates can vary depending on where one locums and what experience or specialty one is in. For example, a consultant cardiologist standing in for a primary doctor on leave is expected to command a far higher rate than a medical officer locuming in a GP practice.

Recognition of the basic MBBS is different from recognition of specialty degrees.

The govt should build more public hospitals as we have no lack of doctors. Unfortunately the govt seems to think that private hospitals can share the load. As their fees go up every year they will reach a point where they are unaffordable to the middle class even with insurance. Then load sharing will be illusory. We may reach the situation in India where public hospitals are grossly inadequate and private hospitals are grossly unaffordable.
